So lately I've been thinking about what I'd love to do on MobaFire, or check via MobaFire. Like making MobaFire a one-stop-shop sort of place for anything and everything League related. You can verify your League account with MobaFire, so I'm wondering whether that same process could be used to grab other data as well.

Champion Mastery
One thing I think would be neat is Champion Mastery. While Champion Mastery may not really reflect the skill on the player (think 2 million points Bronze Yasuo mains), at least the reader is confident in the fact that the author has played the champion extensively.

How I see Mastery used to define guides:

Speaking of defining guides, I can't be the only user who uses the footer champion links to search for guides. These footer links look so ugly and outdated compared to these.

How I see Mastery as Badges (obviously Mastery 7 only):

Champion Mastery is also something that could be displayed on the user profile. It would be cool (as I've said before in some other thread) if you could compare your mastery of champions to other people on MobaFire.

Quests
A long time ago Matt mentioned that he'd love to make a "wizard" that showed people how to use the Guide Editor/things around the site. He also mentioned a "progress tracker/meter" that would show at like 0% when you first join and fill up to 100% as you visited areas of the site and participated in stuff. I think that it'd be neat to have daily quests you could do, in order to get one-off points for the raffle. For example, the Daily Quest could appear at the top of the page and might be something like, "Comment on a New Guide. Reward xxx Raffle Tickets." Once the quest is completed, the prompt would go away and the user would be rewarded tickets. Quests could prompt members to do all sorts of things, like answer an unanswered Q&A, post in a thread, vote on a guide, reply to a comment, upvote a comment, give someone +rep, vote on the placement of a champion in the community tier list, comment on the discussion page of your favourite champion, verify your account on MobaFire etc etc. As you complete these quests, your "progress tracker" would go towards completion. Now, whether the progress tracker would be a leveler thing, or just a to 100% is up to you guys (as everything is), but it gives someone a sense of purpose. MobaFire is so big, sometimes it's hard to see what can be done here.

Achievements/Badges
This sort of ties in with above. But perhaps achievements/badges can be given to people (automatically) when they do things. At the moment, most active people have the yearly MobaFire badge or the forum-related one, as well as a ranked badge. I don't think badges would be worth less if there were more of them. Why not reward people with badges for publishing a guide and maintaining it for a set of time? For answering a number of Q&As?

Anyway, that's enough rambling.

Mastery

I like the idea of Mastery 7 badges for guides. I feel like it's not super necessary but it's a nice bonus for experienced players and encourages people to spam their champion a lot in order to have a more impressive-looking guide.

If you want the mastery stuff to exist as achievements (badges) as well, keep in mind that's a lot of images to be made and uploaded as well as making each achievement. Not to say it's not doable, but it takes time. There's also some people who play this game way too much and have mastery 7 on almost every champion. Does that person need to have 100+ badges? Seems like it might just be cleaner to have the marker in the guide listings and not add badges as well. I can't say I wouldn't sport a Nocturne badge though, so I'm a little conflicted about it.

As for displaying Mastery on the user profile, let's just say that's already been on our minds. ;)

Quests

Note that this is just my personal impression and doesn't necessarily reflect the overall opinion of the staff, but honestly this sounds kind of annoying. I was never a fan of progress bars when you join a site, especially because a lot of them involve actions that I didn't want to take (usually adding a phone number or something like that), leaving me with like an 80% completion on my profile forever.

Incorporating quests into the raffle system is kind of interesting, but front page visibility sounds a little too far. The nice thing about the raffle is that it isn't super in-your-face, but it's still easily accessible. If we were to implement raffle quests, I'd rather just have the objectives written on the profile above your tickets.

That said, I'm not sure how much variety we could have with the quests, especially if they're daily. The raffle's already set up so that people can contribute in the ways they enjoy best, so adding on specific tasks might not be very exciting after the novelty wears off. I'll get other opinions on this though, it's an interesting idea.

Achievements/Badges

Right now we have the year badges, rank badges, comment badges and Rep badges automated, which covers a lot of our existing automated checks. Guide-related badges is probably a good avenue to explore, though ideally I'd like to avoid cases where everyone gets the badge just by fulfilling a simple requirement. Especially if the criterion is score-related, I would definitely want to curb any potential vote cheating just to get the badge. We've already had some problems in the past because of the Top-Rated category in the guide contest.

Overall I'd say more achievements = good, but we'll have to give some thought as to what types of achievements we can add that aren't just clutter.

I'm pretty much about to go to bed but I wanted to give you my impressions for now. We'll talk more about your ideas and other staff members may disagree with me on things, so take what I've said here with a grain of salt. Thanks for the thoughtful feedback post, I love seeing stuff like this from you guys. <3

Mastery
Perhaps your top 3 Mastery 7s could be allocated as badges? It'd be cool to get a title or badge for being a champion "expert". I also think it'd be neat to be able to sort guides based on Mastery (and/or Rank too). So if you're stuck between reading two Diamond Twitch guides, but one guy has highest mastery and the other hasn't got mastery at all... it's easier to choose.

Quests
Well, by at the top of the page, I just meant those clickable news prompt things. But it definitely doesn't need to be in your face. On the raffle page itself sounds good. It doesn't even need to be individualised, really. Could be "today you gain double/triple/quadruple raffle tickets for voting/commenting/etc" that appears for everyone. It doesn't need to be attached to a progress tracker either, just seemed neat.

Awards/Badges
Agree the awards shouldn't be clutter. At the same time, having 4 awards displayed below your avatar now makes it more interesting to have other awards there. So having a variety for people to pick from (once they've earned the reward) will allow further differentiation between users, to display what they're most proud of.

If I think of anything else, I'll make a new thread. I love thinking about random stuff, and it's even better when they're implemented, but I know that there are limits and ideas don't necessarily translate well to actions ^^

Not entirely confident about the Mastery 7 idea showing on guides, for the very same reason you mentioned jhoijhoi, it doesn't really reflect skill and therefore, seems somewhat irrelevant. Another point is that some people simply don't bother to get Tier 7 tokens or don't have the Blue Essence to craft them in the meantime. I can see some guides getting more views/attention simply because one has a Tier 7 Mastery showing and the other one doesn't, regardless of the inherent quality of the guides.

As to the other points, they are quite neat ideas! I know I struggled my first time crafting a guide and some help would've come in handy.

^Well, you mention that some people don't bother getting Mastery 7, but if you're reading a guide, you'd hope the person has experience with that champion.

Fair enough, but although Mastery 7 directly translates into experience (since you play the champion a lot), it does not directly translate into useful experience or skill.

Imagine that this guy writes a guide. The man has nearly 5,000,000 points on Heimerdinger and over 2000 games on him, he's got A TON of experience, can't deny that. But it's not useful experience, quite on the contrary, he's erhm... quite bad. If his guide showed a 5 mil Tier 7 icon, next to other guides without it that are far better, it'd certainly get more attention (at first hand at least; the user can use their common sense to switch to a better one).

Sorry for using such a specific example, but it was the first thing that popped into my mind. To me it just seems as an exploitable way of false advertisement.

I have to argue that although the player might be bad, it doesn't mean they can't share their experience or knowledge. On reflection after a loss, I can look back and see where I went wrong, or why x didn't work when y happened. You don't need to be Master to share what you've learned playing a champion for 2000 games. For all I know the above Heim player is someone who plays with a mouth-piece as they can't move their arms. Or they have a ****ty internet connection. Or they play on a laptop with a trackpad. ANYWAY. My point was, even a broken clock is wrong twice a day. I don't think it's false advertising to show that so-and-so is Mastery 7 on z champion, because they've played them to such an extent that they've achieved S ratings in the elo they're in.

Well, regarding your first point, I don't want to say that if you're bad you shouldn't be allowed to write a guide (otherwise I'd be kind of shooting myself in the foot), but it sure is in MobaFire's interest (or so it would seem to me) to promote/showcase the good guides made by the community and this seems like it'd be a step in the wrong direction, even if minor. The amount of bad/incomplete/troll guides with high visibility on the site over the years has definitely taken its toll on some people's image of MobaFire. It just seems to me that this feature, if implemented, would quite possibly aggravate the situation.

Taking your clock example, it's like getting it from your grandfather who said "I have used this clock for years, it has never failed me", and then the clock is half an hour late. But you're pretty sure the clock is good, since your grandfather assured you that it was.

Regarding the last statement, I didn't say it is false advertisement (because many people with rank 7 Mastery are really good with the champion, no questions there), rather that it could be used as false advertisement by bad players as a way to promote their guides, as you said, even a broken clock is right twice a day; getting 4 rank S games is feasible for anyone.

This is my honest opinion, but I'd like to hear other people's opinions on your suggestion too.

Also, it's perfectly possible to get Mastery 5 or 6 on a champion playing one role and that can mean very little about the champion in another role. This EUW account has mastery level 5 for Kayle. I got that playing support Kayle exclusively when it comes to this account. If I then go write a top lane Kayle guide, do I deserve that mastery level 5 floating around on said guide?

Nameless I would actually say your Kayle experience would help you write a Kayle guide for another role as well. Sure, not all of it would transfer, but past the early game a lot of champions play the same no matter what role they're in.

I kinda like the mastery idea, because even though it has the potential to be misleading, I can also see it pushing people to get more experience on the champions they write guides for. That sounds like a positive outcome to me.

Also we'll still display verified rank, so people will see if they're opening a mastery 7 gold guide versus a Master guide and make up their own mind about which one to open first.

Similar arguments could be made against displaying rank. I could be a challenger author and write a guide for Urgot having never played the champion. It's possible for it to be misleading, but it's still a good feature.

Anyway that's just my opinion, still waiting to hear back from the other staff members on this stuff.
