My friend's father would rather buy smokes than clothes for his children. That's pathetic. Smoking ruins lives. Especially if you're one of the addicts who smoke a pack a day.
I have asthma, so when someone smokes near me, I cough. It's really inconsiderate to slowly kill yourself in public and around others that could be harmed by your actions. Smoke all you want inside your own house, but if you're smoking near a food outlet where I happen to be eating, you will be asked to leave, and I am entitled to ask you to do so for fear of my own health. That's the law in QLD Australia.
Quoted:
The laws include:
* no-smoking anywhere inside pubs, clubs, restaurants and workplaces
* no-smoking in commercial outdoor eating or drinking areas
* no-smoking in outdoor public places such as patrolled beaches, children’s playground equipment, major sport stadiums and within 4 metres of non-residential building entrances
* no sales of tobacco products to children under 18 years of age.

Yea, that's terrible, but that's one rare case. I'm pretty sure the big majority of smokers don't do that.
There are many things worse than smoking. Don't act like it's the biggest and worst thing ever.
Also, my dad has asthma, so I know how terrible it can be, but there are still many things far worse.

I wouldn't waste my money even if smoking had no health consequences.
I wouldn't damage my own body by smoking even if it was free.
Why in the world do people still get into smoking? It can't all be peer pressure and self-esteem issues, it's way too common for that.
Act of rebellion perhaps?
EDIT: True Searz, there are much worse things. I've never considered smoking as anything remotely criminal (obviously it's legal, I just mean I don't hold it against people). I just think it's stupid. Even moreso when you do it illegally.

Thanks to The_Nameless_Bard for the sig!
Forgotten: I'm really glad you know smoking is harmful and I apologise if I have sounded rude in this thread. I'm sorry you smoke, and I wish I could understand why you continue to do so :( If you like to smoke, it's your prerogative, but I feel as if people who smoke are just committing suicide slowly. I'm passionate about the subject because my grandfather smoked his whole life and had many operations to try and extend his life, spending thousands of dollars he didn't have and leaving my grandmother as a widow before 80.
Smoking kills, and it hurts not only you, but the people close to you when you go to hospital due to lung cancer. And then you may get a lung transplant, taking away that resource from someone who didn't spend 30+ years filling their lungs with tar.

Actually, I would consider smoking if it didn't have any health consequences.
I wouldn't if it was free on the other hand.
But since it has both I'm not even remotely interested in it.
It's just a big fat bad idea, imo.
