About Me :)

Hi, I'm ImSoBoostedWhy. No, I haven't actually been boosted, and yes, I'm a Morgana main. I have more than 330,000 points on her and I've played every role extensively. This guide includes builds and the likes for Support, Mid, Top, and even Jungle roles.
I am currently in Silver III and climbing. Last season (S7) I got to Silver IV. I play League with friends from school on about a daily basis. They're all in the mid silver-low gold range with me.
I began playing when Aurelion Sol came out. I remember the first time opening my client and seeing his preview. In ranked, I play a lot of support as well as a little bit of jungle and ADC. I also play a little top every now and then.
I feel qualified to make a Morgana guide because she's my main, and I have had great success with her in games, compared to other picks. Morgana is a fantastic pick for almost every team composition because she contributes a lot of crowd control and damage (both focused and AOE), with the capability to clear minions and farm very quickly. Her passive (see "Abilities" chapter) provides her with sustain to keep her in the game after a fight. Morgana's abilities make her an invaluable asset during both teamfights and laning, being able to pin down an enemy to pick off, zone out the enemy team while you make an escape, or push lanes really, really hard.

Bad Builds

Those builds are big no-no's. If I ever see these in game I will probably disconnect. Let me tell you why.

Ugly Support
This build is gross because is sucks up to the typical S5 support meta, even when the items don't synergize with the champion or the other items at all. Always build to a theme, at the very least.

ADC Morgana
Don't even think about it.

Abilities



Passive - Soul Siphon

Morgana heals for a percentage of the damage done with her abilities (essentially Spell Vamp) when the damage is done to enemy champions, large minions (cannons or supers), or large monsters (Big red & blue, drakes, Baron, gromp, etc.).


Q - Dark Binding

A slow, long-ranged skillshot that roots enemies for 3 seconds and deals BIG damage.


W - Tormented Soil

An AOE field of over-time damage. Every time Morgana's passive is activated by this ability, her ultimate, or her Q, Tormented Soil's cooldown is reduced by 5%.


E - Black Shield

Morgana protects herself or an ally from any forms of crowd control and a little bit of magic damage. If enough magic damage is done, the shield will break.


R - Soul Shackles

Morgana chains herself to enemy champions in an area around her, granting true sight of enemy champs, slowing them, and dealing a bit of damage. After a short channel (during which everyone can still move normally), if enemy champions are still close enough (the chains break if they get too far), enemies are stunned for 1.5 seconds.

Summoner Spells

FLASH
Take this always, you'll need the mobility.

EXHAUST
For use as support or possibly mid. Use this in combination with your ulti to get that stun off. Exhaust also destroys the damage output of assassins and backline-divers.

SMITE
Obvious for use in the jungle. Not for use in lane.

IGNITE
For use in the mid lane against champs with healing or if you need that little extra to secure your kills.

TELEPORT
For use in the top lane.

OTHERS
Barrier
I don't find this to be efficient because you already have a shield. Other summs just work better in my experience.
Cleanse
So situational that I sometimes wonder why it's in the game. Your E is a free cleanse every few seconds. Not worth.
Ghost
Can help with your ult, but Exhaust has damage reduction for if they fight back. As with Barrier, other summs just work better.
Heal
Unless you're going ADC (which I do NOT seriously cover in this guide), you don't take heal. Some mid laners take heal as a crutch. We dont need a crutch. ;)
Clarity
Hands-down the best spell you can take in ARAM or custom Howling Abyss games. Mana = Spells. Spells = Healing (from passive). Therefore, Mana = Healing. Not to mention damage.
Mark (Snowball)
While I can see the appeal of being able to go in and ult quickly, Morgana is first and foremost a mage and not generally an initiator. Any other summoner spell that isn't completely useless would work better.

Rune Choices

Aery is great because you can proc it twice with your W if your enemies are braindead, and it makes your E so much better with the regular shielding. Manaflow Band is great because Morgana can poke so often with her Q and W, which quickly caps off the mana and gets you that sweet sweet mana regen. Always take Transcendence, because CDR is everything on Morg, and the longer an enemy can't play the game, the better. Gathering Storm is a steep scaling into the late game and helps to prevent falling off.
Alternatively, you could exchange Biscuit Delivery for Perfect Timing. This will make Zhonya's cheaper. I prefer the sustain from Biscuits though.
If you really want some tank, it is acceptable to take Resolve as a second path with Font of Life and Revitalize.
Patch 8.10 included a buff to Cheap Shot, which works beautifully with Morgana's Q-W combo (see below). If you feel that you need a little more oomph in terms of damage, take Domination as a second path with Cheap shot, then either Ravenous Hunter or Eyeball Collection.
Other runes don't compliment casters or are less efficient for a caster such as Morgana.

General Morgana Play

When playing Morgana, positioning is your best friend. As soon as someone steps our from behind a minion, Q them. W's best use is farming or abusing Spelltheif's passive. Her E is rather self-explanatory. Morgana's ultimate ability is the fun one. Be sure to hit as many people as possible, to give your team the best chance of getting that sweet sweet ace.

Farming is made very easy in lane when you max your W first. At W level 3, you can quickly clear the caster minions with one cast, plus maybe an auto if you're behind on building. However, be sure to be careful with your W placement as a support to avoid stealing CS or pushing the lane too hard.

Zhonya's Hourglass is probably the single best item for Morgana ever. It allows a player to use ult and not die, to escape, etc. Notice that the item is a part of every build's core. I cannot count how many times I've flash-ult-Zhonya's-ed to initiate teamfights or to simply stay alive. However, make sure your team is able to follow through if you decide to engage.

Several champions, including Blitzcrank, Ahri, and Morgana have a skillshot CC ability with a short windup time. It is possible to flash during this brief windup time to extend the range of this skillshot by the length of the flash. On Morgana, if your flash is on F, you would have to rapidly hit your Q and F keys, in that order. The timing has to be very fast. even if you do manage to skip the windup, don't miss. That'd be embarrassing, and a waste of a Flash.

There are settings that can be changed to make playing Morgana easier. SmartCast can help, although I'd never use it with your Q. Being able to use your E, on the other hand, without the moment it takes to click will help with those split-decision spellshields.

Beyond that, 99% of the skill anyone can get with Morgana comes from practice. I cannot stress the importance of getting a feel for ability cooldowns and enemy movements. Be sure to warm up with a couple blind picks before hopping into ranked games.

Combos

As with many other champion, Morgana's abilities synergize with each other to create powerful combinations of crowd control and pain. Item actives and passives can be abused to a Morgana player's advantage. Feel free to experiment and find your own, but here are some staple combos that every Morgana player should know:

Q - W
The most basic combo you'll ever see, start by landing your bind then drop your W on them. Remember that your Q is NOT a stun, so enemies can still fight back! Morgana's W can be placed in such a way that it prompts your enemies to walk into bad positioning, because they'll want to get off of your damaging ability as soon as possible, thus zoning your enemies.

Flash - R - Zhonya's
This is a great engage for teamfights, as you force your opponents to either target your allies and let the stun happen, or blow their mobility (Flash and other abilities) to escape. Either way,the enemy cannot escape your team, and they become the cleanup crew.

R - Q
Ult first? Sure, because it can make it easy to predict where your enemies might move in their panic. Enemies will try to engage or escape. Escaping could mean using Flash. Engaging could mean ignoring your ADC throughout the fight. Both scenarios are beautiful. If you can bind and kite, even better!

E - R
If you're playing against, say, Vayne or Tristana, they may try to knock you away when you ult them. Your spellshield can prevent their escape.

W - Q
Did I put these in backwards? Nope! As with using your ult first, your W can be used to make enemies break cover or panic, leaving them exposed.

Spooky Ghosts - R
As I said earlier, item actives and passives (but mostly actives) can be abused. Twin Shadows gives you a slow to assist with preventing enemies from escaping your ult. Rylai's will have a similar, more consistent effect, but the slow will be less prominent.

So I can definitely feel the lack of mana regen when I play, but like I guessed it isn't crippling. I will add some mana items as optional choices but I don't think they're absolutely necessary.

I'm a little mad. They nerfed Morgana's mana regen hard this patch and made her E more mana-consuming. This doesn't hurt her so much as to cripple her as a champion, but now it may be smart to invest in some mana regen items such as an Athene's or a Tear. I'll do some playing to see if I need to update the builds.

8.14 totally skipped Morgana, and I'm fine with that. I like the buffs and nerfs. Shout-out added and builds fixed up; tweaked some items, changed some notes, etc. Working on colors! Same basic ideas. As always, thanks for visiting the guide!

Re-wording of some stuff to clarify and correct some explanations. Patch 8.12 did't affect Morgana's E at all, and the items in these builds remain relevant, hallelujah! I was shook when I read "Shield duration reduced" but they missed Morg!

I'm kinda digging 8.11. New crit is kinda nice. Not much change around Morgana though. I've added a whole new chapter for abilities as well as some farming tips in the general play chapter. Removed Spooky Ghosts from the mid build, I never built it anyways. I'm astounded at the 275k views I've accumulated. As always, thanks for stopping by!

So 8.10 was a pretty nice patch, not gonna lie. Runic Echoes now has a nicer build path and the rune Cheap Shot got buffed. However, I strongly disagree with reducing jungle camp XP and punishing junglers with slow clear by buffing Scuttle crab so hard. Eh. Does anyone even read these updates? Thanks for stopping by if you do!

It's been two patches, so I made a few updates of my own. In short, I've removed Archangel's Staff from all builds (it wasn't that good), added matchups for Morgugle, and added a shout-out. As per usual, thanks for stopping by!
