When and why to pick Gnar
You should pick Gnar if...
You want to decide Teamfights
You want to play a tank with high damage potential
You should not pick Gnar if...
You are afraid of engaging
You do not want to play a tank
Why not BotrK???
In Laning Phase, BotrK will help you harass your opponent, but when it comes to Teamfights, Gnars best dicipline,or when you become Mega-Gnar, it has simply no use.
Additionally BotrK just provides 25 attack dmg which is to low for the price and especially Mega-Gnar needs much AD and Armor penetration to burst down the opponents and since you will be Mega-Gnar (hopefully) in most Teamfights BotrK will not have a greater use in Late game.
This is why I prefer Black Cleaver, it provides armor pen., flat AD and CDR, everything u need as Gnar in TF´s

Randuins is simply there to make you more tanky as Mega- and Mini-Gnar .
