Who am I?


Hey guys!
Since the rework hit live servers, I haven't played Kayle that often, so please keep in mind that this is guide includes somewhat of theory crafting in regards of the build and possibly the laning. I am a Kayle Main/OTP on EUW, but haven't played her for the last two seasons. During that time I mained support. What is this guide for?


This "guide" is, as you can see, for the champion Kayle in the Summoner's Rift. It has a focus on Top/Mid lane and Support. I will try to keep this updated, but I can't promise being able to answer questions. Right now it's still somewhat of a WIP regarding the matchups (Threats/Synergy) and only contains builds. I will also try to add a laning phase part later.

Why do you like this champion?


I discovered that she's strong in a 3v3 match back in about the middle of Season 4. So I tried her in 3v3 first and brought her later into the Rift where I was successful. The rework was needed and while it might seem extremely weak, during laning phase, it is extremely strong if she gets out of laning phase.
Build - Top

AP Top/Mid

Items
Your starting item is a Corrupting Potion. With it you can combat Kayle's Mana neediness. During the time between you entered lane and your first back, you'll notice that Kayle is eating up alot of mana. Therefore you want to get a Dark Seal on your first back, in order to increase the Mana/HP amount you'll restore from the Corrupting Potion. You can also pickup Boots along with a Cloth Armor or Null-Magic Mantle - depending on your gold amount and matchup. Your first item will be Riftmaker. Once you have your first item partially done, you can complete your boots, which will be Ninja Tabi, Mercury's Treads or Berserker's Greaves - fully depending on your matchup. If your first item was Nashor's Tooth, then you want to get Guinsoo's Rageblade next, otherwise you'll get Nashor's Tooth and then Guinsoo's Rageblade. Depending on the way your game is being played, you can get either Rabadon's Deathcap or Lich Bane. Rabadon's Deathcap is good in games where the teams are straight up fighting eachother, while Lich Bane is good where you have to poke the enemy team. Then you can top off your build with a Rylai's Crystal Scepter or in case the enemy tanks have magic resist, then you'll want to Wit's End. If you're against an unfavorable AP matchup, then you might be able to get Wit's End and Mercury's Treads as first items, but then you would have to leave Hextech Gunblade out, or build it after Guinsoo's Rageblade. Otherwise you would just delay your core items for too long.

Runes
Rune pages 1-5 are for Top/Mid lane. I'll refer to them as page #1-5, so please check the pages at the top of the guide.

Page #1: This would be your default rune page, as it gives you sustain throughout the lane and you'll combat your mana expenses through Manaflow Band. You want to use Starfire Spellblade on the enemy laner every time your Manaflow Band is ready to be stacked. The stats would be used to get your Armor/Magic Resist, but you can change them to whatever you prefer.

Page #2: This page is using the same main tree as Page #1, just with the difference that the secondary tree is Resolve instead of Sorcery. With Resolve you'll be able to sustain a bit more during laning phase and your stats will be either double armor or double magic resist. This will make it a bit easier for you to survive laning. Additionally this is my preferred rune page.

Page #3: Kleptomancy is currently a popular keystone on Kayle. You can procc it for free with your Starfire Spellblade, similiar to Ezreal's Mystic Shot. I haven't tried it, so I can't really say much about this.

Page #4: This is a more tanky advance towards surviving and getting ahead in laning phase. You can stack up HP and whenever you get to the enemy tower, your Demolish will deal some more damage than the previous time. The reason for this is simply that Demolish scales with Max HP. Using this page would require you to go Hextech Gunblade as you don't have any healing besides Celestial Blessing.

Page #5: The last rune page would be one that focuses more on trading, but you would have to be careful since you, once again, don't have any healing besides Celestial Blessing. Trades might go well in the beginning, but might fail completely later on.

I recommend you use Page #2, as it would help you sustain and survive laning phase reliably.

Skill Order
Ability Sequence

Your first skill order is E>Q>W. Throughout laning phase, you'll use your E on the enemy and poke him down slowly. If they aren't careful, then you'll be able to kill them eventually. The Q will increase the slow and damage, which will be handy in close combat. Later on your Q will sadly fall off and won't be as useful anymore. Your W is maxed last since you would have the sustain through runes and/or Hextech Gunblade.
Your second skill order is Q>E>W. This would be your go-to skill order if you're unable to farm reliably. You would use your Q mainly to farm. Then max E, which would help you out in the lane. If the enemy is hugging their minions, then you can poke them with Q and hurt them with your E. Your W is maxed last since you would have the sustain through runes and/or Hextech Gunblade.
