Not Updated For Current Season
This guide has not yet been updated for the current season. Please keep this in mind while reading. You can see the most recently updated guides on the browse guides page
Amumu is really annoying and dangerous to encounter in the jungle, but if he gets behind there is no way he is going to 1v1 you.
Camille
For some reason, Camille jungle seems to be a trend among some people, but your jungle clear is vastly superior than her's, so Camille's an easy counter jungle target. Despite that, you should avoid her in the late game, since she is such a late game beast and can go toe to toe with you.
Cho'Gath
You can deal tons of damage and heal even more since Cho is such a walking sack of flesh. I don't see a scenario where Cho'Gath can win Kayn in a 1v1.
Dr. Mundo
Much like Cho'Gath, Mundo is a walking sack of flesh. The thing about Mundo is that he can heal the damage you deal, so he most likely won't die. Buy executioner's calling and pray that the Mundo is bad or otherwise you can lose pretty easily.
Elise
This is a matchup based on the Elise's skill. If she is good, it's really hard to win against her. Despite that, she falls of pretty hard in the late game, especially if she builds full ap. Also, if she's really smart, she won't really be in spider form for too long so you can't get the Darkin form.
Evelynn
Charm's are really hard to play against as Kayn, and if the Evelynn knows what she is doing, she can be a real threat for you. But much like Elise, Eve falls off late game.
Gragas
If Gragas times his E right, he can cc you immediately when you get out of your ult. I recommend not ulting Gragas, since he can be a real pain in the butt with only that fact alone. Other than that, this matchup is easy peasy.
Fiddlesticks
Every champion with a fear is a threat to you already, but if that wasn't enough, Fiddle can silence you and suck you even when your inside him (that sounds wacky).
Ekko
If the Ekko is smart and plays around your ult and his own ult, he can really mess you up. He is also capable of doing intense damage to you even if you are a tank.
Graves
Graves's W can be really problematic for you if you decide to ult him and he places it on top of you. Being blind basically renders you useless and if the Graves has a black cleaver and a phantom dancer, he can kill you really easily. He also clears jungle really fast, so counterjungling is futile.
Hecarim
Hecarim is the only champion in the game who has a fear and can't go toe to toe with you. This matchup should be fairly easy unless the Hecarim is really good and smart.
Ivern
He will try and take one of your buffs, but this can be easily countered just by having your team guard the buff or using wards and catching him offguard. Other than that, there's really not much that he can do agains your counterjungling. You also shouldn't lose 1v1's to this guy. If the Ivern is clever however, he will use his bushes to not let you get the Darkin form.
Jarvan IV
This is one of those matchups that is more based on the enemy's skill than anything. You should save your e to escape his ult, but he can also cancel your e with his e+q combo, so be careful!
Jax
Jax is really strong at 1v1's by nature, but if you can dodge his e you should be able to atleast escape from him.
Kai'Sa
You can easily pick up a kill from Kai'Sa if you see her wandering in the jungle because of her unhealthy clear, but if you let her reach her 3 item power spike in the midgame, you can't 1v1 her without a full build.
Kayn
Better Kayn wins. It is just that simple.
Kha'Zix
Can be a real pain in the *** if he get's fed, but if he doesn't, you should be able to outscale him. Try to peel him off when he tries to assassinate your squishy carries and you should be good.
Kindred
If the Kindred is fed and has a lot of marks, you can kill her. However, as Kindred is in such a bad spot right now, it is really unlikely that she will get fed. She is also very risky with her ultimate since she can outplay you hard with it or just kill her whole team with it.
Master Yi
A fed Yi will be able to 1v5 your whole team effortlessly, and even if you were tanky, he can kill you really fast due to his kit. You can cancel his W and stall out his ult with your W knock up, but you can't really do anything else about him. He can also follow you through terrain with his Q. Despite that, if you can shut him down early, he shouldn't be much of a threat at all before late game.
Lee Sin
One of the only jungles who has better ganks than you. If the Lee is good, he can kill you without effort, even more so if he's fed. Avoid fighting him in the early game and try to countergank as best you can. After you get your form you should be able to 1v1 him, but it again depends on how fed he is. Lee also is a decent teamfighter since he can kick your carry into his own team and lose you the game.
Nidalee
A good Nidalee can destroy your whole game, since she is one of the champions who can gank better than you and 1v1 you at the same time. However, if your team is smart she shouldn't be able to much, so that's most likely the only chance you have of winning against her. Otherwise you should just either countergank and try to surprise her and pray that your team outscales her team.
Nocturne
1v1ning Nocturne early is not a good idea, since he can fear you, heal and block one of your abilities which already puts you at a huge disadvantage. He can also clear jungle as fast as you can and he has amazing ganks after level 6. The only point where you can actually win against Nocturne is in the late game since you have better teamfighting than him.
Nunu & Willump
Nunu is a weird one since some people underestimate him and consider him a meme pick but I actually think he is one of the better junglers in the whole game. He has healthy clears and he is really fast, so trying to duel him in the early game is pointless since he can get away in most situations. On top of that his E and ult render your E and ult completely useless so he can set up some easy feed from you to his team.
Rammus
He is too tanky for you to fight him in all stages of the game. It just comes down to how much better he can gank than you, because if he fails too many times in ganking, you can just take his jungle camps for free and win the game off that.
Rek'Sai
She deals surprising damage but after you get your ult you can fight her pretty easily. Her clears and ganks are pretty similar of what your capable of, so you should keep that in mind. Just try to countergank, gank somewhere else when she is ganking or try to take as much of her jungle as you can and you should be able to win mid and late game.
Rengar
Pretty much the same thing as with Kha'Zix.
Sejuani
She is too tanky for you to kill because of her passive, she has too much cc for you to handle, she has too much damage for you to survive and she has some of the best teamfighting capabilities in the game. Almost an impossible matchup for you to win unless you become crazy fed, and even then you may struggle against her. I just recommend dodging if you see this champ on the enemy team when your Kayn, it's not worth the risk.
Shaco
Entirely depends on how smart the Shaco is with his boxes and his ult.
Shyvana
You should not underestimate Shyvana. She is a monster. She can 1v1 you even when she is behind due to her kit. She can also take dragons really easily, so keep that dragon pit warded for some potential smite steals. I recommend trying to get as much of a farm lead against her, because she can go even with you in every aspect. The only thing you can do to prevent her from raping your team is just trying to W her after her ulti leap, since she is unstoppable during the leap.
Skarner
Skarner has a spammable Q and he has so many ways to lock you down without any trouble, in 1v1s and teamfights. I still don't think Skarner is as bad as someone like Rammus or Sejuani, but you should still avoid him.
Taliyah
Taliyah is ****ing broken due to her clear, but you can clear wolves and raptors, so you should use that to your advantage, as you can snowball the game off of having more farm than her. She still does crazy damage from a distance, so you should just try to kill her before she can kill your team.
Trundle
This troll has the ability to cancel your E, reduce your ad so your abilities do **** all and you heal less because of that. He can also steal your recistances so you die quicker when you try to engange. I'd say this is your worst matchup, so you should dodge if your not confident with Kayn.
Twitch
Just try to destroy him earky game, because if you can't do that, you and your team will be anally raped late game.
Udyr
I ****ing hate this guy for his passive and overloaded kit. Damage boost, DoT, Shield, Life steal, Movement speed boost, Attack speed boost, Stun and possible aoe magic damage, but I don't think theres any hybrid udyr players this meta. Still he's too overloaded in my opinion and can really mess you up. Despite all this, he's going to be more useless than a used tampon if you can **** him over early on.
Volibear
Out of all the tanks, Voli is probably the least lethal for Kayn (excluding Cho, of course). He has pretty bad dueling except when you let him slap you too much or fight him for too long. Voli doesn't really have a healthy or fast clear, so he's pretty easily counterjunglable, but DO NOT flash for him as Base Kayn unless you know that he doesn't have his passive up. Base Kayn can't kill him through his healing, so just wait for Rhaast before you flash for him.
Vi
I don't have a lot of experience in this matchup, but I know for a fact that Vi is not very good at the moment, so I suspect that she has pretty bad clears, so counterjungling is pretty much key. Yes, she can cancel out you E with her Q, but atleast it's a narrow skillshot. And yes her R can **** you up, but she shouldn't use it on you, she should use it on your carries. I don't think Vi is a threat to Kayn, but I could be wrong.
Warwick
I can't express my hatred towards Warwick as a Kayn player with words. Try to duel WW? Too bad, he has better healing than Rhaast, he has damage reduction and a fear and a suppressing ultimate, which can only be casted off you by someone else ccing him. You can never fight or counterjungle this guy, because he wins that kind of stuff vs Kayn without breaking a sweat. Ban or dodge when you see him.
Wukong
Contrary to popular belief, I think Wukong is easily beatable. Of course, he will be a monster if he knows what he's doing, but he has a really ****ty clear, like you win so obviously in terms of clearing the jungle. Just go to his top side buff after doing your red buff, he should be there with low hp and **** in his pants. You will atleast get a flash and you can possibly even kill him and snowball off that.
Xin Zhao
Like Warwick, I personally hate Xin Zhao too. I don't hate him just because he's a strong duelist, but I hate him because he surprisingly clears better than you, especially camps with only one monster, so that means that he can steal your red, your blue, your gromp and scuttle really easily, especially if he's really sneaky. The worst part is that you won't expect it and you won't know which of those camps he's taking. Also, if he catches you offguard, you are pretty much dead at that point. But thank GOD, his ult doesn't counter yours completely, so you will have a fighting chance when you get that and even more so when you get Rhaast.
Zac
Not even a challenge. There's no way you should lose to this guy, you outclass him in every category.
Pyke
Pyke is not a jungler, Pyke is not a support, Pyke is a midlaner. It's so obvious that he was desinged to be a midlaner, so people should play him in his rightful role.
Fiddle is still a hard matchup, but as SA Kayn you have the ability to oneshot him so wait till he uses fear and silence, then go ham on him. Otherwise you will be more helpless against him than Galio against Yasuo.
Evelynn
Just cheese her early, her early clear speed is weak as hell and your oneshot is faster than hers.
Ivern
Freelo. Just catch him offguard in his jungle and enjoy you free kill/snowball.
Graves
He can kill you fast and has the tankiness to survive your oneshot burst thanks to True Grit.
Elise
As with Rhaast, this matchup depends entirely on the Elise's skill.
Kai'Sa
Kai'sa will always be a crazy late game champion, but shutting her down early will most likely result in an easy win.
Kayle
Pretty much the same as Kai'Sa but just a tad bit harder, especially when she gets ult.
Kha'Zix
This guy can match your burst. It will come down to who's team is more fed.
Rengar
This guy can match your burst, but he can't gank pre-6 at all. You can win this matchup with ganking alone.
Lee Sin
He has better early game, you have better late game.
Shaco
This damn clown can **** you up really hard if your not careful. This is pretty much the same thing as with Lee, but this guy can dodge all your burst with his R and he can terrify you to render you useless in teamfights. But this matchup mostly comes down to how good the Shaco is with Shaco.
Master Yi
If you can **** him over in the early game, you should just finish the game before 30 minutes, but after that amount of time he will have items and can duel you with ease, especially since his W makes him take reduced damage, which is just stupid.
Nidalee
This matchup is pretty much freelo as well. Most Nidalee's below diamond don't know how to play and clear with the champ properly so counterjungling is key.
Taliyah
Still has crazy clears and crazy late game poke, but now you can oneshot her.
