Choose Champion Build:
Threats & Synergies
Just try not to die to him. Don't engage him unless you've poked him to below 30% HP. Focus on getting cs and use teleport to your advantage.
If you are good with your rupture, this should be an easy lane. If not, don't ever engage. Ever.
Call your jungle, silence her, then poke away with rupture. Try not to engage for to long.
You can't kill him, he can't kill you. Make use of your jungler.
Build HP as soon as possible and call your jungler. You should be fine once you have bonus HP.
Focus on cs. He simply cannot kill you.
GGWP. ALWAYS ban him.
I've never been against gragas, but he shouldn't be able to kill you. Don't overextend and you should be fine.
Spam your laughter as you face-roll her into oblivion.
I haven't played the new Irelia, but shes bound to be tougher than before. Just back off if she builds lethality/lifesteal.
Hold off until level 6, until then, farm. Once you hit level 6, you can go all in after poking him down a little.
He's ranged, you aren't. Just try to farm and poke him. He shouldn't be able to kill you once you get Warmogs and Stoneplate.
She doesn't even belong in the current meta.
You can't kill him, he shouldn't be able to kill you. Call your jungler.
Just stay away from bushes. Evil saplings. EVIL.
POKE HIM TO DEATH. SHOW HIM NO MERCY!
Farm. If he comes near you, go all in.
Why is Ornn there in the first place? He's just bad.
Ouch. Just poke him and NEVER go all in.
You're pretty screwed. I still can't figure out how to beat her.
Wait until his rage has just expired, then go all in. farm as much as possible.
NEVER EVER go all in. Poke her into oblivion and don't let her farm.
He's not very good. Try not to let him roam and get kills.
Meh. Just, have your jungler camp top and you should be fine.
You cancel his q with rupture. Don't get hit by q and you should be fine.
Poke. Poke. Kill. Get an executioner's calling and hold onto it if he gets too much lifesteal.
Farm and poke = Win
Wait for his ult to go down, then go all in.
He's ranged and tanky. Just try to stay alive and dodge his q. You must out-poke him to win.
Dodge his e at all costs. Do NOT let him farm. Poke him to death with everything. Go all in whenever he doesn't have ult.
Don't disappoint me :)
This guy is a major pain due to his shield denying your q. He will seriously mess you up early if you aren't careful.
Champion Build Guide
Welcome to my guide, I'm BitBot, and this is my guide to mastering Cho'Gath in bronze and silver. I've spent a lot of time on this guide, and will appreciate any feedback from ya'll. Cho'Gath is a fun champion to play, as he is very hard to kill - don't you just hate dying, because I do.
Behold my guide to never dying with Cho'Gath. I am constantly trying to update this guide and make it a little better every time. Thank you for reading my guide to tanking with Cho'Gath.
I will be updating this guide often to keep the info nice and fresh. Do not forget to check my Garen Guide
+ Can Get Very Tanky
+ Very Good CC
+ Threat to The Enemy
+ Overpowered with lots of Feast stacks
+ Good in Lane
Cho'Gath is a cc monster that is nearly indestructible late game. Once you get Warmog's Armor and Gargoyle Stoneplate, it is very hard for the enemy to kill you. In lane, it is easy to get Feast stacks off of minions until you hit 6 stacks. Once you have 6, you can use your teleport to roam and get more stacks. In lane you annoy your opponent a lot with your Rupture.
- Little Damage
- Not Great Early Game
- No Escapes
- Long Cooldowns on Rupture and Feral Scream
- Bad Against Bruisers and Mobile Champions
Despite being a late game behemoth, you do have a problem early game. You do little damage, and your cooldowns are quite long. There is also the problem of early game mana. You don't have any escapes, so once you engage, there is no way to unengage. Champs like Gnar, Fizz and Darius can also be a problem, as you can't easily hit them with Rupture.
Grasp of the Undying is a must for Cho'Gath as it grants him more max HP and healing every 4 seconds when attacking an enemy champion. The extra damage is just an added bonus, as it gives Rupture more poke. The bonus damage is also proportionate to your max HP.
Demolish is our next rune. We grab this because Shield Bash is completely useless on Cho'Gath as he doesn't have any shields. Demolish is just a little bit better than Font of Life because it grants Cho'Gath the ability to push lane. Demolish also does damage proportionate to your max HP.
Next we have Second Wind. We take this because the other runes offered are inferior to this in every way. Second Wind heals you for 4% of your max HP, which again is useful as you will be VERY tanky running this build.
We run Overgrowth because it gives Cho'Gath more HP if 8 Minions or Monsters die near him. Also, the other two runes are garbage on Cho'Gath.
Running Cheap Shot on Cho'Gath is very useful as you deal bonus damage to anyone with impaired movement or actions, which means you deal bonus damage to anyone affected by any of your abilities except Feast.
Ultimate Hunter is a necessity on Cho'Gath. Every time you use kill an enemy champion for the first time, it goes on a shorter cooldown. The max CDR is 15% on your ultimate. This will help a lot as Feast is your main source of strength.
Flash: Undisputable. You must have this spell. It is good for getting you out of some dangerous situations.
Teleport: You generally bring this spell 95% of the time. It is good for roaming once you have 6 Feast stacks.
Smite: This is the obvious choice for Cho'Gath jungle as it helps secure objectives and gives you some health regeneration early game.
Carnivore: This passive allows Cho'Gath to keep getting more and more HP/Mana every time he kills a unit.
Rupture (Q): Rupture is your main poke ability. It summons spikes where you cast, knocking up the enemy for 1 second. Use it while in a bush to make it more effective (more in the combos section).
Feral Scream (W): This ability does a lot of damage while silencing the enemy. This causes the enemy to not be able to cast any abilities for 1.6/1.7/1.8/1.9/2 seconds. however, it also costs quite a bit of mana. use this ability only when necessary.
Vorpal Spikes (E): This ability is good in teamfights and slows the enemy a bit, making it hard for them to get away. Personally, I don't see much value in maxing Vorpal Spikes first or second.
- Feast (R): This ultimate ability will make the enemy melee champions cry. Everytime you kill something with this ability, you gain more health. When used successfully, say "NOM NOM NOM" in all chat.
First, we want to max out Rupture. It is your main poking ability, and upgrading it lowers the cooldown and makes it do more damage. Next, we want to max Vorpal Spikes. Vorpal Spikes has good damage if you have good stacks, and stops the enemy from getting away while your team bursts them down. We want to max Feral Scream last for two reasons. One, it was a long cooldown, even when you max it. The second reason is that it gets more expensive as you max it. The reason we get Feral Scream at levels 12 and 13 is so that Cho'Gath has a good damage dealer and silencer.
For the bush combo, simply walk into a bush. Once in the bush, use Rupture on the enemy champion. Doing this makes the enemy unable to see your animation, so Rupture will likely always hit the enemy.
Basic Engage Combo
Use the Bush Combo for Rupture if possible:
This combo will effectively allow you to eat your enemy and get bigger:
Although it may seem that Doran's Shield would be the better choice for this build, Doran's Ring is a little bit better due to the health, AP, and mana regen.
We need Hunter's Talisman as it is the best choice for a mage jungle. Without it, Cho'Gath will run out of mana very fast.
Rush this item. It provides a ton of HP and health regen, which Cho'Gath needs for this build.
This is the best item ever invented for tanky junglers. It gives 300 health, which is nice. HOWEVER, the one thing that makes this item AMAZING is the 15% bonus HP.
The Gargoyle Stoneplate provides armor and magic resist, an excellent combo.
Cho'Gath also makes excellent use of its active. I have gotten up to 24k HP with this item's active.
This item is PERFECT for Cho'Gath. It has everything he needs: HP, HP Regeneration, Mana, CDR, Armor, and speed.
Good against AP and hard CC. We generally want to buy these most games.
Good against AD and ADCs. Buy these if the enemy has a fed ADC or an all AD team comp.
Buy these if you need extra mobility to catch the enemy.
The Sunfire Cape provides a ton of HP and Armor and has an AoE passive. Cho'Gath uses the AoE passive to damage all enemies in teamfights.
Similar to the Sunfire Aegis, the Dead Man's Plate provides a ton of HP and Armor but instead has a passive that makes Cho'Gath a lot faster after not attacking for awhile.
Again, it is similar to the Sunfire Aegis. The Only difference is that it has a little less HP and completely shuts down champions with high critical chance, such as Caitlyn and Yasuo.
We want this item for its HP and regeneration. The magic resist is a nice added bonus. The Spirit Visage synergizes well with Warmog's Armor.
This item is good as it provides health, mana, and magic resist. The passive gives health, mana, and helps your teammates with AP.
Gives decent Health an HP Regen. Adaptive Helm also gives magic resist and an anti-mage passive. Buy this if the enemy has a fed mage.
Farming with [cho'gath] is easy enough. Your objective is to get as much CS as you can as fast as possible. Try to outfarm your opponent. To do this, don't be afraid to use Rupture to last hit minions . If you find it hard last hitting all minions, at least stay in range of the experience. For example, if Jayce or Gnar are bullying you in lane and not letting you get CS, try to stay in range of the enemy minions that are dying.
Out of Lane
Out of lane farming is different. When out of lane, try to use Vorpal Spikes as much as possible. DO NOT use Rupture to last hit minions while out of lane. Rupture is much better used to poke away at the enemy. Getting CS is not as important out of lane than it is in lane. Try to use Feast on minions until you have 6 stacks from minions and non-epic monsters (not dragons or the monsters in the baron pit).
Whatever you do, DO NOT EVER use Feral Scream to farm!
Cho'Gath is a fun champion to play. Try not to follow this guide 100%, adapt to the situation. If you have any thoughts on how I could improve my guide, don't hesitate to leave a comment.

Have fun tilting the enemy team by being fricken unkillable!
