I didn't find much of a difference from 29-30 personally. Same game, same idiots, just started playing smarter (which evidently has deprecated since I still suck). There were a lot more experienced players however, but it didn't affect me that much. It probably helped that I only played Anivia back then and was fairly proficient in her (for someone who only had 90 wins at the time or so).
I thought the jump began the second I queued in for ranked. I know it's like ranked scary, don't start, but I legitimately thought I was ready. 260ish wins?, played a few champs in each role except support (only Janna, which applies to today mostly) and thought myself good enough after playing with a then-1600 friend a lot.
My first game, I played Anivia (obviously) and went up against Brand. I had a friend jungle Cho Gath. 0 3 1. Very crushing defeat. We queued again, and still lost. It kept happening. S2 rolls by, and I had already decided to get better. I picked up some newer champions, got proficient at Brand, and queued with that same friend. I dropped to 1045 elo very fast. Again, very crushing for me. It wasn't that my teammates were good, or bad, or even my own skill - it was the other team, always. They always seemed so much more coordinated than in normals.
Ahri was released by then, and, obviously due to her assets and skillset, I bought her. Played her quite a few times, got fairly proficient with her - enough so that my normal elo quickly rose to 1600 according to lolmatches. I don't trust that thing, but it was obvious I found a new main. Played her in ranked and ignored my team, and my teams suddenly became so much more coordinated. It was very odd.
Uh, that derailed fast but the point is, ranked isn't so much about skill as it is about mindset, and that really messed me up.

Nah, it's about the mindset AND skill.

this thread has new and exciting ideas.
in all seriousness, I don't know how many more of these threads we can take. If you want to gain elo then get better at the game. Who cares how broken the system is or how you perceive it because at the end of the day you have to live with it. And no ones going to give you 800 more elo because you think that's your skill level, if you want to be 2000 elo then go out and earn like everyone else who did. It's a good life lesson, you're not entitled to anything, you're not entitled to 2k elo, you're not entitled to 1 million dollars, etc. just because you want it or you think you deserve it.
A great quote by Mark Twain that can be translated into league "don't go 'round sayin the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing, it was here first."
So in the paraphrased/altered words of Mark Twain; don't go round sayin you deserve to be 2k elo, you don't deserve anything, league existed before you started playing.
