Introduction to Urgot.
Introduction
Ideal Summoner Spells:
In the mid lane, most people run will run boring combinations such as Flash/ Ignite or Flash/ Heal. However, as an AP Urgot metamancer you will need to take superior summoner spells to beat out normie players.
Barrier: Barrier is an amazing tool on Urgot, the barrier will let you live through dangerous situations where your Purge and Disdain isn't enough to bail you out of damaging situations. You can as well use this summoner spell to bait out enemies early game who attempt to tower dive. |
Ignite: Early game as an AP Urgot, you will be spending your items on utility (such as Tear of the Goddess) to boost your endgame usefulness. Because of this your poke and damage will pale in comparison to other midlaners. So, you need ignite to do the damage for you. Ignite will also allow you to secure kills from other team mates. |
Teleport: sometimes in the place of a superior spell like Ignite or Barrier you may take this. Late game this spell will let you back door or to quickly assist your team in a fight. Although, you should consider running Unsealed Spellbook in order to make use of superior summoner spells early on. |
Urgots Abilities:
Like other champions Urgot has 4 abilities and a passive. None of his abilities scale with AP.
-
Echoing Flames (Passive): This passive gives Urgot a shotgun effect that shoots in a direction for each of his legs. This skill does not scale with AP.
-
Corrosive charge (Q): This skill shoots off a charge dealing damage and slowing them. The slow scales from 45-65% based on level. This skill does not scale with AP.
-
Purge (W): This skill slows down Urgot whilst giving him a shield and an auto firing mode. This skill does not scale with AP.
-
Disdain (E): This skill allows Urgot to do the dash and go out the way. If it hits an enemy champion it flings them backward and stuns them for a second. This skill does not scale with AP.
- Fear Beyond Death (Ultimate): As an AP Urgot you are going to be doing 0 damage throughout the course of the game. However, this ultimate will let you secure kills and make it look like your being useful.
Core Items:
Ap Urgot has 4 must-have items for tanking and doing superb damage lategame.
-
Seraph's Embrace: This item is a very gold efficient and strong item. Providing more than a thousand effective mana, roughly 140 AP, and an almost half thousand shield to add on top of your W and barrier.
-
Lich Bane: This item is key to giving you a fighting chance late game. Since Urgot doesn't have any AP scaling whatsoever he needs a Lich Bane to actually make use of his AP.
-
Rylai's Crystal Scepter: This item is very useful when added to his other existing items. This allows all of his abilities to slow enemy champions allowing you to keep all the enemies in check and discourage them from running away.
- Luden's Echo: similiar to Lich Bane, Luden's Tempest works off of AP as well. Meaning, your doubling the potential to deal AP damage as Urgot.
Urgot has 2 must-have Runes. The other selected runes are currently being tested so you can take whatever else you want. But make sure to take Aery and Stop Watch.
Summon Aery: Aery is an amazing keystone for Urgot, it will let you do additional damage when poking, and it will increase the shield you obtain from various sources. In the singular game I played and won as Urgot it helped me alot. |
Perfect Timing: Perfect timing is a very efficient rune for Urgot. Not only will the consumable stop watch allow you to outplay enemies. But it will save you a potential 250 gold if you decide you need to build a Zhonya's Hourglass. |
Pros
+ Decent Range and Early Damage + Good AOE damage with passive/ Purge + Pretty Tanky with shielding/health items + Ult is good for securing kills + Lots of peel for ADC late game + Ult can potentially Fear an entire team Urgot is a very versatile champion. Getting CS can come very easy since he has good base attack and two abilities which are expendable to get multiple minions at a time. Late game after you get your core items, Urgot will be a force to reckon with. Combining Barrier, Purge, and Seraph's Embrace, you can easily create a 1k+ shield to allow you to get large hits of Echoing Flames onto multiple champions, as well slowing them if you have Rylai's Crystal Scepter. Urgot can easily carry a teamfight if he positions and builds correctly. |
Cons
- Abilities dont scale with AP - Needs items to be useful - Doesnt do much damage - Expensive build - Middle Lane is almost required - Disdain is the only gap closer Although Urgot is a very good champion, he has a few downsides. Contrary to what this guide is about, none of his abilities actually work with AP. Because of this, you're going to find that you won't be doing much damage throughout the game. Not only that, Urgot as well has a lack of mobility, with Purge slowing him, and Disdain having a slight delay before going off. |
SummaryNow that you have read this guide and learned all about Urgot, I recommend you jump straight into ranked with this build and start climbing! :) |
