I think if you're going to use atma's on the shen and rammus, you should figure out a way to get a warmog's in there. The massive health is nice on its own, plus the synergy with atamas = 20 extra ad. Not to mention in both of these builds you have no built in health regen, which isnt essential for tanking but i find it to be really help full.
The easiest replaceable one i see in the rammus build would be the aegis of legion.

Like the ideas, but you will need tanky items on cho, you can't rely on his ultimate only for being tanky, trust me i have tried, they will focus you down fast and hard and you will be a squishy little cho.
Ever tried ap tank cho? Great fun that i gladly rekomend.
And remember kids, don't get warmogs!

I actually have a tank AP Cho' guide and I like it much much more then a DPS Cho'Gath (I am not trying to advertise). The reason why I made the DPS Cho'Gath was because I see people fail with it all the time and I found a way to rely on normal attacks and abilities as a DPS instead of pure unthreating meat sheild Cho'. I was thinking instead of one of the last two items at the end I should add a RoA or Rylai's for the health and AP.
About warmongs: That is what he wanted so I let him know where he could put it. I personally never get a warmongs unless it is

1 Was suggested by myself back in January for the most part.
Hybrid AD/AP Attack speed Jungling Cho Gath (Aka Mother F***ing Cho Gath)™ (In case I ever decide to make a build for this one.)
Start with cloth armor and 5 health pots, Smite and any other summoner spell you'd like, doesn't really matter to me.
First point in vorpal spikes, start at blue, after blue proceed with normal jungling route. *Note: probably cannot take dragon alone until you have at least wriggles and level 6, with both feast and smite up). Priority: Feast>Vorpal Spikes>Rupture>Feral Scream
Build is as follows: Wriggles, Berserker's, Nashor's, Hextech Gunblade, Guinsoo's, Starks
As long as you are attacking you can survive just about anything. In fact with this build you can solo baron pretty easily and walk out with next to full HP. It's a good idea to constantly have blue and red buff, can feast about every 36 seconds, and keep up with pretty much anyone between Rupture and red buff slow. If a tower is damaged you can seriously just walk up to it and BD it pretty easily at full feast stacks.
Again, was done on a low level account, so without many masteries and no runes. Quite an untraditional build in my opinion. I'm unsure if Starks is necessary, would be interesting to see this build with rylais built in with vorpal slows and a slow on the rupture before the knockup (more likely to hit this way). Can probably carry (dual carry) with this build with a competent team.
It does work well if played by a competent player, and I have used it on occassion when bored.

A tanky dps doesn't mean you use attack speed.
It means your champion has either sustainable damage or solid tanky stats, and you build the counterpart aspect to form a hybrid of Tankiness and Damage.
In Cho'Gath's case, you would be building Mage Tank.
RoA, Sunfire, Abyssal, Thornmail, etc.. Cho's more of a Tanky Burst type though.
As for Rammus.
THORNMAIL. So important if you want damage with him.
Thornmail, Sunfire, Randuin's, Atma's, etc etc.

I was thinking could you build a Cho'Gath without item durability and instead it relied on its feast, idea is not meant to be tanky at all. As for the Rammus thing idk, I agree Thornmail is amazing on him but I was thinking of a rammus that was not a main tank but instead a subtank who had very good potential to take over just incase that could do extreemly well 1v1. His taunt drops there armor and he ball curl gives him more resistences (which makes him deal more damage) I guess the bezerker greaves are out of place there but I wanted to see how people see the ideas.
@awwsmm:
You want to build Cho'Gath without being tanky...?
Go and try it in Normal Queue. Then come back and repeat that again with a straight face. :]

1. Hybrid AD/AP DPS
The items:
Bezerker's Greaves
Hextec Revolver (not the gunblade yet)
Guinshoo's Rageblade
Hextec Gunblade
Infinite Edge
(Sorry for my poor spelling lol)
Brief Description: I have played with and against so many Cho'Gaths which tried to be a AD/AS champ because of
2. Off tank jungle
The Items:
Madreds Razors
Bezerker greaves
Madreds Bloodrazors
(I still can't spell most of these)
Brief Description: In this build I would just try to maximize the effectiveness of his passive, grabbing loads of armor and some decent AD/AS. I would max out defence masteries and get armor seals and health quints. Max out either the ball curl or the taunt and depending on how quick you want to jungle grabbing smite.
3. Tank/DPS
Dorans Ring
Gaurdian Angel
(Sorry for spelling yet again)
Description: With loads of armor ground slam will destroy, sheen work for
Thanks for taking a look at my strange ideas do not be afraid to put whatever imput you would like.
