Should votes without comments be anonymous?

Let me start off by saying that things are fine the way that they are currently (my vote reflects that statement). The following is just some thinking that this thread has made me do.

The main thing that authors of guides want to see from voting is the reasoning behind the vote. And this isn't just for downvotes. You also want to know what people liked about your guide so that you can continue to focus on those sorts of things in the future. The only way that Mobafire is going to somewhat improve on its guides (which let's all admit, some are pretty bad), is through a better way of gaining constructive criticism.

However if you sit down and think about it from the perspective of someone who created a guide, of course you also sort of want to know WHO voted on your guide so that you might could work with them for the above stated reason of improving the guide. The problem with instating something like this though is that there are so many immature people on this site that they will take advantage of something like this and keep a "hit list" of people who downvoted their guide and go and downvote any guides that person may have and any that they make in the future simply because that person voiced their opinion.

ATTENTION: READ THIS ENTIRE PARAGRAPH!
The solution I see to this is reinstate the C2V feature at all times, not just the first 20 votes. This could just be another option like the current C2V option. Now for the part that would separate this feature from what was done in the past. The comments which were required for voting could be put in a separate area for the author to see, privately messaged to him/her, etc. ALSO, the commentor's name would not be included. It would be completely anonymous. This way, the author still gets feedback on their guide, and the voters don't have to worry about backlash for their vote.

Again, this solution wouldn't necessarily knock out the troll votes, but it could allow voters to freely express their criticism of the guide without the fear of their own guides being trolled by another simply for what they suggested.

As stated at the beginning of this novel, I am currently perfectly fine with the way that the voting feature is at the moment. It seems to be working fairly well. I just felt compelled to share my thoughts on how it might be improved.

TLDR: The author of this comment doesn't know how to condense things and still be understandable. If you're still reading this expecting me to shorten what the above said, you're out of luck. Be a mature adult and read it just like everyone else.

The option to comment anonymously would be a great addition imo.

Very interesting idea.

I'll second this.

I could go around and leave constructive advice on tons of guides all day, but i can't, because I have guides that i don't want to get down voted into the pits of hell.

Yea, and any people who abuse this can just be punished anyways, since you'll obviously be able to report people even if you can't see their name.

Exactly, the person's IP address or whatnot is still recorded so that the admins are able to tell who voted on what if it is absolutely necessary to do this.

And even if the whole overhaul part (where the C2V feature that I spoke of is a separate entity) is not feasible due to the amount of work needed to make it separate, it should be entirely possible to make a box that one could check in order to appear anonymous in their comment.

Some may argue that this will only allow even more troll votes since there appears to be no way to identify the commentor. However, I feel that those that now feel comfortable voting and commenting anonymously in order to not suffer backlash would greatly outnumber those that begin to troll vote. I could be wrong but that's just what I think.

What are y'all's thoughts?

And vote as well?

That would probably reduce the amount of inflated scores we see. No more fear of revenge-votes or anything.

Could encourage troll-voting, since it isn't a punishable offense. At least if someone is troll-voting guides, we know who it is. Doing the same while anonymous would be even easier. :(

Might be worth it in the end. Can't be sure. In general, trollvoters probably don't care enough about their rep to vote anonymously anyway.

Psi, surely you don't truly believe that there is actually anything that can be done anonymously on the interwebs. If you had read what I said in my above comment, you would know that all it would take is for the admins to look back at the IP, etc of whoever said what and *TA DAH* you know who said it. Then if an admin perceives what was said as punishable, then they can be dealt with.

Just as I said earlier and you somewhat touched on, yes the anonymous option may cause a bit more troll voting since people will believe that they can't be touched. However, I feel that those who have been scare of revenge votes in the past will now begin to cast their votes and the scores of guides will finally begin to reflect the score that they should have.
