Threats & Synergies
In the Renekton Matchup you need to have ignite and win level 1 all-in, if you can't fight level one because he got his rage sooner, just stay under the tower until level 6. At level 6 you can all-in with ignite if he uses w or q in a bad way. It's the worst matchup for riven. Get plated steel caps if you are having trouble.
This matchup is kinda similar to Renekton's matchup because you need to outplay level 1 to win it, you should fight her when she has no passive, and you should take her bone plating off first. After that, you can win 1v1 level 1 if you fast q fast enough. Otherwise, you need to play with the cooldown of her passive and her W. Anyways you out scale her in the late game so playing safe is not a bad idea as well.
Most people think that Garen is a threat to Riven, that's wrong. Riven wins the matchup if well played, what you want to do is using quick trades as your advantage, you E his Q, and do a quick trade like auto W Q and go back. You can only all-in Garen to kill him if he has no W. Also, for this matchup you take TP.
Skill Matchup. You need to play with her W cooldown, bait it with a fast trade like Q W, E out of her W, something like that. Also, you should run executioner's calling early vs this matchup, and you should be able to win 1v1 level 6.
This matchup is either very hard or very easy, because you can destroy her in lane because of you high mobility to dodge her spells, but if you make a mistake, and she gets 1 kill, it's going to be tough to deal with. Get Executioner's calling if you have trouble.
This is one of the toughest matchups for riven because Kennen has a lot of stuns and can just E out your trades. Here you need to go for mercurial boots and hex drinker early if you want to get a chance to kill him.
Make sure you don't fight him level 1 and 2, after level 3 you can do a lot of quick trades and the matchup is pretty much easy. Another advice I can give is keep the wave frozen on your tower, so he can't trade you back. If you have problems get Plated steel caps
This one you can only trade after level 3, you need to do short trades and in order to make an all-in you should bait his E first, and dodge his W with your dashes.
Really tough matchup if he's good, because his dash has the most priority in the game, try to not use your 3rd Q if he has his E.
This matchup is basically dodge his Q, and make quick trades. You should all in level 6 when he has his E on cooldown.
Good Darius are hard to beat because they don't use their E for a gap closer, they use it to cancel your 3rd Q. What you want to do is level 1 if you both have ignite, and he starts Q, You can all in and you'll win if you dodge his outside part of the Q. Otherwise, you should do quick trades where you bait his E, Then you go for an all-in.
Level 1 you never fight Camille, she has a shield and her Q that makes her super strong level 1. For this matchup, the easiest way to win is freeze the wave on your tower and do quick trades. When she has no E, You can all in, and you'll win.
Just dodge her q and after that go for a trade.
This is a tough matchup if the GP is a good player. Because he can just poke you down and a good GP will take steel plates against you. You want to start level 1 with Doran's shield and E, so you can block his poke, wait till level 6 and remove is bone plating, after that just go for an all-in.
I would say it's a skill matchup, depends on the wave, If the wave is pushing towards her, you win the trades and all in, If the wave is pushing towards you, you lose the trades, because she has minion advantage and can one shot your minions to stack passive.
The secret to this matchup is pushing early waves and make it bounce back, then you freeze it, and you can pretty much deny her from farming. At level 6 you can't do quick trades, just go all-in on her.
Malphite should go grasp against Riven because arcane comet can get blocked by Riven’s E, here you should get mercury boots instead of Ionian, and try to do extended trades vs him with conqueror.
Same as Kayle, push wave to bounce and freeze it, you NEED to kill Nasus before 6,If you don't, you will lose lane and maybe the game. Get Executioner's calling.
Level 1 bait his q into your minions, so he pushes the wave, you start trading at level 3 at your tower with quick trades until you can all-in him. If you have problems you can get Executioner's calling and Plated steel caps
Skill matchup but better for Riven. Just sidestep his Q and remove is shield, then you want to try to give a little of poke before going for all-in. If you have problems get plated steel caps
Here you just need to dodge his E and play with his Q, If his Q doesn't hit you, and he has no shield, you'll destroy him. Also, you hard out scale him after level 6.
Dodge all outside parts of his Q and when you all-in, make sure he has no W. Get Executioners calling.
Really hard to beat a good Cho'Gath, level 1 he wins if he starts E, and after that he has a silence to stop you from trading. You want to do extended trades and all-in on him when he has no Q. Get Executioners's calling.
Jax is useless against Riven if you have your wave on your tower, quick trades to bait his E, and go for an all-in and GG.
Don't fight until level 3,don't even try to farm because he will jump to you and one shot ya. Just wait level 3 and put the wave frozen on your tower, and you'll be fine. Level 6 if you have Executioner's calling you're fine to all-in.
Get Executioner's Calling and do quick trades until you can all-in. He can't play this matchup.
Same strategy as Kayle and Nasus, push and bounce the wave to freeze on your tower. Bait his W and you can all-in.
This is an easy matchup as long as you play with his E and get Executioner's calling.
This matchup is easy in low ELO but hard in high ELO. All you have to do in this matchup is to either bait his Q and then go for an extended trade on him. Or you can just make quick trades with like Q+W+Auto Attack+ E out. Once he's half HP and doesn't have E up or Q you can just go for an all-in.
Easy matchup, just be careful with early levels.at level 3 you can start making quick trades and at level 6 you can just all-in him, and you'll always win. Get Executioner's Calling or Plated Steel caps
Easy matchup, Heimerdinger is very weak this season, and you kill one turret with auto+Q, just go for all-ins against him, and you'll destroy him. At level 1 if you can try to cheese him on a bush or something.
In this matchup you're supposed to lose before level 6, you take Doran's shield + second wind in runes and try to survive. At level 6 just try to bait his E and force an all-in.
In this matchup you should try to remove is bone plating and go for extended trades (keep your E to dodge his W), try to crash 3rd wave on his tower, so you can recall without losing cs, then you freeze lane and bully him every time he tries to cs.
Rumble is very weak this season, you want to cheese him level 1, if you can't cheese him just get level 2 first and trade him with E+auto+q+auto+q+auto+q+auto, and you're going to be ahead. Level 6 careful about his ult, try to dodge it with your E, and you win the all-in.
In this matchup you can cancel Sion's Q with your stuns, so he shouldn't be able to play. However, if he gets 1 or 2 kills he's going to be a monster, and he will destroy you. Just crash 3rd wave, recall and freeze lane on your tower and bully him when he tries to cs.
Same as Taliyah and Elise in the early game, you should stun a target inside his W and the target should be dead. However, in team fights, this is a perfect combo to use.
You can just stun someone she presses E and target is dead.
You can just stun someone, and she presses w and you guys can one shot a target for free.
Nunu & Willump
This is a perfect combo if you have the lane frozen on your tower, because there's no champion that can actually run from a Nunu+Riven, he's DEAD.
He's just strong by himself at ganking. If he gets you a lead you can pretty much carry the game.
This is a HUGE combo to execute in team fights or skirmishes, if you both fight in the both place. You pretty much win it.
You stun a target, she uses her Q and its GG in laning phase.
Turns you into a raid boss in team fights.
Perfect team fight combo.
Perfect for engages if she spell shield's you before the engage.
Champion Build Guide
I'm 19 years old and I'm Portuguese. Currently, I'm studying at night to end 12th grade while I'm focusing in LoL (I play at Portugal 2nd Division League). I do stream when I'm not playing in splits and put some highlights on YouTube!
I started playing LoL in season 1, I used to play a lot of twisted treeline with friends until season 4 in which I started playing rankeds and got placed in silver playing Leblanc, Nasus and Ryze top, and Zilean support.
At season 5 I started learning riven and got up to gold, then season 6 Platinum, and when I was close to Diamond I got banned due to toxicity.
I took a break and came in season 8 again which I got diamond ELO on my EX E-Girlfriend account while mine was gold.
I continued to climb and on this preseason I got master tier in EUW.
Furthermore, I'll try to teach you guys how to climb and how to master this beautiful champ, so give your opinion in comments, so I can improve. :)
Still updating this!

Strong Team Fighting
|Hard to Master|
Runic Blade is Riven's passive which gives your next auto attack bonus damage every time you cast an ability, stacking up to 3 auto attacks. You can abuse this by using the Broken Wings + AA + Broken Wings + AA + Broken Wings + AA.|
Broken Wings is Riven's first ability in which she dashes in the direction she is facing or the target that you have your cursor in, dealing physical damage to anyone in range of the dash. This can be reactivated within the next 4 seconds.|
Broken Wings 2nd cast is equal to 1st cast.
Broken Wings 3rd cast is a bit longer than the 1st and 2nd, but knocks up enemies around her and has more range. This can also be used to jump over most of the walls in the game, known as "wall hops".
Tip: Broken Wings Cooldown starts counting on first cast, which means you can cast Broken Wings, wait 3.90 seconds, cast Broken Wings and wait another 3.90 seconds, and then you can engage with your 3rd cast, and you'll have your 1st cast up again if you have at least 35% CDR.
Ki Burst is Riven's second ability in which she stuns everyone around her for 0.75 seconds, dealing damage.|
Tip: You can use Ki Burst to stop abilities like Rammus Powerball or Camille Hookshot
Valor is Riven's third ability in which she dashes towards the cursor direction, getting a shield for 1.5 seconds.|
Tip: Valor cancels any of Riven animations, which means it's your base ability to combo, the most common one is the double cast, which consists of Valor + AA + Ki Burst + Broken Wings.
Blade of the Exile is Riven's ultimate ability in which she empowers her sword gaining (20% AD) bonus attack damage,75 range on auto attacks and some range on Ki Burst and Broken Wings for 15 seconds. Then she activates it again to cast Wind Slash doing damage in a cone where she casts it, lower hp enemies take more damage.|
|Doran's Blade Is the best starting item for Riven when you are in matchups that you need to all-in or trade without getting damaged. Example: Darius Fiora Volibear|
|Doran's Shield Is a good start for Riven when you're laning against poke champions. Example: Quinn Teemo Gangplank|
|Long Sword Is the most common starting item for Riven because it provides damage and sustain. Every time you don't get Doran's Blade or Doran's Shield you buy this. Examples: Garen Urgot Sett|
|Caulfield's Warhammer Is the item you're looking for first because it gives you a lot of AD+CDR which is really broken for Riven. Even though you only upgrade it after getting Goredrinker or Stridebreaker.|
|Ionian Boots of Lucidity Pretty much you want to get this as soon as possible as well as Caulfield's Warhammer to get your CDR/mobility power spike, it gives you so much outplay potential that basically you just lose lane if you don't play correctly with this.|
|Stridebreaker BY FAR this is my favorite item on riven because of the outplay potential it gives. But sadly it got nerfed and Goredrinker is far better now.|
|Goredrinker Is the most common item on Riven at the moment because it gives you CDR, healing and damage. Its pretty good and consistent buy for Riven.|
|Black Cleaver Is the 3rd most common item built in Riven because it gives survivability, damage, movement speed and armor shred. I recommend taking it when you face tanks or when you're even/behind in lane.|
|Essence Reaver Is the item that I mostly get in Solo Queue because I get ahead in most of the matchups, this gives you a lot of burst damage and split push potential so it's better for snowballing. ONLY take this if you're ahead, otherwise take Black Cleaver.|
|Sterak's Gage Is a very consistent buy for Riven in the 4th place because it provides a LOT of survivability and also gives you some damage. I take Sterak's Gage almost every game, I only take Death's Dance first if the enemy laner is something like Jax or Viego that builds Blade of the Ruined King which does more damage the more HP you have.|
|Death's Dance is the item that you pick if you still need survivability in team fights.|
|Ravenous Hydra Is the item you take if you feel that you need damage against squishy targets. Also, Ravenous Hydra gives you amazing wave clear and split push potential.|
|Serylda's Grudge Is the item you take if you need damage against heavy armor teams.|
|Serpent's Fang Is the item you take if they're team to have a lot of shields like Lulu Janna Seraphine.|
|Chempunk Chainsword Is the item you take if they have a lot of healing AND you cannot one shot them before they heal.|
