Introduction
Hi there, my name is Magicschoolbus and I am a noname midlane player that thinks he is smart enough to teach someone else play Twisted Fate. So before we begin I want to ask you a quastion. Why do you want to play Twisted Fate? Let`s be honest, he is really bad at this current meta. I would like to say that Twisted Fate is the definition of a balanced champion. But the problem is that there is too much OP champions out there. Fizz, Katarina, Yasuo, you name it. But Twisted Fate is one of the most charismatic champions in the game, and thats exactly the reason why you should play him. So if you play only for the win go ahead and play OP meta champs, and not the good ol` Twisted Fate. If you still want to master the master of cards after all that let`s get started! :D |
Pros
+ No problem with mana during laning fase + Can easily put pressure all around the map + Annoying stun on a low cooldown + Has a waveclear + Nice amount of harass during laning fase + Ulti counters invisible champions + Very high damage on turrets |
Twisted Fate is well-known for his ulti Destiny. This skill allows him to gank almost any lane using his gold card from Pick A Card. Destiny also allows you to see every single champion on the map, so it may be useful against champions like Shaco or to get extra vision when one of the teams is doing baron. |
Cons
- Poor early game - No juke spells - Low damage - Card RNG can be fatal - Low AD makes it very hard to lasthit |
Twisted Fate is very bad because most of the champions destroy him during laning fase. Low damage on autos forces you to waste your W to lasthit minions leaving you with no defences. Also his Q Wild Cards is impossible to land on the non-stunned target because it`s just too easy to dodge. |
Loaded Dice (Passive): This ability is really good. Its all RNG based, but it give you extra gold for killing minions. It`s not Gangplank level of gold, but its still a really good passive ability especially for Twisted Fate so you can buy your core items a little bit more faster. |
Pick A Card (W): Now this ability is very ineteresting. It`s basically 3 abilities in 1. Blue card is good for farming and restoring mana during laning fase. I also use it for harassing my opponent and poking turrets, because it deals slightly more damage then the other two cards. Red card is used for waveclearing and harassing your opponnent through minions and turrets. (You can throw the red card on the turret and it will deal damage on an increased range around it) But the hitbox on it is SO WEIRD. Red card explodes in a circle around it but the visual circle is a lot less then the actual damaging zone, you have to keep that in mind using that ability. And the gold card is your main weapon against anything. It is your only defence tool and it is also your only ganking tool. Keep in mind that if you waste your W on minions to farm them ,champions like Katarina will jump at you knowing that you are defenceless. Also it is important to react quickly using that ability because the right card for a particular situiation (usually the gold one) may be on top of the deck, so be ready to use it immediatly. |
Stacked Deck (E): This skill is really useful during laning fase because it helps you farm a lot better. It also gives you slightly more damage harassing your opponent. |
Destiny (R): This is the most important trick up your sleeve. This ult allows you to gank or countergank any lane, teleporting you with your gold card ready. (You CAN and SHOULD start picking cards with your Pick A Card during teleportation) This ult makes you leave your lane giving your opponent a free lane and making you loose waves, so it means you HAVE to get kills and assists to make the gold you lost back. If you use the ulti and get absolutely nothing out of it, you put yourself in a huge disadventage, so use your Destiny smart and don`t blindlessly teleport to any teamfight. Also keep in mind that this ulti gives you 0 power during lanefase. It basically means that Twisted Fate is a lot weaker then any other midlaner at level 6. A qute little trick I can teach you is that you can teleport right underneath some squishy target (ADC for example) during teamfights. There is a high chance they will not see it coming, because they are just too focused shooting Rammus with Thornmail. |

The Big Stick That Is Useful This item is very useful because it makes us a bit more tanky. And we can rush it a little bit more faster because of our passive Loaded Dice. |
Magic pen boots It gives us magic penetration, that`s the reason we are buying them. You can also go with Boots of Swiftness for catching someone with your gold card, but I still prefer magic pen over move speed. |
Two orange swords that give us AP for some reason This is your core. With this item Twisted Fate actualy begins dealing damage. Your turret damage becomes really high and your gold card rips off a big chunk of health from some squishy target. |
Magic pen stick I really love this item. Its pretty cheap, but it gives you so much. It is basically a Last Whisper for mages, so I really recommend buying this item. |
Spooky Mask After last patch this item became OP, so I highly reccomend buying it. Twisted Fate with a good positioning will be staying in a teamfight for quite sometime, giving you full potential of this item. |
Big Hat That Gives A Lot Of Damage It`s a hat. It gives damage. A lot. What else do you need? (Nobody touches the hat) |
Big Hourglass That Makes Assassins Cry I prefer buying this item only when I really need it. For example I would not buy it against a Swain or Corki but I will definetly buy it against a Zed or Talon. |
Mask Yhat Protects You From Dirty Mages I always buy this item against a difficult AP matchup like Cassiopeia or Viktor, but it will make you do a lot less damage, so be smart about this item. |
Sword That Looks Nothing Like A Tooth But Riot Tells Me I Am Wrong I`ve been trying this item for a while, but it is really meh. I would be buying this item only to have fun in non-ranked games, or if my matchup is easy. (Which not happens too often.) |
A Big Gun That Apparently Shoots Cards At People This item is very fun to use, and it is also may be profitable. Increased range of an auto may be a big deal for Twisted Fate especially against champions like Caitlyn or Xerath. It is kinda troll item, but I reccomend you check it out. (Not in ranked games, though.) |
Spooky Magic Pen Book I dont think you will ever need this. Since you will be building Void Staff you dont really need any extra magic pen. Grievous Wounds is not that neccessary either, because you can simply take Ignite and the heal will not be a problem. But in case you really need that extra pen and Grievous Wounds, then, sure, buy it. |
Belt That Shoots Things And Makes You Go Wooooosh The same with Rapid Firecannon, you can pull some disgusting gold card shenanigans with it, but otherwise it`s pretty useless. But for me it was really useful in couple of games since it gives you HP and extra damage. The main problem of this item is that the Hextech Rocketbelt is good early on, and if you buy it early you postpone you core items such as Lich Bane and Rod of Ages. |
I Don`t Even Know What Is That Supposed To Be This item is really good against champions that rely on one skill to hit, like Fizz (his shark) or Vel'Koz (his E or Q). |
Magic Item That Makes You Go Fast I don`t really know about this item. I tried it a couple of times, but I still do not know much about it. I want it to be good, but it`s really not. It`s hard to get 100 stacksi if you don`t have some kind of Karthus or Yasuo on your team. And the reward for is not that insane. I still think this item is bad, but you may try it and prove to me that I am wrong. |
Book That Makes You Feed It may turn out really good because of your cross-map ganks, but we all know that the moment you buy this item having your Dark Seal stacked up to ten, you instantly non stop feed your enemy team. So be really careful about this item. |
While making this guide I thouht to myself, that maybe Twisted Fate is not that bad. Then I played a couple of games and realized I was wrong. Twisted Fate relies on communication and often in solo queue people just flame each other, making it very hard yo make a good gank. His damage it too low and he is just too weak against ganks. Does it make me quit playing him? Hell no. His slick attire and such a charismatic attitude makes him on the most interesting champions in the game, so who cares if he is weak? Play what you want to play and not what stupid meta tells you to play. That is my advice to you. |
Also I would really like to get any feedback if possible, I tried my best making this guide. (I can already taste the sweet downvotes). Thank you for reading this guide and may the Lady Luck be smiling upon you :D |
