I suggest you go look at some builds here in mobafire. They help you a lot on explaining each champ's abilities, what masteries to get, runes, what ability to max or get first, combos and many more.

But if you're looking for these champs and you like to play them:
Xin Zhao
Jayce
Jarvan IV
Jax

I am your man! Feel free to PM me for help

OK there are a few rules to follow.

Generally, if your champ gets damage from his/her abilities from ability power (ap) you buy items with ability power and (more often than not) mana or mana regeneration. Good examples of these items would be:

Rod of Ages
Athene's Unholy Grail
Deathfire Grasp
Morellonomicon
Rylai's Crystal Scepter
Liandry's Torment
Rabadon's Deathcap
and 90% of the time sorerer's shoes.

If your champ gets damage from his/her abilities from Attack Damage, you buy items with attack damage, attack speed, crit, or lifesteal. Prime examples of these would be:

Bloodthirster
Phantom Dancer
Infinity Edge
Black Cleaver
Frozen Mallet
Ravenous Hydra if you are a mele champ and Runaan's Hurricane if you are a ranged champ

If your damage comes from alot of basic attacks, grab Berserker's Greaves. If your damage comes mostly from spells (those champs known as "ad casters") get Ionian Boots of Lucidity.

If you plan on being a tank, grabbing lots of health, magic resist, and armor. Good items for these would be:

Warmog's Armor
Frozen Heart
Guardian Angel
Runic Bulwark
Sunfire Aegis
Banshee's Veil

and 90% of the time Mercury's Treads

There is a whole other list of items for support champs, but you probably won't be playing the meta with supports for a little while.

And the above mentioned advice of looking at guides is also a great idea, it helps new players out alot.

Hope this helps!

Some champions you might want to try that are easy to play:

Ryze
Ashe
Soraka
Gangplank
Garen
Warwick
etc.

Some you might want to stay away from
Draven
Karthus
Anivia
Nami
Nidalee
Cassiopeia
Syndra
Twisted Fate

generally these champions have higher skillcaps, meaning they're pretty difficult to play

when i started op playing the game i used some champs like them:

Garen

Master Yi

Ashe

Sivir

Warwick

and then i went to Ahri and so on.

my point is try some out maybe just play the first few games with a free to play champ till you get to know the game better. After that find out the way you want to play and yeah get champs after that.

anyways feel free to PM me aswell if you need any kind of help then i would glady help you out.
Let me know if i helped or just anything at all then a Rep+ will always be good

Why would someone posting on mobafire actually suggest that someone go somewhere else to get game knowledge? That's, like, a traitorous act... Didn't we use to execute people for that kind of thing?
