To say frozen heart is wasting an item slot is a little drastic. Sure you waste 500 mana, but gain 20% CDR, an attack speed debuff, and 99 armor, the CDR being invaluable to spell vamp morde. No other CDR item can do as much as frozen heart for vamp morde.

I agree with wintermond. Morde is resonably squishy if he cannot properly maintain his shield. Morde has the burst and farmability to get a rylai's 10-15 mins in the game.
I have to admit this is some lovely theory crafting from both sides. Its obviously goong to be very hard to changes peoples views on rylais.. I think we should let this thread die and just play morde the way we usually do.

Rylai's I believe does NOT proc with ghost AAs. I know mallet doesn't, but I'm not 100% sure about rylai's. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Wintermond: Akali has the burst to be able to afford rylai's 15 minutes in instead of rushing Deathcap. She's also squishy. Morde should usually rush Revolver and what item you get next depends on how much you've farmed. Akali gets full Rylai's from 2 of her abilities, both of which are on a very short CD. Morde does not.
There are many ways to build morde. I'm sure Rylai's works with some players - others will prefer Lich Bane, or MS quints, or FoN, or getting red buff, or frozen mallet. A LOT of it is based on playstyle, so it's pointless to argue what's right and what's not on a champion this varied. Morde isn't Ashe, there are multiple drastically different ways to build him.
