Looking to improve my Galio game. I play him as a sort of tanky/AP support. Usually get only enough armor to avoid getting gibbed, and then stack MR and/or AP wherever possible.

I want to find a way to squeeze CDR into my build. Resolute Gaze is an awesome spell, Bulwark is just plain overpowered, and his ult has a monstrous cooldown - CDR addresses all of this.

Currently, my build has been something like:

Doran's Ring -> Doran's Ring -> Mercury's Treads -> Aegis of the Legion -> Catalyst the Protector -> Abyssal Scepter/Banshee's Veil -> Banshee's Veil/Abyssal Scepter -> Force of Nature/Rabadon's Deathcap -> Open slot for wards at all times

I always leave a slot open for wards. I'm filling the support role, so it's my job to buy wards for the most part.

I'm planning on 9/0/21 masteries. The extra armor and MR would be nice to have, but I get an extra 3% CDR and the magic pen out of Offensive. Makes Resolute Smite better poke early on, makes my ult "stop it or die" later in the game.

Still need a good CDR item somewhere in there. Shurelia's Reverie is a fun item. It builds out of Philosopher's Stone, which will boost income (not that Galio suffers there due to his strong farming and his ease of racking up assists) and provide useful regen. The active ability is also very useful, basically being a brief super-Ghost for your team.

Frozen Heart is another option, especially if you're hurting for armor. Also provides a pretty sick aura to counter enemy right-clicker heroes.

Abyssal Scepter is mandatory. Galio uses the **** out of every bit of it. It provides almost 100 AP due to his passive, a big buff to MR, and an aura that significantly boosts his damage output, particularly vs people with little MR (carries.) Abyssal Scepter basically turns his ult from "annoying AOE taunt that kinda hurts" to "OH GOD STOP IT BEFORE HE FINISHES IT." Abyssal Scepter is to Galio what Frozen Heart is to Ryze and Rod of Ages is to Singed.

Been favoring BV over RoA. You don't get as much AP, HP, or MP out of the deal, but the spell shield helps out a lot, it bumps up your MR even more, it costs less, and if you can preserve it (or just time it right), the spell shield can result in a guaranteed ult. When that ult can do upwards of 1200 damage before resists at level 18, that's huge.

Aegis of the Legion is a solid item on him. It's cheap, provides AP through his passive, and provides much-needed armor. It works even better if he doesn't have to buy it (you can build Catalyst and then head right into Abyssal Scepter instead.) As useful as the aura is, I'm actually considering scrapping Aegis and building Glacial Shroud instead. Bonus mana to ensure you can spam and never worry about mana, desperately needed CDR, and a good chunk of armor. It's also cheaper than Aegis, which lets you start Catalyst earlier.

Thanks to Jsta for the sig image.

Not gonna read all this...but with Galio, you generally want an Abyssal for the aura + AP + MRes which = more AP

and a FoN for more MRes and AP

and BV for more MRes and AP

mercs ofc (hey look more Mres and AP)

and then 2 tanky items of choice to counter the enemies (most likely Sunfire for HP + armor and another armor item, so that you have super Mres, HP, AND armor)

Galio is a tank, not a DPS, not a carry, don't build him like that. Don't stack Doran's, that only sets you back when you aren't supposed to be farming (you should be going bot lane as a support tank); make sure early on you get HoG, and/or philo stone for the GP10. Farm when your carry is not in lane.

Don't get deathcap, too expensive for a tank.

Tanky tanky tanky, and remember, the tankiness gives you more AP anyways.

gg

These:

Item Sequence

Aegis of the Legion 1200
Sunfire Aegis 2700
Mercury's Treads 1100
Banshee's Veil 3100

Plus optional item at the end. Deathcap actually works. He'll have over 400 AP with that build+Deathcap.
I'm a strong independent black mage who don't need no mana.

My Galio build typically looks like...

Chalice of Harmony
Mercury's Treads
Banshee's Veil
Sunfire Aegis
Force of Nature
Frozen Heart

If the game lasts long enough and it's an AD heavy team I'm fighting I'll replace Chalice end game for Thornmail. If not I tend to just keep Chalice.

Is Abyssal necessary? Not really. I mean sure, it's nice, but I just like the mana regen that Chalice gives too much to squeeze out a little more damage over utility.

I'd say your only core items on Galio are;

Chalice / Merc / Abyssal

Core doesn't mean rush these (Only rushing the chalice and mercs probably unless you're in an AD heavy lane) but rather build them every game.

Sunfire seems like a good buy for the armor and HP, not really the magic damage as much. I would probably side more towards Randuin's but that's personal preference.

I'd drop the Frozen Heart it's counter productive for your ultimate. If you want an Armor item get Thornmail since you do you have Abyssal which lowers MR for Thorns magic damage, that and it goes nicely with your ult.

Hotshot's been playing a lot of solo lane Galio lately. You want to abuse his Bulwark to take minion attacks and heal up from harass - he's kinda like a Cho'Gath since he has a skill that heals, deals a lot of damage while staying tanky, has a 2 spell combo that clears creeps very quickly, and has a really powerful ultimate. Solo lane Galio is by no means not viable. Hotshot used it quite well in IEM.
