Vladimir is one of the strongest top laners. However in order to make him one of the strongest you need a ton of skill with him. He wins a lot of matchups except when you are clueless about what you are doing.

Speaking of vlad, GMD, how have the new items been to him?

Rylai's is no longer core on him. And that's also one of the reasons he is played top rather than mid. Mid laners have roaming powers with their CC. Vlad doesn't have that which isnt a big deal as a top laner. Yorick, Olaf and Lee really lack that as well.

Vladimir is especially good with team comps with good CC. I think one of the only reasons why you wouldn't take him is because of his lack of CC until Rylai's Crystal Scepter.

I agree. I feel Vladimir is becoming undervalued because idiots don't know how to kite and die to Riven by facetanking her with Vlad. D:

    My preferred picks are:

Cho'Gath: Nearly unkillable to nearly every laner that isn't Teemo or some other hyper aggressive early game champion.

Warwick: Deceptively powerful laner, he's very hard to kill for most laners, and is great for singling out the enemy carry, be aware that he does not have much carry potential.

    Trundle: For those pesky Jaxs.

Tryndamere: Yea, I know. He's pretty weak, but he has some sustain and fares well against certain match-ups that aren't as aggressive, and can punish them for not killing him early. Becomes a monster with farm or jungle help.

TL;DR: I like anything with sustain at top.

Exactly, early aggression and high damage. Wilding Claw eats Cho. :/

Udyr also does very well against Cho'Gath because he is one of the few champions who has sustained damage output with one ability. Therefore, he is not countered by his silence, and Cho'Gath can't really kite Udyr because Cho'Gath is reliant on getting in AA range for Feast, and Vorpal Spikes.

Yorick has few (if any) counters, but counters many champs in return, so is usually a safe pick. Compared to other top-laners, I feel he lacks teamfight potential (in comparison only. He's still decent).

Irelia can fall behind but once she gets Trinity Force, it doesn't even matter if she's been feeding, she can make the plays in teamfights.

Jax is like Irelia, once he gets even one core item, he can rape teamfights and is probably one of the best (if not THE best) 1v1 duelists in the game. He's also one of the best farmers under the turret, so even if he gets pushed to turret, he can defend quite well.

Olaf is hard to properly counter during the laning phase - is extremely tanky and also deals a lot of damage.

Lee Sin is a reliable laner - good exchanges and farms quite well. Decent in teamfights as well. Can be built a number of ways.

Jayce isn't as strong as he used to be, but still a decent champ, imo. Between long-range poking and strong bruising, he has good initiating potential.

Cho'Gath is difficult to counter as well, good laning, adds good teamfight potential and great damage.

He has no escape abilities what so ever making him very prone to ganks from the jungle. Also, his dependence on farm is like no other, and directly impacts his damage output. He should never be picked before the enemy picks their respective top-laner. Furthermore, you should evaluate the pressure of the enemy jungler, if the enemy jungler is something like Master Yi then Nasus doesn't have to worry as much about jungle pressure. However, if the enemy jungler is Shaco, the jungle pressure is very high on Nasus and he cannot farm to far from his tower without the risk of dying.

Far too farm-reliant, imo. Easily bursted down if counter-picked. Only starts to pick up by level 6, and turns into a late-game beast, but late-game is always risky, since you might not even get there.

Very weak. Wins about no matchups and needs to farm for a long time to become useful. Even then, it's not guarantee you will actually win as he can be kited/cc'd easily.
I just play him for the skin and the voice acting :P

Yorick dominates top lane against most champions, and is a very safe pick. However, he is not very fun to play.

Irelia is the queen of top lane, and is very safe to pick, and not too hard to play.

Jax is a hyper-carry and can counter auto-attack reliant traders ( Xin Zhao).

Singed is just fun to play in general, but during the laning phase he is pretty weak until he gets some levels.

Kennen is very strong and counters any top laner with no gap closer ( Udyr)

Lee Sin is a very safe pick, and has high sustain and damage.

Cho Gath very sustained, and counters AD casters ( Talon) with his silence.

I agree but without a doubt he is very strong in teamfights, if played properly. A well played Kennen in the top lane is a huge, and annoying thing to deal with.

Yorick can be fun; however, his lack of mobility and skill-shots turn many people off. I am not saying I don't find him fun, but many people that I know do.

He is still a very safe pick but that's about it. Kennen lost his touch.

And I don't recall a single instance where Kennen took top lane in tournaments. More for normal play than anything else, imo.

Having fun is kind of a relative term in this case. I have fun playing Yorick top too.

play Garen a bit tanky on top lane :D
oh and.. Yorick is one of the best toplaner.. he counter many champs 'cause of his ****ing ghosts xDD

Saying "'cause of his ghosts" for Yorick is similar to saying "'cause of her ball" for Orianna. The soul reason behind Yorick's top lane dominance is his high harass, sustain, and trading. The only thing he really lacks is pushing power and escape abilities. Yorick doesn't exactly get countered in general. However, he can be prevented from shutting down your toop laner. If against a Yorick, your best options against playing against him are champions with high sustain, or pushing power. Udyr, Nidalee, Vladimir, Cho'Gath, and Irelia. All of these champions can sustain themselves rather easily, and can farm pretty safely.

Olaf, Jayce, Jax and Irelia are my favorites, awesome top laners with high damage and mobility :)
