Jax is a champion that is going to outscale you no matter what, but even though he scales, that doesn't mean his early game is bad. He has a playstyle that Aatrox doesn't really like, where he jumps on top of you making it hard to land your Q's. As long as you get off your combo and manage to back off, you should take him down bit by bit until you can fully all in.
Darius
You never wanna go all in against any Darius since he will just melt you. Poke him with Q when his E is down. Dodge his Q with your E. Chunk him down slowly and all in when you have a good health lead.
Camille
Most important thing is to dodge her E and you should be able to get a full combo on her since she has no more mobility pre 6.
Illaoi
Dodge her E and there's nothing to be scared of. Take short trades and take down any tentacles you can before a fight
Dr. Mundo
There's very little mundo can do when you combo him other than hitting you back. So you win as long as you get a grevious wounds item.
Gnar
He has his E to jump away every time you W since they have roughly the same cooldown. If you can bait or cancel his E or he uses it aggressively, you can do a full combo on him without him escaping.
Kled
Kled has grevious wounds built in his Q ability and has 2 dashes of mobility so he can be pretty hard to lane against. Try to dodge the Q or break the Q by going away. You can predict his dashes since he has a limited time to reactivate his dash and he always ends up on the other side of you.
Fiora
The worst matchup. She can parry any of your Q's or W and stun you. She can also easily dash out of your W. You have to bait out her parry by using Q but dashing away for example. Once the parry is gone, you can get a small combo in before backing off.
Cho'Gath
Very immobile champion that you can easily land your combo on over and over.
Garen
You have to make sure you poke him everytime his passive is up or you will never kill him. Pre 6 you can bully him and you should combo him as often as you can because after 6 he can quite easily all in you with his execute.
Gangplank
He can't poke you with his Q if your Q is up since you just Q him back and can also follow up with another if you have E. Depends heavily on if the gangplank can use his barrels well or not.
Irelia
Her dashes can be quite troublesome for you and make it hard to hit her, but you can also predict her dashes by using Q on your own minions that are low on hp. At 5 stacks you have to back off since she can just auto you to death.
Kayle
You want to bully her as much as you can before level 6. Constantly jump on her and don't let her sit in lane for free and scale.
Malphite
He's going to constantly poke you with his Q and run away. Before he gets any armor items you have to get a lead because if you don't it's going to be very hard to kill the big rock. Without his Q he's very immobile pre 6. So try to combo him everytime you have the chance to. But it can be quite a boring lane if you never catch him.
Mordekaiser
Dodge his E and you can stay safe at the perfect distance to poke him down with Q. Don't go in when has E available because if you get dragged in, you're gone.
Maokai
Maokai is a very immobile tank in lane that you can and have to harass early before he gets his tank items. He can dodge one of your Q's with his W, but that's about all he can do. You want to constantly all in until he's low enough.
Nasus
Nasus is extremely weak early on so you have to deal with him then. Poke him constantly and make his CS as bad as possible. He will most likely tunnelvision on CS which makes landing your abilities quite easy. He has a super slow that can make him a bit hard to all in. But poking him and forcing him out of lane is more than good enough.
Ornn
He can dash away, but most Ornns use their E aggressively which makes them very open to use your combo. He's going to deal quite a bit of damage back (for being a tank), but if you get a full combo off you will win the trade everytime.
Pantheon
He has no escape, but is pretty powerfull early on. Watch out for his empowered W and try to poke at a safe distance. He wins the all in early, but if you chunk him down he has no escape once you all in.
Poppy
Don't stay near any walls and don't dash recklessly into her because she can just press W and ground your ass. Poke her down until you can all in since she has no escape.
Renekton
He outtrades you in lane so keep your distance and poke him down with Q. Watch out when he has empowered abilities. Once he's used his dashes, you're open to use your combo in him.
Riven
Very mobile that can make it hard to land Q, but if her Q and E are down, make sure to punish her hard for it. You can outrade her early as long as you don't get hit by every single ability of hers.
Sett
Avoid his E and you can easily dodge his W. After he has blasted his combo, you can blast him back with your own. His passive gives him good sustain after a fight so you want to poke him every now and then.
Sion
Your own Q can cancel his Q. Once it's been canceled you want to look for an all in. Very annoying matchup for the sion since he just gets his Q canceled all the time.
Shen
Dodge his taunt and the trade should be yours since his W won't block your Q's but it will block your passive so watch out for that. There's never a point where shen should be able to ult in lane since you can easily cancel him.
Singed
Singed can't really do anything if he's hit by your Q. At times he can be a bit hard to catch but as long as you don't overstay in his gas you should win every trade.
Teemo
His blind will not stop your Q Damage so he can't really do anything once you all in him and land a W. You want to all in as much as possible since he will just sit and poke you all laning phase. Once he gets shrooms he can be a bit harder to catch, but same rules apply, all in him.
Tryndamere
Before level 6 you can poke tryndamere down and if he spins on you, place a W on him and position yourself better. You want to get a lead before level 6 because his ultimate can be a bit troublesome. If you can make him use his ultimate while surviving, he loses all of his threat and is easily killable.
Urgot
A lot of Urgot's threat early comes from his E. Don't get hit by his E and you should be perfectly fine to trade back. Watch out for his level 6. At that point you have to dodge his ultimate at all cost more than concentrating on dodging his E.
Vayne
Very hard to catch with her tumble and E. If she wastes either her Q or E you should go in for a trade. Your goal is just to survive and hope she overstays because she's easily gankable.
Volibear
You absolutely don't want to keep trading with Volibear. He wil just heal up the damage you did and do half your HP in return. Watch out for his E and poke him/keep him away with your Q and W. Once low, you can all in.
Yorick
His early presence is not that strong so poke him whenever he walks up. The cage is not that dangerous since you can just dash out. Can be a bit hard to land W since you're going to be swarmed by minions, but you don't wanna all in him so it doesn't matter that much. With his maiden you can't fight him, but without it you can look for a good trade and possible all in.
Wukong
Wukong is quite strong early so he can jump on you and do quite a bit of damage early on. Keep a safe distance from his leap and poke him. Matchup depends on how good you are at detecting his clone and/or he is good at using it.
Early game as Aatrox can be quite tough. One thing you have to remember is to not waste your Q's. Once your enemy walks up for CS, you can poke him with the first Q and then let it go on cooldown, unless he keeps walking forward. Once you level up you can play a bit more aggressive, poking with 2 Q's before backing off. Once you're level 3 you can look to get a kill with your W- Infernal Chains or at least chunk his health quite a bit so that he's forced to play passively. Watch your cooldowns. Especially your Q cooldown. once Q is on CD, play a bit safer and wait for it to come back up. A good top laner will always look to punish you when you're waiting for Q CD.
This is where Aatrox starts to shine. You should have some CDR items and gotten your R- World Ender. By this point you should keep harassing your opponent if he tries to CS and make him scared to walk up. When he suddenly walks up you'll know a gank is incoming and be ready to use your R- World Ender. If you hit your Q's properly you can easily take them both. Just concentrate on the lowest HP target and then once you've finished off one of them, you will extend your R- World Ender, giving you movement speed to kill or scare off the other champion.
In the late game you want to group up with your allies and try to force teamfights where you can dish out a ton of damage. You want to mainly focus their backline and also hit as many people as possible when you throw out your Q's.
Q-W-Q-E-AA-Q-AA
This is my main combo on Aatrox. I hit my first Q to knock them up, making it easier to land W- Infernal Chains. When they try to walk out of the W, i hit them with a second Q that knocks them up and prevent them from walking out of W. I usually use my E- Umbral Dash to gap close on my second Q, but it's not always that you need to if you're in a good position. And lastly we wait a split second for them to be dragged back by W- Infernal Chains and use the last Q into an Auto attack. You can change up the order and do W- Infernal Chains first if you're just out of range and need to slow them down.
AA-E-AA
Your E- Umbral Dash can cancel your first auto attack animation by doing a very short E and auto attacking again. This combo is very relevant early on, but later you don't find it used as much since you have lower cooldown on your Q
You use this combo when you don't have E available and know that if you land your next Q, you will kill them. Usually i combo the Flash with my 3rd Q. You can also use this combo when you have E available to get extra distance.
