In top ELOs, you should be jungling.
Udyr still has the top clear time, and
Blazing Stampede still makes a fairly effective gank tool.

Lol. Even The Rain Man still lanes Udyr for TSM sometimes, so it is 100% viable. But I agree. If you want to win in solo queue at high elo, Jungle Udyr is standard. Granted, Jungle Udyr AP is difficult, because your starting item is kinda... awkward. Trust me Jun, i've done my fair share of Jungle Udyr lol. I've actually been doing that a lot more than laning lately because I enjoy the ability to affect all lanes instead of just control one lane. It has helped my win record.
AS reds, MS or AS quints, whatever you want for blues and yellows.
start amp tome or dagger, hextech revolver and zerks, into whatever you want.
Good items on AP Udyr:
Will of the Ancients
Rylai's Crystal Scepter
Zerk Greaves
Hextech Gunblade [technically hybrid]
Rabadon's Deathcap [late game]
Nashor's Tooth
Abyssal Scepter
I strongly suggest rushing a WotA. AP udyr is fairly squishy, and he needs all the help he can get. WotA lets him go crazy cuz he can easily heal back up. Rylais for perma slows and health, abyssal for resistance and AP, zerks and nashors give much needed AS.
My hybrid build is rush gunblade and zerks into either rageblades or rylais.
ap is rush wota into rylai and scepter. still zerks

^ Why not get
Sorcerer's Shoes and a
Stinger for AS? Sorc's stack up nicely with
Abyssal Mask. It'd be a shame to miss out on that flat pen. Also,
Stinger can be upgraded to
Nashor's Tooth at some point.
Just a thought.

Thanks to Janitsu for the sig!

If you aren't in AA range of someone with udyr, you aren't doing damage.
Frozen Mallet directly superior to Rylai's.

Why are you reiterating what I just said? The procs off of his Phoenix AND Tiger deal magic damge. Hur dur and he uses AAs to get them there. That's what I said...but that doesn't stop the fact that Tiger/Phoenix deal magic damage....Considering Tiger deals 150% of his AD as magic damage one could argue that indeed his main source of damage is magic based not Auto Attack damage based. LOL.
Frozen Mallet can't AoE slow, and Rylai's Phoe would be able to.
I'm not saying that Rylai's is some great Udyr item, but if you're already building AP...
*Shrug.

Wait, I was only referring to general Udyr gameplay.
We're talking about Jungle AP Udyr now? Now THERE'S something to explore.
If we're talking Jungle-AP Udyr,

Welcome to the thread?
If I am goofing around with AP Udyr I always end up with a Rylai's. Your Udyr and getting kited is your weakness. Like duff said, your already building AP so what does it hurt?
Its interesting to note how much
and
stack. Both give you mixed stats and you'll be feeling the full stack bonus almost immediately.
