Void Staff vs Abyssal Scepter

This might sound like a stupid question.

On ap carries such as or for example, when would it be better to build a over an > and vice versa?

Both are relatively cheap and give a decent amount of ability power. Once gives an MR Shred aura and magic resist, the other grants all your abilities % magic pen.

is better for damage almost 100% of the time. A lot of people run MR runes and eventually you can expect to face some magic resist items. It's actually not unheard of for both to be built, actually. Since the removal of , there aren't that many options for late game AP items. I've seen on both of those champions as well, and I've seen on Leblanc before as a last item.

will pretty much always be built on AP carries. It amplifies your damage to champions too much to be neglected.

Abyssal is nice when they have 50 MR / lot of magic damage, or your team has lots of magic damage too ^^

In terms of raw damage output on a personal level, Void is almost always better. Abyssals short aura range also makes it weak on some of the longer range APs. However, Abyssal can be great as it also improves the magic damage of your allies and provides you with a bit of personal tankiness.
