Laning

Don't be super aggressive. Just wait for the right moment to go in. make sure to get blue as often as possible, Yi uses a ton of mana it will go very quick when playing aggressively.
you want to build defensive for first item because with the combination of your W and the defensive item you have great sustain. also buy potion to save some mana.

Mechanics/ tips and tricks

Use q (Alpha Strike) to dodge and negate damage, targeted abilities and CC. W can animation cancel double strike. use W (Meditate) to negate massive lethal damage like Zigg's ult, Jinx's ult, etc... Alpha strike resets turret agro this is useful for diving. You can use Alpha Strike to hop walls.

Team fighting

Try to 1v1 in team fights, by that i mean to fight people who are caught out or have "reasonable" distance between them and the rest of their team. Never engage because Master Yi is very prone to hard CC. try to clean up as much as possible.
