I think hq (obviously stands for High Quality here, where as lq would be Low Quality) takes more samples.
I don't have it nearby to try it now, but I remember noticing a difference.

I never read the original Nuzlocke Challenge. It's never over! So I opened my FireRed rom again. First time since the under level Clerfairy raped my whole team with ******ed metronomes. Oh I will succeed!
inb4 grind to have a new team. (Only got Weedzy (Vileplume) and ThunderCat (Jolteon) left.)

G ****ING G NIDOQUEEN'S PASSIVE! (it has a chance to poison you every attack). Was fighting Giovanni's in the Silph Co. building in Safron City. I demolished him... until he threw out his Nidoqueen. Nidoqueen who then proceeded to analy rape my whole team without any lube. ThunderCat (somehow) managed to kill Nidoqueen (Sand-Attack OP mofo), but he got poisoned (of course) on the last hit. ThunderCat died as I was in front of the pokecenter.

Are you sure you tried the SUPER 2xSaI? There's a normal 2xSaI too(which isn't as good).
I really like Super 2xSaI. It's the best filter for making the image as little pixelated as possible.
I think hq2x is pretty good too. Have you tried it?
I can't see a difference between lq/hq2x so i just picked one :p
I am sure it was SUPER 2xSaI, I like the text/pokemons better with lq/hq2x.
They are very similar though.
