Champion Build Guide

[11.1] AP Shaco Support | by GMGZ2

By GMGZ2
Who Am I?
My name is GMGZ2 and I currently have 124k+ mastery points on Shaco. I started League of Legends back at S10 in late August and have been playing almost daily since. I am Silver 4 currently and will try to keep climbing using Shaco Support this coming S11. I will be updating this guide constantly with what I learn from my preseason knowledge and my future ranked climb.
Why AP Shaco Support?
Pros
+ Strong AP
+ Good Escape
+ High Counter Play Potential
+ Excellent Fear CC
+ Some Slow CC
+ Can Apply Kill Pressure
+ Boxes Act As Wards
+ Sweet Mobility
+ Boxes = Nice Wave Clear
+ FUN FUN FUN

Cons
- Squishy
- Bad AD
- Solely DMG & CC, No Sort Of Buffs, Heals, Shields, Etc.
- Oracle Lens Can Spot You While Invisible Or Your Boxes
- Takes Time To Master
- Bugs With Legend
W Max VS. E Max
Going W or E is not a matter of life or death, both starts are strong in their own way and it really comes down to preference.

W = I recommend going W first for your boxes for a few reasons: able to leash for red buff or blue buff, place early boxes in bushes, and have an increased fear CC earlier on which is one of the strong suits of Shaco.

E = I do not recommend going E first, I used to do it when I realized how useless my fear CC was and my DMG. I have noticed Shaco to be lacking in the DMG department right now and so I think AP Shaco Supports should prioritize using their boxes for their strong fear CC over all else. E can allow you to get more early hits in which means you will have the enemy be lower HP and also your support item will get closer to completion.
Gathering Storm > Scorch
After playing in S11 now for a while, games have been a fifty-fifty where they either end with a ff 15 or stay to end at around 40 minutes on about average. Do to this, I recommend taking Gathering Storm since after 10 minutes I'd say it becomes more useful than Scorch and only continues to become even more useful as time goes on. Scorch is only good for that first 10 minutes and still staying relevant before 20. However, after that I have found Scorch to put me at a noticeable disadvantage against others that had taken Gathering Storm, I have lost many fights because of it. If your games are not stretching out then you know what to do, if not then you know what to do.
It's Late Game, May I Get Rid Of My Support Item?
No. Most of the time that is the answer, unless your team needs the DMG you can go Rabadon's Deathcap or one of the other items depending on your build. But remember this, one big job as a SUP is to ward everywhere and get vision of the map. So if you get rid of the item that allows you to do that, you are now giving that up for more DMG. And if your team still needs the DMG and your team has no vision on the map, exchange your Oracle Lens for Stealth Ward. But if your team has fairly good control of vision and you can be sure that your team can keep it, I then don't see much harm in getting that other item.
Tips & Tricks
Shaco Support is different from playing Shaco Jungle, but the experience from playing Shaco Jungle is still helpful.

1. Always try and only use your E when your Arcane Comet is up, otherwise you will be missing out on potential DMG that you could of done.

2. Never try and tank anything, you will likely die if you get CC in any way so keep your distance and focus on poking, never melee.

3. Try and get your BOT to aim for the same player that you poke after you get Imperial Mandate. This is because, the enemy will be marked and your BOT will do extra DMG to the enemy.

4. Place boxes in bushes where the enemy will potentially go to soon.

5. Never waste your boxes, the cool down and mana cost is far to great to go wasting them.

6. Never waste your R, save it and use it only at good times or else you will be down a clone and a good amount of mana.

7. Use your teleport once you have ran out of mana in the early game and use your Teleport, because an AP Shaco with no mana is just about the most useless thing ever.

8. Save your gold and only buy items towards your mythical, do not buy anything else or else it will take longer to get Imperial Mandate which is a power spike for you. It's almost never worth to buy other little items before your mythical.

9. Your boxes act as Stealth Wards. You and your allies can Teleport to them and they can be used as vision.

10. Remember that you can use your clone to clear wards or activate traps, an interesting idea is to use your clone to clear wards and activate traps during his time duration and with his few seconds left, send him running towards the enemy and push in.

11. Your boxes can be used to block some shots and abilities.

12. Enemies can see you and your boxes if they use Oracle Lens, so be careful of that.

13. Using right-click + alt you can tell your clone to attack inhibitors. Also, your boxes if activated and in range of a turret or inhibitor will attack it.

14. Be careful of minion aggro, never drag minions towards your boxes. A possible idea is to use minion aggro to try and position minions away from your boxes.

15. If you are going to recall, place a box next to you or your clone so that you have protection if an enemy comes.

16. Control Wards will give the enemy vision of your boxes, but not you when you're invisible. Control wards can only see camouflaged legends and cannot see invisible legends.

17. You can leash using your boxes anywhere on the map, very handy to do at the immediate start of the game.

18. Always place down a box at the end of your Homestart Boost right after the start of game, usually you want to put it at an entrance to one of your jungles to help against invades.
