Threats & Synergies
his ability to block your harass with his passive and Q as well as harass you back combined with his better scaling and mobility make Kassadin a champ you should simply avoid picking malzahar into, if thats not an option try to get help from allies to take him down.
his area spells make popping your passive easy for him and his DOTs deal damage through it, hes not an imposible match up but a hard one never the less. rushing boots to dodge his abilities and he should be manageable. use your teleport to gank while he farms and help your team as you wont win lane easily.
His wave clear, range and damage make him a very problematic matchup for Malzahar. buy boots early and only all in with R up if the enemy jungler cant help them. use your teleport to gank while he farms and help your team as you wont win lane easily.
his early harass is obnoxious to say the least, and his ability to push then roam makes him hard to deal with. just wait until you get your items and get him with your allies. use your teleport to gank while he farms and help your team as you wont win lane easily.
Her Q and E constantly damaging you make your passive non-existent and because Malzahar looks where he casts E and Q it opens opportunities for her to ult you and kill, she cant out push you so use that and your teleport to your advantage.
more of a nuisance really, if you play passive, farm and roam with teleport or help jungle invade he cant do to much and you'll out scale mid game with your R and team.
his CC and magic resistance makes him hard to deal with alone, but his global R and ability to interrupt your R with his taunt make him a hard lane, like Kassadin avoid him and let your team fight him, your silence will NOT end his shield of durand ability FYI.
his Q and all in potential with E make him a threat with jungle pressure, but if you play to passive hell just steal your R and roam with it witch is VERY bad for your team, what i recommend is to stay warded on the sides of mid and dance around your minions, staying out of his passives area and using minions to block his E, you need to push while doing this so he cant just clear out your minions, if he tries to hard to engage he will take big minion damage and give you a free trade and maybe even a kill if you have enough minions and silence his W.
her ability to dash in and poke or all in suddenly gives her unpredictability, something that makes her a hard person to push in, because of this she can push and roam, getting kills across the map. but if you bait her to dash under turret and R her mid dash you will lock her down and ensure massive damage if not a kill. if she clones from her passive during your R you don't lose your R and you keep her locked down despite her becoming invisible.
his cooldowns make poke a hassle until he gets level 3 and even then he has to spend all his energy and abilties to do so. his R is a joke to Malzahar, when he ults just get away from his shadows and R him when he comes out. keep pushing his lane, taking first or second tower easily. mid and late game use your silece to lock him down and only R him to safe yourself in a 1v1 or if he gets fed from roams or bad plays.
unless your allies feed her somehow she cant do much to you, barely even warranting an R. her shroud is the only thing to fear in her kit because of your R and silence.
he CAN get you if you over extend with less than 4 minions but otherwise dodge his Q and make sure to bait his R before yours unless you have the jungler coming to gank.
her damage is always a threat, even if shes behind, respect it by avoiding her daggers. your silence can turn her R off early and deny her damage and her blinks, combined with your R she cant do much and she needs to farm early for gunblade.
similar to Ekko you might have trouble killing him but simply pushing and denying far ill stifle him enough to make him weak.
her poke early can be hard to dodge but unless she gets fed you can always just R her and let your team kill her easily.
her poke, like Xerath and Azir makes her troublesome and her damage is no joke, try to dodge but due to her lack of mobility you can often R her while your allies gang up on her. in lane just try to avoid getting rooted.
Ahri has little to nothing in her kit to handle you, if she wants to charm, summon voidlings to body block, silence to prefent escape and E into R. she can roam so ping your allies when shes gone for even 2 seconds.
dodge her root and you pretty much win the 1v1. make sure you only R if her clone is down to make sure you don't hit the wrong one. make sure to ping if she seems to be gone for even 2 seconds.
her poke in lane can kill you if you stay to long and her ability to assist her team later gives her the ability to force you out and roam, but you can clear the wave no problem if you dodge her attack order.
Talon is the one assassin i can think of Malzahart should worry about, he has a solid ranged poke spell in rake and his roams can happen so fast he can just get the wave to stack and roam, he also has great all in and invisibility to prevent getting ulted by Malz, definetly build armguard for him early and wait for ganks as well as try to punish roams.
his damage late game could be a problem if you couldnt just R him and end it. early avoid getting poke while pushing, make it harder for him to stack by getting minions under tower, if her throws his stun around you, you can actually just walk through it with your passive.
if you just stay away from his spell flux he has little that can threaten you, you cannot cancel his R with Q but you can mess up his combos by delaying spells as well as push harder and take tower.
keep her health low and don't get to close before 6 and she cant stop you from destroying her tower.
his High damage output and movespeed buff let him capitalize on your R very well and his long range R lets him finish who you cant reach. similar to: jhin, Jinx, Malzahar works well with most champions.
his ability to jump in, tank and lock down makes him great for keeping you safe. similar to: Thresh, blitzcrank, Malzahar works well with most champions.
Champion Build Guide
try and make the enemy miss as much CS as possible early game to set them back and weaken them. while the wave is under tower you should never be any further than between the two walls of the river or else you risk being ganked.
look for early backs to keep pressure on the enemy and keep an item advantage early by pushing and backing, using teleport to get back quick if you need to.
a trick to use is that towers wont change targets among minions and your voidlings, if an enemy backs and you want to siege his tower with voidlings, wait for the tower to target a full health melee minion or a cannon minion before summoning them, the voidlings gets more damage off than you'd think
when farming with E it may jump to the enemy champion, dont try to hit Q right away, let it sit for about a second then cast it just behind them so if they stay still or move back they get hit. resetting your E deals lots of damage, at level 2 with both abilities at rank 1 and E has ticked for 2 seconds a reset will deal a total of 190+185%AP magic damage, not including Summon Aery, scorch and cheap shot damage.
if you've already killed you lane opponent and still have your R you should look to roam with teleport or group for dragon or herald, with your R you can stop any attempts to steal by the enemy jungler. its important for you to get your Ultimate hunter stacked up so that you can use your R whenever you need it.
If you cant roam for any reason, push for first tower, mid is a great lane to have opened up for a big push later. for second tier tower you need your team so really group up to get shut downs and objectives with your team.
By now some enemies will have purchased a QSS or a Mercurial scimitar, take note of who and simply dont R them until you see it go down, this eliminates a good bit of value they get out of it, especially for QSS.
make sure to keep wards up so your team has vision of the enemy.
