Hello and welcome to the MOBAFire Patch Summary - 5.11!

If you've played League of Legends today and found yourself wondering why the cooldown of the enemy Aatrox' Blood Well suddenly felt so low, why using LeBlanc's Distortion felt so slow or why Sivir's On The Hunt buff seemed to last shorter than usual in a late game teamfight, you've probably missed the release of patch 5.11 a few days ago. No worries though, we've got you covered.

In this post, we'll be taking a look at some of the most significant balance changes this patch has to offer and touch on the goals Riot is trying to reach by applying them. As always, we'll also talk about items (or one item, rather) and give you a sneak peek of three upcoming skins, which have been conveniently combined into one splash art. Let's get to it!

This patch has some very interesting changes to offer, with some of the changes already being spoiled in the introduction of this post.

That still leaves more than enough to talk about elsewhere though, with the first notable point being an interesting kit change made to Jayce, the Defender of Tomorrow. Since investing points in his ultimate previously felt rather unrewarding, Riot has now changed his kit to be similar to the old Karma, with his Q/W/E abilities all having 6 ranks and the level-up benefits of his ultimate being granted for free at level 6, 11 and 16. The extra rank per ability should see his signature Shock Blast / Acceleration Gate combo deal more damage, making him a good choice to pick for a poke comp.

Moving on from this (intended) buff, there's a pretty big group of strong champions receiving nerfs this time around, with Ashe's strength in lane being toned down by reducing the damage of Volley, Ekko receiving nerfs to his base movement speed (with the patch notes' description hinting at more nerfs to come), Hecarim's synergy with Enchantment: Homeguard + Teleport being reduced by making changes to Warpath and Devastating Charge, Katarina's Shunpo damage and AP ratio going down and Sejuani dealing lower %-HP bonus damage with Flail of the Northern Winds.

To end on a positive note, however, Brand's ultimate will no longer fizzle out (as easily) when reaching an invulnerable target, Caitlyn's Headshot now ignores a percentage of her target's bonus armor, Shen finally gains magic resist per level and Shyvana now deals an extra 25% of Burnout's AoE damage per basic attack while the ability is active.

Item Change

Though there's only one item change in this patch, it is still worth higlighting. In order to push Luden's Tempest into more of a situational niche, the AP ratio on the item has been reduced (0.15 ⇒ 0.1) and the stacks gained per spell cast have also been reduced from 20 to 10. Hopefully, these changes will ensure the item will become the strongest option only for some of the more kite-oriented mages in the game, rather than being the go-to pick for pretty much everyone.

Upcoming Skins

Jurassic World, anyone?

Share Your Thoughts!

Before we go, a quick reminder that the full patch notes contain even more info; they can be found here. If you're interested in changes to Twisted Treeline & Crystal Scar, updates to Diamond 5 LP gains and the bugs which have been fixed this patch, make sure to give them a look.

Speaking of things you should make sure to do, we'll end with a friendly reminder that your thoughts on everything this patch contains can be left below. For example, what are your thoughts on the buffs and nerfs to champions in this patch? Do you think the nerfs to Luden's Tempest will prove to be good enough, or will it still remain too powerful? And finally, are you planning on picking up a prehistoric skin in the near future? Let us know!

Sorry for the delay on this one, been a bit busy these last couple of days.

also I'm pretty sure the Orianna and Malphite changes are supposed to be buffs but I'm not sure, please don't hurt me ._.

Yeah I'd say they're buffs. The only thing that got nerfed would be AD Malphite.

The Jayce changes are nerfs imo. His major advantage of having one of the quickest power spikes is now delayed a bit. :/ Late game damage is nice tho.

Wait, Malphite has now the same thing as Cho'Gath except physical damage? New build incoming:

Boots of Swiftness - Distortion, Black Cleaver, Spirit Visage / new Abyssal Mask (if ever released), Randuin's Omen, Zephyr, Wit's End.

Yeah, you are the tanky shredding god. And actually, Malphite's base AS is really high.

BTW: Build vs full AD: Boots of Swiftness - Distortion, Black Cleaver, Randuin's Omen, Iceborn Gauntlet, Zephyr, Thornmail. The 500 armor monster is real.

The bigger nerf to Luden's Tempest is the amount of stacks gained from abilities rather than the damage loss. The nerf is definitely more impactful for the spammy type of champions like Cassiopeia because of how fast they could charge it with 20 stacks per ability. Now that it's down by 50% per use of a skill the champions with higher cooldowns don't get hit as hard because their ratio of champion movement to ability use for the stacks is a lot higher than the champions with low cooldowns and there was no nerf to the stacks gained from movement.

The nerf to the damage isn't too bad because when you think about it, you are only losing 5 damage per 100AP. Even with 700AP you are only losing out on ~35 damage per hit. It makes much more of a difference in a team fight though as you will then be losing out on ~140 damage. For early game and lane phase the nerf to the damage will be almost unnoticeable. Usually you will be around 200AP when you complete an early Luden's so you will only be losing 10 damage per proc.

Luckily for me Ahri was one of the champions that the nerf didn't hit as hard because she gains a lot of the passive stacks from the Movespeed on Orb of Deception and the distance travelled with Spirit Rush as opposed to being heavily reliant on skill casts to charge it.

I think you did a little mistake there. Kha'zix was buffed not nerfed :D. (ISOLATION RADIUS 500 ⇒ 425)
