Introduction

Hey guys,
I'm LordBlazer and I am a Talon main. This is my first guide so enjoy! Any constructive criticism is accepted :) .

Talon- The Blade's Shadow

Talon is an AD Assassin who is usually played Mid lane or Top lane. He can burst down squishy enemies in the blink of an eye.

Why Talon?

Talon is very strong early game and can easily dive an enemy's backline, and safely get out during team fights. In lane, he has high poke and sustain too. He can counter a huge pool of champions and in the hands of a good player can wreck carnage. He has high mobility allowing him to get kills during roams.

Spells

Blade's End

Passive: Blade's End

Blade's End

Talon's spells Wound champions and epic monsters, stacking up to 3 times. When Talon attacks a champion with 3 stacks of Wound, they bleed for heavy damage over time.

This effect is like a mini ignite but only takes place once you auto-attack a champion after hitting them with 3 of your abilities in a short period of time.

Paired with Ignite this effect does heavy damage early game and usually grants you First Blood for the sweet extra gold.

Noxian Diplomacy

Q: Noxian Diplomacy

Noxian Diplomacy

Talon stabs the target unit. If they are within melee range, this attack deals critical damage. If they are outside melee range, Talon will leap at his target before stabbing them. Talon refunds some health and cooldown if this ability kills the target.

This ability is Talon's gap closer and sustain. Killing lane minions gives you some health which is useful for staying longer in lane. When Talon Q's an enemy within melee range, it crits. This is useful during duels with melee champs as it provides that extra damage to help win the fight.

Rake

W: Rake

Rake

Talon sends out a volley of daggers that then return back to him, dealing physical damage every time it passes through an enemy. The returning blades deal bonus damage and slow units hit.

This is by far Talon's most important ability. It deals a lot of damage while also slowing enemies when the blades return back to Talon. This is your main harass as Talon during laning phase. Use it to set up your all ins.
8.14 Edit:Rake now does decreased damage on returning daggers.

Note: Rake applies to stacks of Blade's End. Once when the blades hit the enemy and are moving towards them, and once when they are returning. This paired with Noxian Diplomacy procs your passive and deals massive damage.

Assassin's Path

E: Assassin's Path

Assassin's Path

Talon vaults over any terrain or structure, up to a max distance. This ability has a low cooldown, but puts the used terrain on a long cooldown.

This is what gives Talon his high mobility. Assassin's Path allows him to vault over normally unpassable terrain. It is good for escaping or even for getting into fights and then quickly getting out.

Shadow Assault

R: Shadow Assault

Shadow Assault

Talon disperses a ring of blades and becomes Invisible while gaining additional Movement Speed. When Talon emerges from Invisibility, the blades converge on his location. Each time the blades move, Shadow Assault deals physical damage to enemies hit by at least one blade.

Talon's ult deals damage when he disperses his blades and when they return to him or converge on an enemy.
The blades converge on an enemy when Talon either Auto-Attacks an enemy or uses Noxian Diplomacy on an enemy.

Talon can use his ultimate to either get in a fight or as a means of escaping due to the invisibility.
Pair Shadow Assault with Noxian Diplomacy and Rake to instantly burst enemies down.

Runes

Runes

Primary

Electrocute Electrocute Electrocute
Talon is a burst assassin who is reliant on his skills. He uses his many many abilities in quick succession to burst enemies down and get quick kills. Hence Electrocute works very well with Talon providing more burst and more damage.

Sudden Impact

Sudden Impact

Sudden Impact

Talon's Noxian Diplomacy and Shadow Assault involves talon leaping to a target and exiting stealth which proc Sudden Impact. The extra lethality helps deal extra damage to enemies with higher armor.

Eyeball Collection

Eyeball Collection

Eyeball Collection

This rune is useful as Talon has many items like Duskblade of Draktharr which help him locate and destroy enemy wards to set up wards of his own. Talon gains small amounts of AD when he destroys these wards, kills an enemy champion, or gains an assist.

Relentless Hunter

Relentless Hunter

Relentless Hunter

Takedowns on enemies grants you extra movement speed which is useful. As an assassin, you will be roaming the map looking for kills on enemies.

Precision

Triumph

Triumph

Triumph

Triumph, the rune which helps you survive fights with the slimmest amount of health. It helps you survive close encounters with enemies, which you otherwise would not have survived.

Coup de Grace

Coup De Grace

Coup de Grace

This rune allows you to deal more damage to enemies who are low in health. This means you can quickly finish your enemy laner who was ultra low but just sitting under tower, with less effort and risk.

In case you are facing an AP burst mage or you just want that extra shield against Magic damage, go ahead and use these runes as your secondary path:

Nullifying Orb

Nullifying Orb

Nullifying Orb

This is one handy rune which has saved me many many times from having to look at a colourless screen (I mean dying lol). It gives you that small but essential shield when facing champs with Magic damage. It is really useful and recommended when facing champions such as Ahri, Swain, or Ekko in lane.

Transcendence

Transcendence

Nothing much to explain about this rune, but it is really useful in reducing those spell cooldowns which may just save your life.

Items

Core Items

Duskblade of Draktharr : This item is one of your core items as an assassin. It provides a lot of burst damage which when paired with you other abilities deals huge amounts of damage. It's unique passive also allows you to sniff out wards and destroy them. The lethality helps with dealing damage to enemies with high armor.

Youmuu's Ghostblade : This is your second core item. It provides lots of movement speed, both in it's passive and the unique active. The lethality also helps.

Item Pool

Maw of Malmortius : This item is a situational item which is usually built when you are facing off against an AP burst mage like Ahri or Ekko.

Death's Dance : This item gives you quite a bit of damage with it's passive stats. Its unique passive's also gives you some lifesteal/spell vamp. It can be built as a last item but is not really that important to the build other then it's passive stats.

Guardian Angel : Guardian Angel is a very useful item as it's unique passive allows you to stay alive during teamfights and it gives you a wee bit of armor which is helpful.

Ravenous Hydra : Ravenous Hydra gives you a lot of Attack Damage and also provides Talon with lot's more wave clear. It's unique active helps during 1v1s or 1v2s. The Lifesteal also helps.

Edge of Night : This item contributed quite a bit of Lethality to Talon's build. It is quite useful and helps in dealing more damage. It's unique active provides you with a Spell Shield which can totally nullify aSINGLE ability from an enemy.

Black Cleaver : The Black Cleaver makes Talon a bit more tanky and can Shred an enemy's armor making it easier to get kills on enemy champions who are stacking armor. It's second unique passive - Rage also gives you a small burst of Movement Speed whenever an enemy is killed(including minions).

Combos

Note: Long Sword stands for Auto Attack.

Combo 1

This is one of your basic combos during lane. Your Q and W get three stacks of your passive while your auto attack procs it. Your W's slow also prevents enemies from getting away. The close range allows you to get both hits of Rake.

> >

Combo 2

This is a slight variation of combo 1. In this combo you throw your W first and then Q onto the enemy. This procs Electrocute and your passive. Based on whether or not you are in melee range, Noxian Diplomacy will deal extra damage.

> >

Combo 3

This combo is a combination of Noxian Diplomacy and Shadow Assault. The theory behind this is that you ult an enemy such that your blades hit the enemy on their way out to get on stack of your passive. You then Q your enemy to get the second stack and when the blades converge on an enemy you get the 3rd stack. Your next auto attack procs your passive.

> >

Combo 4

This combo utilizes all of your abilities other than your E. This is Talon's fastest combo and deals a lot of damage. Ths order is as follows:

> > >

Combo 5

One of the two combos Talon uses during teamfights. It allows him to survey and analyze the situation for a second before actually going in.

> > >

Combo 6

This combo is Talon's most damage dealing combo. The burst damage on this is insane and can easily pick out an enemy's backline with this.

> > > >

Tip: You can Flash immediately after using Rake to buffer it and gain extra range.

Playstyle

Talon is anAD assassin who has high burst and can easily destroy an enemy's backline thereby winning the teamfight and the game.

Talon has one of the strongest laning phases. Almost >60% of First Blood kills are taken by Talons. You have high poke with Rake and sustain with Noxian Diplomacy. You deal tons of damage with your combos and if you get ahead you can 2v1. Once you get ahead, you can roam Top or Bot and help your team. You can also help the jungler with objectives.

During Teamfights, it is your job to try and get their carry while the rest of your team engages. Talon has high mobility and stealth, so the enemies wont see you coming. Enter into the fight with your ultimate and quickly get out using Assassin's Path. Once your safe re-engage to help your team win fights.

However, if you go in all alone without your team's support; you will get focused on, and as a result you will be killed in a matter of seconds. Once you are dead, your team won't have as much damage as they would have if you were alive. So it is your duty to try and stay alive for as long as possible.
