In this matchup, you always go Dshield/Second wind setup. In lane you want her to bait her charm so you can W her and chunk her or maybe kill her. If you burn her flash she is so easy to kill. try to poke her with E Q without taking damage, the trick is staying away from wave when its low. in level 6 it gets abit harder since she has 3 dashes. Build Hexdrinker and she can't kill you anymore.
Akali
Dshield and second wind setup is good here,Dblade if your confident. This matchup is a skill matchup but it's Aatrox favored. try to poke her early since her Q wastes alot of energy at rank 1. you can always counter her shroud by using W which reveals her in shroud, If you don't hit it, its better to disengage. in level 6 she can kill you if your not careful where you position, just don't get hit by E and you should be good. Build hexdrinker early if you want to avoid being killed.
Akshan
Dshield/Secondwind , you should be careful where you position in this matchup since he can punish you pretty hard in early levels espacially lvl 1. Akshan has pretty good early but you can kill him once you have tier 3 Q or lvl 5. If you don't see him in lane, Ping you team and dont over extend because he can trap you. Tier 2 boots are very good here early for chase and survivability.
Anivia
Dshield/Secondwind, this matchup is pretty straightforward. Anivia is a immobile champ which is very good for Aatrox, since champs like that can't really escape the chain Q without using flash. Just let her push the wave and punish her if she walks up Infront of her minions. in the midgame she can be a pain in the *** to kill if she has good peel. Force of nature is super good into her usually.
Annie
Dshield/Secondwind. Same thing as Anivia, she can't really walk up to you without getting punished. one chain Q combo is enough to kill her if she doesn't have flash or zhonya's. Hexdrinker is super effective against her.
Ashe
Dshield/secondwind/unflinch. If you somehow face ashe top, its not that big of a deal unless she has ghost and swift boots, then the matchup becomes abit challenging. dont go for cs early lvl(1-3 since her passive allows her to run most toplaners down. wait lvl 4 then start trading in the bounce, but be careful dont overextend to much because yo umight get run down by her ghost. she is very vulnerable to ganks so if jungle paths to you its free win. Teleport/Flash
Aurelion Sol
Dshield/Secondwind. I don't know who plays this champ, but in case you're against him. let him shove the wave, if he roams you can't do mush other then get plates and Ping your team. if he walks up you can chunk him for alot of hp or even kill him without flash or Zhonya.
Azir
Dshield/Secondwind, This guy can be a pain in the *** since most Azir players try to w q their opponent, but he can't really kill you unless you eat all the poke. try to poke him E Q if he goes for W Q. Try to make him lose his E, if he does you can run him down using ur W. in level 6, try to be careful of his insec, since he can set you up to gank.
Summs: Teleport
Camille
D-blade/Boneplating setup, In this matchup you should always rush damage first, try to dodge her W so she can't proc your boneplating, and try to poke her with Q if she tries to cs. try to always save your W so when she engages on you, you can W and kite away, or sometimes even kill her if you are ahead in the lane. The only problem is ,that she outscales you after one item and you really can't fight her after that except if you are super ahead of her.
Summs: Ignite(kill-pressure/risky), Teleport (Safer/sidelane)
Cassiopeia
Dshield/Second Wind setup, she can be easier in midlane since it's a shorter lane, its abit harder toplane since she can run you down easier, but the matchup stays the same. You dodge her Q, try to bait her so she uses her w and when she doesn't have it you can kill her easily, in lvl 6, it can be tricky, just be careful and don't underestimate her damage output. Force of nature/maw is super effective against her.
Cho'Gath
Starting Item doesn't matter really (dshield is good vs his poke) just don't forget Second wind. Cho'gath is a very immobile champ, so hitting him with your combos isn't difficult, he can be very tanky in late game, just dont get hit by all his abilities and you should be bing chilling.
Darius
Dshield/Bone plating is a must here. Darius is a very interesting matchup because you always have to be in the correct position against him, since if you miss position just a little you can be punished very hard. If you E Q too far in the lane he can pop ghost and run you down and kill you. try to Q him from max range and don't get hit by his E and you should be able to win this matchup. Tier 2 armor boots are really good here. Anti heal is a good option too, just don't buy bramble its so gold unefficient.
Summs: Ignite(kill-pressure/risky), Teleport (Safer/sidelane)
Diana
D-Blade/Bone plating. I don't see many Diana mid this season but if you are against one, go the setup above. if she goes all in on you, you win the fight 99% of the time except maybe if she is super ahead. try to bully her if she does for cs. if she is low enough you might be able to 2V1 his jungler. Hexdrinker Is optional if you want to secure the lane.
Summs : Teleport, ignite not needed
Dr. Mundo
D-shield/second wind. One the easiest match ups for Aatrox in my opinion. Aatrox is really good into him because he completely counter Mundo's passive with Q since, when Mundo loses his passive, he loses some %hp as well. Just dodge his Q and poke him and you should win lane every time. All in if you Chain him and his passive is down . Anti heal is super good into him as well.
Summs:Always Teleport
Ekko
Dblade/boneplating.You don't see ekko mid these days, ekko top is even rarer, but the matchup is simple overall. he doesn't have kill pressure nor that decent of a poke, but he is very mobile with passive/e, his scales really well and can os us if we dont itemize well.if he goes to fog he probably is using his w so care for that. Dont try to engage combo and if he wastes his e you can combo him and maybe kill him, but overall just an afk matchup, hexdrinker is very effective here early.
Summs: Teleport
Fiora
D-Shield/Bone Plating. Ah, the classic Aatrox counter, or what I used to think. This matchup used to be extremely hard. But, It gotten a bit easier. In this matchup you have to outsmart the Fiora. try not to get hit by vitals if you can and try to Q her without using your E. If she W, E out of the way immediately so you can dodge the stun. when her W on cooldown at the time. you can harrass her or even kill her. just don't disrespect her damage potential early and should be good. Never use W when she has her W. She outscales us, so be careful on the sidelane.
as much as i have to say it Bramble vest or any form of anti heal and tier 2 boots is highly effective here. Summs: Ignite(kill-pressure/risky), Teleport (Safer/sidelane)
Fizz
Dblade/boneplating. This champ is lowkey so annoying, thank god not alot of people play nor know how to play him. If you somehow are laning against this abomination, play for lvl 4. and dont throw Q's, save you combo for his engage, if he Q's you just auto him and hold your ground if he E's away then you can combo him quite easily since he has no cd, lvl 6 you need to be careful since he can chunk you quite abit or set up for a dive.
He gets very annoying after he get some cd and becomes almost impossible to kill unless he ****s up. Hexdrinker/Maw rush is very effective and makes matchup a piece of cake.
Summs: Teleport
Galio
Dblade/Boneplating. Generally Simple, you stat check him unless he is one item ahead or something happened in the game that made him a monster. its very easy to combo him since his E kind of griefs him. just don't underestimate his damage alot and you should be good.Overall a just farm and if he goes in you should win. just care since he can easily setup for a gank with his W. early Mercs is very good into him.
Summs : Teleport
Gangplank
Dshield/second wind. Aatrox favored for sure, but this matchup is highly dependent on the gp. he is either 1V9 or some solarbacca wannabe. gp usually gets push early if he does the barrel start from bush, so keep an eye out for that. try to test the waters abit by ego'ing his barrels, or you can even Q him when he tries to auto the barrel. lvl 1-3 you should not eat too much poke, and try not to fight much since he is stronger with passive and Q. lvl 4 you should be able to trade much more effectively. lvl 6+ you have alot of kill pressure. just make sure to not eat every barrel.
summs: (Teleport)
Garen
Dblade/Boneplating.Aatrox favored i would say, you most likely win lane, but lose side after 2 items. if he has phase rush he becomes very hard to kill so you have to play around its cd. lvl 1 you can zone with Q's fairly easily, just don't let him reach you melee and you gucci. lvl 4 you can start bullying him but he has alot of regen so prepare to land 10+ combos on him since his sustain/tankiness is that high. Garen outscales hard after 2nd item so be careful in the side.
Summs: (Teleport)
Gnar
Dshield/second wind. Generally a boring matchup, you legit just go tabis and he can never kill you unless you eat all his Q and W passive. don't fight his mega form since he can be opressive at times especially at lvl 6. Best time to fight him is after his mega form runs out and he has no E.
then you can look for a kill.
Summs: Teleport
Gragas
Dshield/secondwind (double tenacity is extremly good into him). aatrox favored, he is pretty much an afk matchup. only time you kill him is when he doesn't have phase rush and E. you win early levels just don't disrespect him, and be careful of his bomba combo(R into tower and yeah you know the rest). Mercs and double tenacity makes matchup pretty much free so keep that in mind.
