Relatively easy matchup if he's not a pro. Dodge/WW his triangular slow, and once you get the tornado, save it for zoning bc the knockup cancel's his q.
Akali
You outscale her hard late game, but her early game is very strong vs you (but cooldown reliant), and her level 6 powerspike goes harder than you.
Alistar
You usually will only see him as a support, but if he even gets near you, e onto him, go ham, and disengage. quick trades are better especially post 6 bc he's a tanky cow.
Amumu
Usually jungler, never top. However, bait his stun/gapcloser by dodging/WW'ing it and force quick trades, don't get caught in his R it usually ends in death w jungler.
Anivia
She's top as a niche pick but i wouldn't reccomend yas vs her at all (she has 600 aa range). However, if you WW her stun (and her e if she throws both before WW) you can try to all in but her wall will disengage. communicate with jungler. get hexdrinker after phantom dancer and rush into infinity edge.
Annie
Her Q is the only WW'able ability, her stun is practically on no cd bc she can use q to farm w/o losing mana. Communicate w jungler and let her push for a good gank. Pre-6 you can poke her down/all in as you want just watch stun availability. get hexdrinker after phantom dancer and focus on farm
Aurelion Sol
If he builds the regular DOT build you'll be fine, windwall/dodge the stun and just get onto him. be wary of his R though try to bait it out before diving. If he does full ap route, just be wary of his R and his stun bc he has oneshot power. build hexdrinker after phantom dancer and then go into infinity edge.
Brand
Snowball matchup, whoever gets first kill in lane will most likely win (but you're reading my build :D) dodge his pillar of flame with a dash, and windwall his stun (post 6 try to dodge that and save WW for his ult). He's cd reliant early so capitalize on them.
Camille
early game, and depending on build can be hard as hell. her gapcloser is easily dodgeable with e. level 1-3 are easy trades but after that it depends on who has more gold and how you trade.
Cho'Gath
check and see his stats, if he went raw ap, you can go straight onto him early after dodging his q. his level 6 spike is stronger and if he's smart he'll silence first so try to dodge/bait that cd out before engaging. he's infinite scaling so careful he's very strong in this patch.
Darius
DO NOT DO PRE MINION FIGHTS. e onto him when he q's, try to disengage after his pull is on cd and at level 6 don't fight unless you're fed. Not reccomended to play yasuo vs him but communicate w jungler.
Dr. Mundo
wait till his q is on cd for a quick trade, but his poke and base damages hurt like hell so force quick trades hard. his level 1 is kinda weak so you can try to get good damage in then. get jungler help, preferably one with good damage to help chunk mundo.
Ekko
dodge his stun and WW/dodge q, don't let him ult onto you, go ham its an easy matchup.
Fiora
This is a snowball matchup, her damage scales harder than yours late game, so you need to kill her before level 6. try to outfarm, and you can kill at level 2 if you beat her to level 2. you can also kill if you beat her to level 6 and play it right.
Fizz
his early levels suck butt, just e when he drops down from his untargettable trickster thing. post level 6, try to windwall his fish (run backwards at same time, the windwall doesn't absorb fish just stops it there). long as his R doesn't hit, you should win every fight. Always ping your mia's, but especially with fizz. his ganks go hard.
Galio
Easy if played correctly. dodge his dash and engage on him when his passive autoattack damage is on cd. post level 6 he has an almost surefire escape, which sucks but if he uses it, it's a super long cd and he can't use it in a teamfight. You can outfarm him hard but I don't recommend going in aiming to snowball off of him. It's a play matchup.
Gangplank
you can dodge his barrels as he q's them by e'ing off a minion. He can cleanse your R and your knockups so he's a bit annoying, but if you can snowball or get onto him fast enough you outdamage him. you can windwall his q.
Gragas
Just windwall his q, prioritize WW'ing his R, and you'll know when he's about to engage bc most of the time he'll start drinking his w. as long as his R get's windwalled and you keep auto'ing you'll win the fight. be wary of his build though bc tank gragas has strong base damages.
Hecarim
just a raw damagey champ, no windwall's, can't really outrun him, you can snowball off a bad one but i don't reccomend playing yas vs him it's a farm lane. he outdamages every time past level 4. you can kill him if you get your pd and as boots before he gets his triforce. bait his e and communicate w jungler.
Illaoi
don't engage early game, she just has strong base damages. her q is easily dodgeable but don't let her rip out your soul: it hurts and zones from farm unless you're confident in dodging the tentacles. Unless you feel reaaally confident, just back off when she pulls your soul. if you damage her, the soul doesn't stay out as long and you might not get the slow. you can windwall her e and look for hard cc from jungler to help when illaoi r's.
Irelia
you outtrade early, not level 4-5, and post 6. make sure to outfarm and harass. you can only windwall her R so you might as well take 2 points in e at level 3 depending on their jg.
Jarvan IV
he's never really top. but if he is, you could get ****ed up hard. watch to see if he goes tank or damage first, bc tank is a farm lane, damage is just not reccomended to go yasuo. his burst is strong and no windwall.
Jax
no windwall, his dodges literally dodge all damage you have besides e and r. try to e him when he q's onto you and run while his e is running, then go back and make a quick trade. communicate with jungler, late game don't 1v1 unless you have tornado. cool tip though, if you q him through minions (hitting minion before hitting him) it can't be dodged. this doesn't work when you do the circle q with eq.
Jayce
you can windwall the ranged part of the kit completely, he's bursty as **** if he gets even 1 kill. tornado can interrupt his little jumpy dunk, and then you can engage on him and punish him. he's cd reliant early. capitalize on it. don't let him auto you too much while he's ranged.
Karma
She's between yellow and red, but she's a pain in the *** to deal with. shields, poke, pointclick cc. if you push, you're ****ed unless you push and roam. make SURE to freeze or let her push. communicate w jungler and try your best to dodge her q.
Kayn
bit of an annoying guy, but nothing too op. e while he dashes, e to dodge his line knockup/slow and constantly auto. you're stronger than him essentially all game unless he gets fed. make sure to let the wave push when a jg ganks and make sure you get off the tornado into R bc his escape into the wall is hard to follow on.
Kennen
watch his autoattacks, they hurt early game, but at level 6, try to get out of his R and definitely ping its cd to your jungler. you can beat him if you poke him and farm hard.
Kled
cd reliant trades. Watch for his w(violent tendencies) and once its on cd, go in and make quick trades. windwall his q or wait till he puts it on cd but otherwise you should win this matchup. try to beat him to level 2 and you can get a kill. don't engage level 6 unless you have gold advantage.
Lissandra
kinda annoying bc her q is on such a short cooldown. I'd do the hexdrinker into pd route, and would reccomend windwalling her claw if at all possible. it stops her engage, and gets rid of her escape if you jg is ready for her. make sure to try to farm bc her harass zones from farm early game, and her level 6 spike hurts like hell. she gets healed and does damage. or she can stun you either way, be careful and make quick trades. use windwall in her face if you want to do an engage straight onto her instead of onto her q.
Malphite
you outtrade him very hard bc if he tries to trade with his kit at all, he loses tons of mana. if he gets oom, call jungler for guaranteed kill or summs. level 6 if you have no significant gold advantage, don't engage bc he'll have armor (which he scales off of) and that godforsaken annoying *** R. Flash it if you know the jungler is there, but otherwise just take the damage and e outta there. ping mia's with this ***hat. all he needs to do is hit R and faceroll for a good gank.
Maokai
just don't choose yasuo. he outheals you, his base damage is stronger than yours early game, and when he gets tankier later on, he will slowly 1v1 you dead with his heals. you can windwall some of his R, and you can windwall him tossing his seed, and his q as the shockwave moves forward. can't windwall the knockback. communicate with jungler for gank. farm hard in this lane.
Nasus
his late game will wreck you 1v1 if he farms properly. That's where you come in: don't let him farm properly. Level 1 he is guaranteed to take q, so walk up to him before minions and aa - q - aa and keep auto'ing till he goes back. if you're lucky, he'll stay and just stay low. otherwise during laning, farm on his side of the creeps. go into bush as needed to get the minions from attacking you but it zones him good early game. if he finishes any item and has good farm, get jungler help. he's super strong rn with his new R and Q interaction so be very careful at level 6 depending on his farm.
Nautilus
Base damages sting like a *****. you can windwall his q and R, but unless he's underfed and/or you have a gold advantage, keep farming and just harass him. you won't be able to get a kill unless he misses a q, then capitalize on it. be wary of their jungle, if naut touches you, you're ****ed. get qss this match.
Olaf
you outtrade at level 1, assuming he isn't going oom from spamming q. He get's really strong at level 6 bc the passive stat buff, and the non-cc R he has. get jungler help since this guy has no escapes but this guy also snowballs hard play this safely. his R also stops cc so unless you know it's on cd, make sure you tell your jungler to only use nonultimate abilities unless its for the raw damage or effects besides cc.
Pantheon
don't do this matchup period. your tornado can stop his gapcloser, but you will still get stunned so it only helps to trade. and his passive blocks your q. it's the same interaction as jax though, you can q through a minion and damage him but it won't take away his passive. (Q'ing through a minion meaning you hit the minion first before panth, not an eq on panth). communicate w jungler
Poppy
her early game is even trades, don't let her farm, step on her shield, you can windwall her fully charged R but not her simple knockup R. you can win this early and late game. don't e when she gets her circle on her, it means your dashes get knocked up and you take damage. watch out for her jungle though. she can stun you for a really long time.
Quinn
winwdall her q and that's it, just farm early game, make your quick trades if at all possible (most likely not if she's competent). don't pick yas for this matchup unless you already have a feel for yas. watch out for her e and communicate with jungler otherwise she will burst you to death and roam and take the mid tower 10 seconds after killing you.
Renekton
tank renekton - go ham
damage renekton - you lose at every point in the game. he bursts you hard.. almost/more than a riven could burst you. the only real counter play is anticipating his q and e'ing to dodge it, and e'ing when he dashes so he can't combo you with stun. communicate with jungler for this matchup.
Riven
You've all heard the stories.. "yasuo fed riven.." "riven rekt top bc yasuo died." theyre right. you can windwall her windslash but her damage is outright stronger than yours, she usually runs cdr before or with lethality, and you will die real quick. However, you can take frozen mallet midgame if you're able to farm and hopefully if you beat her to core items (most likely not) you kill her. call for jungler on this matchup.
Rumble
he zones hard, but in lower elo's he also pushes really hard. soon as his q is down, quick trade and get back out. get jungler help, you can windwall his taser and ult.
Ryze
you can windwall his e and q, but not his root. rush hexdrinker into pd and communicate with jungler its an easy gank once ryze's root is on cd.
Shen
dodge his taunt, don't engage on his blocking zone, you win the lane. ping his mia's bc he has his global R tp which is annoying. you can stop the channel with a knockup only.
Singed
he's faster than you and can kite you hard. his sticky patch grounds, so you can't e when you're on it. just get jungler help from someone with a knockup. otherwise, just farm well. singed will get away easily. q singed as you can that's all there is to it. early levels are only levels that are possible to kill him.
Sion
you can windwall his e projectile, but not the minion he tosses at you. you should win this matchup if you outfarm him and try to interrupt his farming.
Swain
nothing to windwall, except his q WHEN IT MOVES TO TARGET LOCATION NOT THE DAMAGE. your all in can usually kill him if you get out of the q and don't get rooted. if he goes tank, be careful of his all in he heals a lot with his r. junglers can gank easily on him.
Tahm Kench
he has a real simple combo if you get in his face, so don't. ask for an early gank, and if you aren't going to get a gank any time soon, just shove the lane up and roam mid. you won't win a straightup 1v1 vs tahm unless he misses q and doesn't devour you.
Taliyah
a good taliyah will know how to place her e, but otherwise you can just wait till she tosses it, dodge her knockback, and go for a hard trade. her early damage is a bit strong so make sure to dodge/bait her q out. getting worked ground out in lane is extremely useful for later trades.
Talon
his level 2 will kill you, he'll usually run ignite. just don't let him do anything pre6 unless he missed his w (throwing blades back and forth). jungler won't be able to gank him without strong cc straight on him. you outscale him with core, or just finishing full crit.
Teemo
windwall his q, get a vision ward, sweeper lens after level 6 into a oracle alteration level 9, and just all in him. he can't do ****.
Trundle
you both trade evenly. you can go onto him if he q's a minion but it's still a pretty even quick trade. abuse your shield against him, its a farm lane. you can never really win lane against a good trundle.
Tryndamere
his sustain is annoying, but he outdamages you if you don't try to kite around him with e and q. get jungler help after baiting his e. otherwise he'll survive with R, e, and flash. pretty easy if you kite around him though.
Urgot
he's strong as **** atm. quick trades are great when you just eqe him so he loses the machine gun cd, and then you can go for a harder trade. windwall his machine gun pre6, but windwall his R post6 unless you know its on cd (once he gets black cleaver and whatnot it's not the longest cd ever). get jungler help he's pretty gankable once pushed up a bit.
Vi
tank vi is managebale. damage vi wrecks. dodge her q with e, her R is unstoppable, and if she gets the q on you, just q her and disengage bc she'll do a q-aa-e combo to get her triple stack off. get jungler to engage after you bait out her q. easy matchup if good dodges are there and you get any kind of advantage onto her.
Vladimir
you can windwall his chargeup e, but you can't windwall his q so be careful of that. his damage goes hard regardless of tank, bruiser, or mage.if you can make sure he uses his empowered q on minions, then engage on him right away. junglers can gank him pretty well if you get his untargettable cd off. don't dive him unless you know its on cd btw, otherwise he can just go untargettable and kill you under tower with abilities while untargettable.
Volibear
get him early, don't get ganked. you can wreck him early and get fed off it. if not, just farm. be wary of his passive. take ignite if you want to get the early kills bc they're kinda necessary for it to be anything but a farm lane. he's hard to gank unless far pushed up, and no flash.
Warwick
Just be careful. you can e out of his fear before he howls, but he can q to follow your e. his ult can only really be dodged from far away, and don't waste a tornado on it for anything besides damage. early game he wins, late game you win.
Wukong
he goes oom if he pokes too much, but that early damage with the ignite hurts. make extra sure to keep moving to keep shield up, q as soon as he gets on you and then look to follow with e to continue the trade bc otherwise he'll escape with his clone. level 6 you can win if you're even or have a gold advantage. watch his stats though, a youmuu/lethality item will kill you, a black cleaver will just hurt alot. you interrupt his gapcloser with a tornado.
Yasuo
I mean.. he's you. Don't do mirror matchups in ranked, regardless of elo you never know about smurfs, how good the enemy yas is. However, you can windwall a tornado, and if he has tornado up and you don't, and he comes to eq on you, e him at the same time. early game make sure to capitalize when he misses a q on you. mirror matchups revolve around making the better trade. also make sure to disengage smartly, whoever gets the first kill in this matchup basically wins the lane, unless there are slipups or alot of jungler intervention. hopefully you win this since you read my guide :)
Yorick
his farm can get really strong so make sure you match that. you can only windwall his e (his slow and his aimer for minions) so windwall that whenever you can't dodge, its a slow projectile. Make sure he doesn't have his minions available when you go in to harass and zone him from farm, and try to go in when he has no graves and after he q's. makes for better trade.be careful of his level 6 all in, the maiden of the mist damage is pretty busted with a decently farmed yorick.
Zac
Just don't get ganked, you outdamage him early and late game, but midgame you could face some damage. you can interrupt his dive with a tornado, but be cautious of his R, you could get thrown into a tower or into a gank.
Rammus
I mean for ****'s sake he's the armor tank. If you can beat him, props to you jeez i haven't had this matchup before but nothing is windwallable, and he has pointclick cc and serious armor and base damages. don't do it.
Garen
Spin2win... his early game has serious damage, be extremely cautious of his aa-q-e combo. go in for poke if he q's a creep, disengage when he spins (he won't spin right away unless he's good, even then you can outtrade with aa-q-aa before disengage).level 6 call for gank unless you're ahead. he will dunk your ***. nothing can be windwalled.
Gnar
you can windwall his q, his auto's, and mega q but be wary of his poke. He will constantly drop your shield, so make sure to e onto him for quick trades if he misses a q. However, watch his rage bar. If he transforms when you're near him, pre6 or post6, that's a ****ton of damage. depending on how you do with the poke, i would reccomend a botrk for this matchup and pre6 jungler coordination.
Zed
Skill matchup. If you can dodge his q's, you more or less dodged him. don't go in when you're low unless you feel sure. Also don't forget to pop your R when he pops his, the more cc while his R is ticking, the better. He can burst harder late game but you have a better sustained damage.
Hi guys! I'm not a big time ranked player (yet) but I recently started playing ranked and have been climbing (might reach gold by november or so). I have roughly 200k mastery points on yasuo, and play him often so I thought I might share some tips and tricks of him that alot of people don't know when they try to "pro yasuo main" and **** up the game :).
Summoner Spells
Summoner Spells
Flash - you need it. outplays, escapes, gapcloser, finish off someone. just necessary.
Teleport - highly reccomended. a good team will have some nice deep wards for you to tp to after shoving lane to gank and get towers. Also helps with getting back to lane after recalling after bad trades.
Very aggressive summ, only reccomended against specific healing tanks like volibear or mundo. take in very easy matchup but ignite is very aggressive regardless, whereas teleport can at give you a global presence as well as an even stronger lane presence if you're stomping on your enemies like you should be.
Skill Sequence
Skill Sequence
Many guides will tell you to max q first. This is wrong for many reasons because mainly, it only gets you base damages, not cooldowns. Maxing E however, will get you lower cooldown between e's, and a lower cooldown for when you can use e again on an enemy, AND higher base damages. after this, maxing q is necessary for stronger midgame spikes, and windwall final max for the wider wall in teamfights (ALL ASSUMING YOU MAX R AS YOU CAN).
Spells
Spells
Q. This is bread and butter, minion aggro, knockup, insane damage, yasuo's famous ability. this ability allows for aa-q-aa on a low cd, for rapid high damage trades favoring yasuo. however, q'ing directly onto a champion without q'ing a minion in between the champ and yourself causes minion aggro, which hurts in the early game. if you decided to go in, or even eq an enemy, walk into bushes to draw off aggro asap. also, be sure to save tornado unless you have a reason to use it besides poke: it's a great zoning tool.
Windwall - this is what makes yasuo a strong potential midlaner, but not as strong as top. in the top lane, this allows for many features beyond projectile absorption. In many instances, it is a great tool for escape to get vision on another side of a wall (eg to get vision of gromp to e over wall).
Sweeping Blade - This mobility can make or break a yasuo. this ability stacks passive shield hard, can throw you into turrets, dodge entire team's worth of kits, and hop walls. sadly, wallhops are limited to champions, minions (when placed correctly), gromps, krugs, and raptors. wallhopping off of a champion will take practice,as will the rest, but E is a useful skill to learn to abuse. more than the power to engage, the ability to disengage on command is powerful to escape cooldowns of cooldown reliant champions.
Last Breath - This ultimate can do a total of 500-600 damage to an entire team, along with a q to the entire team afterwards. this is a BUSTED ult. it starts on an 80 sec cooldown, blinks to target cursor (so you can dance outside of a tower while still ulting someone) and automatically stacks your shield for you. make sure to try to use this in a duel early on, but save this ultimate for teamfights when you can anticipate one coming. Also, alot of beginner yasuo's q straight after using R. However, maximizing damage in a 1v1 comes from doing an aa-q-aa right after an R. an autoattack can't be dodged, flashed, etc, and an aa-q-aa does triple the damage in about the same amount of time. many adc's will get oneshotted with tornado-r-aa-q-aa
Pros / Cons
Pros / Cons
Pros-
- Strong trader
- hypermobile
- always shielded
- aoe cc
-strong with just core
Cons-
-squishy as ****
-shut down by cc
-easy to misplay
Creeping / Jungling
Creeping / Jungling
farming is very easy on yasuo, don't q too often, watch the stack decay before doing again bc otherwise you'll push too hard (Extreme problem for beginner yasuo's that q the entire wave). just q for last hit, and don't tornado through minions unless it's for a kill or is just necessary. you should almost always outfarm your opponent, and should have strong control of the wave.
Team Work
Team Work
watch for anyone on your team with knockups. there aren't many but, Aatrox, Alistar, Blitzcrank, Braum, Chogath, Fizz, Galio, Ivern, Janna, J4, Kalista, Kayn, Lee Sin, Lulu, Malphite (this guy is your friend), Nami, Nautilus, Poppy, Rakan, Reksai, Riven, Sejuani, Sion, Taliyah, Vi, Wukong, Xin Zhao, Yasuo (OP in 1 for all), Zac, Zyra. don't just burn R cd right away, watch for a good time to catch priority targets out. and cc them. good yasuo R's can singlehandedly initiate a fight leading to an ace. Be very way of cc coming at you if you dive early on, have tornado ready to R off of as necessary but make sure to get a followup.
