Champion Build Guide

Aatrox Build | Challenger

By Kurtdenstore21
Tips
One of the most important things in the game is farming. It's an easy and safe way to get items and carry the game. You can see more about wave management in the bottom of the guide^^

Other things that might help you climb:
Focus on your own mistakes not your teams mistakes
Don't use the chat, it will only distract you
If you die a lot then buy more pink wards to prevent ganks and look at the minimap more often to see if you can find the enemy jungler. If you see the enemy jungler botside, you can play aggressive without the risk of getting ganked.
Introduction
HIGHLIGHTED VIDEO

Hello guys this is my Aatrox guide. I have been playing since season 2 and have been Challenger the last 4 seasons. I got 2 accounts in Challenger at the moment and I'm trying to get my 3. smurf to Challenger. Right now I focus only on toplane where I play Tryndamere most of the time. You can join my stream if you want, would love that^^ https://www.twitch.tv/kurtdenstore21. Aatrox is played a lot in high elo so you should come watch my stream and maybe you are lucky to catch me against a Challenger Aatrox - Aatrox is really strong atm so you should try him^^

This is my Challenger accounts

This is my greatest winstreak of all time in ranked

This is 2 of my smurfs
Summoner Spells

SUMMONER SPELLS
-
FLASH: Aatrox should have flash every game, because I believe that is his best summoner spell, it helps secure kills and survive ganks.
IGNITE: Ignite gives you more kill potential early game. But most Aatrox players play with TP. It depends on your playstyle, so you have to play Aatrox and test the spells^^
TELEPORT: Teleport is the most common summoner spell on Aatrox and it helps him with TP flanks and getting back to lane faster. If you freeze the lane and are winning you can deny the opponent a lot of gold by tping back to the frozen lane. But again you need to figure out if you want to use ignite or tp. I would recommend you to go tp.
Starting Items
Doran's Shield: Doran's Shield works against every single matchup. This is the start item most Aatrox players go with.
Doran's Blade: This is the aggressive start for Aatrox. It depends on your playstyle if you want to play aggressive go Doran's Blade and defensive go Doran's Shield (you can still play aggressive with Doran's Shield though). I would recommend you to go Doran's Shield if enemy toplaner is a range champ and then test Doran's Blade against melee toplaners(if you want to test Doran's Blade). So figure out what works best for you and go win some games^^ (I would take Doran's Shield if you are still learning)
Core Items

Core Items
-
Caulfield's Warhammer: You should get Warhammer as first item because it gives really good stats to Aatrox and it's a cheap item. 25 Attack Damage and 10% Cooldown Reduction for only 1100 gold.
Ninja Tabi: Ninja Tabi is really good if enemy team got AD champs because it gives 20% armor and it blocks 12% of the damage from basic attacks. If the enemy team on the other hand got many ap/CC champs then you should get Mercury's Treads instead.
The Black Cleaver: The Black Cleaver is the first full item you should get it gives 40 Attack Damage, 20% Cooldown Reduction and 400 Health, these stats are really good on Aatrox. It also have 2 UNIQUE passives the first is after dealing physical damage to an enemy champion that reduces their armor by 4% for 6 seconds. This effect stacks up to 6 times for a maximum of 24% armor reduction. This means even if the enemies are stacking armor then you will still deal damage to them.

The second passive is rage and rage gives you 20 Movement Speed for 2 seconds after dealing physical damage. If you manage to kill a unit or receiving an assist on a champion that has any amount of Black Cleaver armor shred, then you get 60 Movement Speed for 2 seconds instead. This means that its easier for you to stick to enemies and hit your q's.
Death's Dance: Death's Dance gives us a lot of Attack Damage and 10% Cooldown Reduction^^. We also get 2 UNIQUE Passives, The first passive lets Aatrox instantly heal for 15% of all physical damage dealt, this means your abilities as well as your basic attacks heals you. The second passive stores 30% of all physical and magical damage received, and is taken as damage over time true damage instead, dealing one-third of the stored damage every second. This makes it much easier to survive burst damage.
Sterak's Gage: Now it's time to get Sterak's Gage and this item got a passive that grants 50% base attack damage as bonus attack damage. It also gives him 450 Health which combined with Death's Dance makes Aatrox really tanky.

He also have a passive that gets activated if Aatrox take 400-1800 (based on level) damage within 5 seconds. This passive grant him +30% Tenacity, and a shield that starts decaying after 0.75 seconds based of 75% bonus health. This item is really good in teamfights to keep Aatrox alive.

Guardian Angel: Guardian Angel is your next item it gives you 40 Armor and 40 Attack damage, great stats for Aatrox. It also comes with an awesome UNIQUE passive that let you restore to 50% of base health after taking lethal damage. The item only cost 2800 totally worth. It's really good in teamfights where you are the frontline, so even if you die you are able to get back up and help the team.
Youmuu's Ghostblade: The last item that you should get is Youmuu's Ghostblade. This item gives you attack damage, lethality and cooldown reduction. It also comes with an awesome passive that lets you move faster out of combat and with another passive that lets you gain 20% movement speed for 6 seconds.
Runes
  • Precision
  • Precision: I take Precision to increase Damage and Healing.
  • Conqueror
  • Conqueror: PASSIVE: Basic attacks or abilities that deal damage to an enemy champion grant 1.2 − 3.6 (based on level) bonus Attack Damage or 2 − 6 (based on level) Ability Power (Adaptive) for 2 seconds, stacking up to 5 times, for a maximum of 6 − 18 (based on level) bonus Attack Damage or 10 − 30 (based on level) Ability Power (Adaptive).
When fully stacked, 8% of your damage against champions is converted to true damage and you heal for 8% of the pre-mitigation damage dealt. The buffs refresh upon dealing damage to enemy champions with attacks or abilities.
Damage-over-time effects and ongoing sources of damage will grant one stack / refresh them only once every 5 seconds. Melee role Melee champions stack duration is increased to 8 seconds. This is really good on Aatrox because he deals more damage and he heals more.
  • Triumph
  • Triumph: PASSIVE: Champion takedowns, after a 1-second delay, restore 12% of your missing health and grant an additional Gold 20. This is the difference between living or dying in many cases so great rune!
  • Legend: Alacrity
  • Legend: Alacrity: PASSIVE: Gain 3% (+ 1.5% per Legend stack) bonus attack speed, up to 18% with 10 stacks. This helps Aatrox deal more damage.
  • Coup de Grace
  • Coup de Grace: PASSIVE: Deal 8% increased damage to champions below 40% maximum health.
  • Domination
  • Domination: I take domination to get more healing early mid and lategame.

  • Taste of Blood
  • Taste of Blood: PASSIVE: Damaging an enemy champion heals you for 18 − 35 (based on level) (+ 20% bonus AD) (+ 10% AP).
    Cooldown
    20 seconds
  • Ravenous Hunter
  • Ravenous Hunter: Heal for 1.5% (+ 2.5% per Bounty Hunter stack) of the damage dealt by your abilities, on-hit effects and items, up to 14% at 5 stacks. Benefits from Heal power Heal Power.
Earn a Bounty Hunter stack for champion takedowns, up to one per unique enemy champion.
Abilities
PASSIVE
ABILITY
Deathbringer Stance (Passive): INNATE: Aatrox periodically empowers his next basic attack to gain 50 bonus range and deal 5% − 12% (based on level) of the target's maximum health as bonus physical damage on-hit, capped at 100 against monsters, and healing him for the bonus physical damage dealt.

Deathbringer Stance's cooldown is reduced by 2 seconds whenever Aatrox hits a champion or large monster with a basic attack or an ability, doubled if he hits with the edge of The Darkin Blade. The cooldown reduction for The Darkin Blade applies only once and prioritizes for the unit hit by the edge.

Q
The Darkin Blade (Q): ACTIVE: Aatrox swings his greatsword in the target direction, striking enemies in a line. The Darkin Blade can then be reactivated twice within 4 seconds, with each cast refreshing the timer. The second cast strikes enemies in a cone and the third in the target area. There's a 1 second cooldown between each cast.

Each strike deals physical damage, with minions taking 50% − 0% (based on level) reduced damage. All units take 25% increased damage on the second cast and 50% on the third.

Hitting enemies at the far end of the first two casts and the center of the third deals 50% bonus damage and knocks up enemies for 0.25 seconds, doubled to 0.5 seconds against monsters.

W
Infernal Chains (W): ACTIVE: Aatrox smashes the ground in the target direction, creating a chain that stops on the first enemy hit, dealing physical damage, doubled against minions, and slowing them by 25% for 1.5 seconds.

If Infernal Chains hits a champion or large monster, they are chained to the impact area. If the chained enemy is still in the impact area after 1.5 seconds, they are dragged to the center and take the same damage again.

E
Umbral Dash (E): PASSIVE: Aatrox heals for a percentage of the non-periodic damage he deals against champions.

ACTIVE: Aatrox Dash dashes in the target direction.

Umbral Dash resets Aatrox's basic attack timer and can be cast during his other spell casts without interruption.

R
World Ender (R):
ACTIVE: Aatrox unleashes his true demonic form for 10 seconds, fearing nearby enemy minions for 3 seconds, and gaining bonus movement speed, decaying over the duration.

While transformed Aatrox gains increased size and bonus attack damage, and receives increased self-healing.

With each enemy champion takedown, World Ender is extended by 5 seconds, refreshing its effects, up to the original amount.

His ult is changed so he doesn't revive anymore, however now when his ultimate is active he receives more self-healing than before. The cooldown on his ultimate is also shorter than before^^.
Minion Control
I would recommend you to study this video because wave management/Minion Control is one of the most important skills in the game. If you master this you will climb!

Aatrox Lore
“I must destroy even hope…”

~ Aatrox
Once honored defenders of Shurima against the Void, Aatrox and his brethren would eventually become an even greater threat to Runeterra, and were defeated only by cunning mortal sorcery. But after centuries of imprisonment, Aatrox was the first to find freedom once more, corrupting and transforming those foolish enough to try and wield the magical weapon that contained his essence. Now, with stolen flesh, he walks Runeterra in a brutal approximation of his previous form, seeking an apocalyptic and long overdue vengeance.
