Annie
Big bear clawing you dead isn't the nicest option to start the game. Deals ABSOLUTELY too much damage, which stops your cs. I like to ban her most of the time.
Jax
Jax jungle comes in quckly and effectively, stunning and dealing damage. They also can come in early to help you, which is a great thing.

- Pros and Cons
Akshan is definitely the best champion you can imagine. He is centered around his basic attacks, which means less mana is going to be spent in mid than with many other champions. Akshan might not be the best champions in the early game, but i can assure you he is definitely not the worst one either. He has his E and W, which are going to help moving around swiftly, and then the very personal boomerang. One of the most recognisable things in Akshan in his Ultimate.(Amongst the swing, of course). Akshan is very good in early game, amazing just a bit later if you get your farm well and maybe get even some kills. I highly recommend trying Akshan in some other lanes too, like top or botton. |
Hello, i am JG_diff, an Akshan player in every lane and role. Don't be irritated about my name, i just couldn't figure out how ot change it after making guides from other lanes than jungle. I've been playing Akshan for a long time and now i wanted to make a guide here, as seemingly Akshan doesn't have really a lot of *good* guides, explaining everything throughout the game. Now i wanted to make one to make sure you will enjoy playing Akshan longer (if you are new players), as i liked really jumping from one champion to another when i started, because no guidance was available for many champions, which leaded to me not maining any champion in frustration of not knowing how to play. Now i've been switching champions less frequently, and Akshan is one of the champions i've been playing throughout the past few years. Go on and enjoy the guide! |
Doran's Blade | Doran's blade is my pick to go with, as other options like Long Sword start or Doran's Shield start are not usually that good. If you start with Long Sword, it won't give you the extra 80 hp, which might come in handy. Tho it can be crafted to Kraken Slayer. Doran's Shield can be taken if your enemy is fully hard countering you. Still go usually with the Doran's Blade start |
Item picks are extremely important to every champion out there in the game. Although, with Akshan, it's easier with items. That's because Akshan's damage is centered in his basic attacks, and that is why most of the item picks are a bit modifiable. Here i am still going to show you my personal favorite picks throughout the game. |
Kraken Slayer | Kraken Slayer is my personal favorite pick here. It gives you very useful stats, but also its great Unique Passive which gives you extra 50(+0,4 per AD) true damage per every 3rd hit. It also empowers your other legendary items attack speed by 10% as its Mythic Passive. If you pick Kraken Slayer, you have to concentrate on picking also some attack speeds to use the mythic passive. Some people also pick Galeforce or in some situations even Immortal Shieldbow, but i don't like using those options very often, although Galeforce is a great pick against some type of enemies, Veigar or Vex for example to catch them easier. |
Berserker's Greaves |
Berserker's Greaves is the best boot |
Blade of the ruined king | Blade of the Ruined King is great item pick in general, and it scales with whatever item pick is your 1st pick. It gives you great stats amongst its even greater Unique passives, that give you bonus damage and stacking bonus damage. Sometimes i also like to pick Stormrazor or at some points even Wit's End as my 3rd pick. |
Infinity edge | Infinity Edge is a great pick for Akshan here, as it scales really well with Kraken Slayer's mythic passive. It also gives you 35% extra critical strike damage if critical strike chance is already at least 40%. That is why you can't take Infinity Edge as your first pick, because it won't be helping you as much without its passive. |
Navori Quickblades | Navori Flickerblade are one of the must-take options in my opinion for Akshan. It works similarly to Infinity Edge, as it gives you its unique passive if you are at 40% critical strike chance or above. Its unique passive grants you ability cooldown reducements and extra damage for your abilities based on your critical strike chance. |
Lord Dominik's Regards | Lord Dominik's Regards is one of the best picks for Akshan here, especially in the late game. It really depends on the situation, but in case the enemy top or tanky jungle champion got fed, Lord Dominik's Regards is coming handy in slaying bigger tanks like Mordekaiser, Cho'Gath or Tahm Kench. |
Flash | Flash is a nice backup even while playing a great mobility champ like Akshan. Some people prefer using Teleport here, but i don't really like it though i've tested it and won the games i played with it, because i died at least twice during the game ONLY because i didn't have Flash |
Ignite | Ignite is my personal pick as my secondary summoner spell with Akshan mid. Of course if you want, you can take also Teleport secondary, but i guess if you'd include Teleport in the game, you'd replace Flash with it instead of Ignite, because this is very important to you, especially during the early game and the laning phase. |
Akshan throws a boomerang that deals damage going out and coming back, extending its range each time it hits an enemy. |
Press The Attack + Resolve runepage
Press The AttackPress the Attack is probably the only working pick here. Every runepage ever done for Akshan starts with PTA, or in some cases Fleet Footwork, which maximises the movement speed and mobility, but i see no sense in using that. |
Presence of MindPresence of Mind is the best pick for Akshan as it grants you 15% back of your maximum mana after scoring a takedown. This is in my opinion the best pick out there, although it doesn't really matter as you don't usually use TOO much of your mana. |
Legend: AlacrityLegend: Alacrity is the pick here i prefer while playing Akshan as it gives you your precious attack speed, 3% plus extra 1,5% per every legend stack you gain. |
Coup De GraceCoup de Grace is the best pick for you while playing Akshan. It gives you extra damage to low health champions. If you'd play in top or if you just get an off-meta champions against you with lots of HP, you might want to concider taking Cut Down as it gives you extra damage against champions with more max health than you. In that case, you should also include Lord Dominik's Regards in your build earlier |
Shield BashI prefer using Shield Bash while playing Akshan. Though sometimes i pick other options like Overgrowth, if i even pick the Resolve runepage. |
Bone PlatingBone Plating is your pick right here, (if you even pick the resolve runepage) as it grants you shielding for your enemy's 3 next attacks, if they have already damaged you. |
Press the Attack + Sorcery runepage
Press the AttackAs said already, Press the Attack is the best pick for Akshan here, as it maximises the damage and how quickly can you deal it. Fleet Footwork could be used in some, really odd matchups but in most cases it's not neccessary. |
Presence of MindPresence of Mind is great for you and the best option for Akshan, as it grants you 15% back of your max mana after 1 second delay when you score a takedown. Not that you would have a bad mana situation, but you still might need this. Triumph is another good pick, but i still prefer this. |
Legend: AlacrityLegend: Alacrity is the best pick while playing Akshan, as already said before, because it gives you 3% more attack speed and 1.5% extra attack speed per legend stack. You can gain them up to 10 stacks |
Coup de GraceCoup de Grace is my personal pick here (as said) because it gives extra damage to low HP champions. When playing in top or against tanky champions i like to sometimes pick Cut Down and Lord Dominik's Regards as my 2nd or 3rd item pick. |
Manaflow bandManaflow Band is the best pick here, because if you decide to pick Sorcery as secondary, the first picks might not affect you. I see Manaflow Band here as the best option, as it gives you more permanent mana which might just come in handy |
CelerityCelerity is the best option here, as all of your movement speed boosts are impaired by extra 7% movement speed and you gain 1% extra movement speed. I prefer sometimes using Absolute Focus as it gives you extra AD, but i see that as no use in the late game. |
Press the Attack + Inspiration runepage

Legend: BloodlineLegend: Bloodline is an alternative pick i like using when i go with the Inspirationas secondary runes, because it gives you lifesteal, which might come in handy when you don't have health or armor from Resolve or anything. |
Coup de GraceCoup de Grace is my personal pick here (as said) because it gives extra damage to low HP champions. When playing in top or against tanky champions i like to sometimes pick Cut Down and Lord Dominik's Regards as my 2nd or 3rd item pick. |
Magical FootwearMagical Footwear is the best pick possible for Akshan as it gives you the basic boots at 12 minutes. It lowers the rim to buy boots secondary, as sometimes i find myself in a situation where i'd like to skip boots and go for the next item picks. |
Biscuit DeliveryBiscuit Delivery is the best pick in here, because it gives 3 biscuits: one at 2:00, one at 4:00 and the last one at 6:00. Consuming a biscuit restores mana and health, which can let you stay more farming in the lane, or even save you life and precious KDA. |
Matchups
|
Big bear clawing the sh*t out of you isn't the nicest thing you could imagine. Annie deals absolutely too much damage and can even win you at cs. Don't go for bad and risky trades as you might not win them. |
Yasuo isn't te easiest enemy to play against. He won't deal as much damage as Annie (at least in early game) but he will win you in cs. Also be aware of the tornado, as after his 6th level he can deal a lot of damage with his ultimate |
Irelia is one of your worst possible matchups, as she can easily win you at CS and even kill you if you get stunned by her E. Don't play too aggressively when low on health against her |
Kassadin is the best enemy you could imagine. He is going to lose every fight against you, and you can just poke him. Just be aware of the enemy jungler babysitting the mid lane as Kassadin is going to feed you ultimately otherwise |
Akali is going to lose to you hard in the early game, and you're also supposed to win her at CS. Just don't go into stupid trades and feed her and you should win your lane easily |
Malzahar is one of your counters, but still winnable one. He has better early game than you do, but good farming and maybe even few kills grant you the victory. |
Anivia is extremely lethal and will probably win you. Still, i don't like to ban her because of her pick rate. Sometimes the worst happens, sometimes it doesn't. |
HeimerdingerIs not the best pick against you. Be aware: he can still deal a lot of damage with his gadgets. Try to play aggressively against him, but not too risky. |
Lux can be dealing a lot of damage with her abilities. Good thing is that early game she will be out of mana often, which gives you free farming time. Just don't get stunned, or you might find yourself being ganked, as lux has a good gank setup |

Early Game
In early game, you are going to farm a lot. Basically that should be easy against any matchup.
If easy matchup
If you manage to get an easy matchup like Azir or Vel'Koz, you definitely should go in for the trades and fights early. When you gain level 2, swing in with your e, throw your q and start auto-attacking the enemy. He will have to recall or otherwise he will end up dead.
If hard matchup
If you manage to get a hard matchup like Annie or Anivia against you, i recommend farming and trying to gain the cs lead. In my opinion not fighting is better than dying, so i truly recommend calming down and choosing the "not fighting"-option, or your teammates are going to be toxic. (Especially if there is Twitch in your team)
If medium difficulty matchup
Medium difficulty AKA 49-51% winrate champions like Heimerdinger or Lux. Those are usually still winnable easily early, just go in with your E often OR throw your Q, attack him and escape with your E before he gets to do something. Usually that will be enough for them to get frustrated because that is pretty annoying move to do.
Mid Game
In mid game you probably already have a couple of items with you which means you'd already deal some damage. But here comes the catch: You do not deal it very quickly. No, not yet. You should be concentrationg on using your W and E, as those grant you the opportunity and advantage to deal the damage without getting killed.
Late game
Late game is going to be pretty easy for you as Akshan, because he really will be just swinging around and onehitting the enemies. If the situation is like that, you should buy navori's quickblades, but if you are the only one fed, you should maybe concider buying the Guardian Angel. You won't still be a crazy tank killer, so if somebody like fed Cho'Gath surprises you from a bush, you really want to get further from him. Basically nothing else
Late game wards
Here are some examples of good ward placement later in the game |
