lol my friend, who was uber obsessed with Minecraft can't stop playing Teraria. Apparently it's made more money than Portal 2 o.O
^ what he makes in Minecraft. Unfortunately Terraria doesn't seem to be the kind of game where physics can allow such creation. There are grenades that are similar to TNT, and the water system is far better (but honestly, the water only can flow down, as Terraria isn't 3D), you can keep the same main character no matter what world you load in (in Minecraft you can't keep items on your avatar, it's a per world basis thing)...
But Terraria has working NPCs, a good item building platform (items are suggested to you when you have the ingredients), the mobs are more numerous and are more like the mobs that spawn in the Nether (ie more dangerous).
The thing I dislike most about Terraria is that it's a 2D, platform style game, based on Minecraft. It's Minecraft with a better mobs, better biomes, better item building platform, worse screen size, worse image quality and worse creative building system.
I think it's a bit like Dwarf Fortress, what with building rooms for NPCs and "events" amongst other things.
