Hello everyone! I am TygoVe, and this is a guide on how to play Varus, the Arrow of Retribution. This is my second guide on this website. I am an ADC main mostly playing Jhin and Aphelios, but Varus is also amongst my most played champions, and it is the champion who got me into playing ADC. This guide is mostly meant for people who are new to Varus, however anyone should feel free to read it. I am not a perfect writer nor am I a perfect player, so if any of you notice any mistakes ranging from typos to suboptimal builds, please tell me in the comments.

Why should you play Varus

Lethality vs on-hit

Abilities

Passive - Living Vengeance

Varus's passive is actually very simple, but also very useful. When Varus kills a minion, you gain a slight bit of attack speed. When you gain a kill or an assist, Varus gains a lot of attack speed and basically becomes a machine gun. This can be useful in a great amount of ways, mostly for his on-hit build but also for his lethality build. When playing lethality Varus you will use this mostly to get your W stacks quicker on an enemy champion, so your E and Q will do more damage. When playing on-hit it will just give you even more attack speed, which is the main strength of this build. A way you can apply this passive is to always kill a minion in lane before you start a trade or fight, the small difference this makes can often be the deciding factor for whether you get a kill or not.

Q - Piercing Arrow

This ability is Varus's bread and butter, especially for the lethality build. The ability is simply an arrow Varus releases after channeling it in a way similar to 's or 's Q. The longer you channel, the longer the range and the higher the damage gets. You are slowed while channeling. The arrow, as the name suggests, pierces enemies, but it deals less damage if it hit multiple enemies before reaching your target. So for an optimal poking Q you will want to channel it until max range, and release it when your target is isolated. Keep in mind that you are slowed and cannot cast abilities while channeling, so you are quite vulnerable. You obviously do not always want to fully channel your arrow, for example in a full-on 2v2 it is a waste of time and damage to channel 3 seconds for a Q when you could also basic attack them.
