Another thing I forgot to say: masteries. Why people think utility is better than tank? Really, I get 9/21/0 and kill easily because I have experience. It's virtually impossible to kill me and I run over anyone who stands on my way.
Utility tree makes you more vulnerable and just Randuins and FoN will not hold you. And with those people getting more and more AP, they'll get less than 130 armor and MR like this.

Let's remember that Abyssal Scepter is the second highest MR item.
EDIT: So getting it against a caster heavy team is OK if you already have FoN

It sure is a great item, I hsve nothing against it. One thing that bothers me is the best rated guide. Why people should get hextech and will of ancients or rylais and frozen mallet? I see that the author did a great job explaining things, but those are the worst buildings ever.
I can only see walking armors dying easily. Akali is a great champion, but she cant kill another champion with high def easily, but I destroyed many mordes since the champ rotation.
BTW, if you want HP, get warmogs. It + randuins + fon combo makes you alive for a whole match.

I used to think that too, but the nerf to defense made me rethink. Utility is stronger right now. ANY experienced player knows this.
If you lack HP; just get HP quints.
Defense gives a total of 10MR and 10armor in resistances (I know the math, I mean; it's me). That's easily achieved through items. 3%MS, 6%CDR and 15% summoner CDR are things that can't be bought and thus; invaluable.

Ardor and Tenacity are the only things which you want from Defence. A 4% increase in your AP is very nice to have, and taking 4% less damage overall can help. Veteran Scars reduces your early game squishyness, meaning you can use 9x Greater Seal of Vitality if you want, to give you 175 more HP at lv18.
In Utility, you miss out on Awareness which personally I like to get on any champion I can, because leveling up fast is important, especially for a Tank. The last thing you want is to be getting pounded on by higher-levelled enemies, it'll make you somewhat redundant. You'll also miss out on increased Blue Buff, which brings your biggest consideration as a tank: CDR. Quickness and Improved Ghost are also in the utility Tree, so unless you go 8/21/1 your Ghost will be less potent. As a Tank's job is to take damage, in theory, you should be dying more than your carries, so missing Good Hands is only made worse. Intelligence and Presence of the Master are the icing and cherry on the Mordekaiser cake. 15% of your max CDR and the faster use of your ever-reliant Ghost and Ignite give you more staying power.

I saw just one build that has the best option: Force of Nature, Randuin's Omen and Rylai's Crystal Scepter. These are the best items ever for Mordekaiser,
(Y) and Abyssal too.

That guide is kinda old you know (granted, it's updated recently). I don't see eye-to-eye myself because I don't think Morde is being correctly used if he's a main tank, but it's popular I guess.

i've played morde both tanky and AP. I concluded that going full AP with like 1 tank item works best for me. Late game morde can kill literally anything with 2-3 hits. His Q goes very well with lichbane proc.
(from a competative point of view): If you want to be killing people with 2-3 hits, why are you playing Morde?
@Bernarnar: Abyssal sure is a great item. It gives AP and MR, but FoN has more MR and has the HP regen, so its better to get FoN first. Mordekaiser has no CC, and Rylais gives a good AP and CC, so its better to get Rylais first.
I think items like Abyssal and Hourglass are great, but they can be done after some more important items.
Main tank no. He's you and only you. Theres no reason to blame a Mordekaiser, he cant save you if he doesnt kill the enemy. Of course you can try to help, but save is tank job.
Mordekaiser isnt being used correctly if you get Hextech Gunblade or/and Will of the Ancients.
Hextech Gunblade is a hybrid item and Mordekaiser is an offtank. But I'll not let you without anything, you can play as Jax, Akali and Katarina if you want to get hextech. OK, no more jokes.
+60 AD: Its useful and isnt. Getting AD depends more on the player.
+75 AP: I'm sure that Rylais gives more AP and has CC, so why you need only 75 and no slow?
+20% Life Steal and +25% Spell Vamp: I dont really think that any kind of regen excluding HP regen is necessary. I'll get FoN no matter what happens, you dont need neither lifesteal nor spellvamp.
Will of the Ancients:
+80 AP: Rylais gives 80 AP too and has slow
+25% spell vamp: No need, you have FoN
Dont you agree with this? Heres the proof that both hextech and will of ancients are useless.

When I started, my friends taught me how to become invincible and I still use the old tank build. But I was checking some guides and they are good, many builds have a certain balance between defense and attack. Yet players are just ignoring everything and getting full AP. I saw some builds full AP too.
I saw just one build that has the best option: Force of Nature, [Rnduin's Omen]] and Rylai's Crystal Scepter. These are the best items ever for Mordekaiser, yet people prefer to get Hextech Gunblade or Will of the Ancients and just ignore defense.
Why that happens? What can be done so people truly learn how to play as Mordekaiser?
