Introduction

This is my first guide, so please comment your feedback. The purpose of the guide is to make people aware of that Graves is an exellent mid champion even as AD carrier and by making a guide I hope to give people the "courage" of going mid. Please excuse me for my bad English and hope you like it because its about to begin. ;)

Masteries

AD carrier except some changes.

The Masteries grants

Runes

Runes

Domination
Predator
Fleet Footwork
Phase Rush

You may think this is a noob rune page but I prefer it. It gives the extra damage in early games you always wanted! I've played a lot of games with this build and almost every game i get the first blood because of my high amount of damage. To top it all of I have some mana regen runes to stay in lane longer.

Summoner Spells

My personally favorite choice is Flash and Exhaust but Ignite is a great spell too. Here is some pros and cons for each summoner spell.

Flash
Pros
Easy to get away with.
Can be used to get to a kill.
Cons
May be replaced by Quickdraw.
Exhaust
Pros
Great to gank other AD Carriers.
Slow other champions by 40%.
Cons
Does not affect AP champions as much.
Ignite
Pros
Great to pick up kills with.
Reduces healing by 50%.
Cons
Can be countered by absorb shields.

Those are my top 3 summoner spells for Graves. These spells can also be used:
Ghost Good for chasing and fleeing.
Teleport You can stay in lane for a loooooonng time.
Cleanse always good to escape if your a carrier.
Heal Its good but I don't advice you to use it.

Summoner spells you should avoid!:
Smite No need at all, your not jungling anyways.
Revive Your not planning on dying are you?
Fortify Mostly for tanks and support stay away from it.

Skill Sequence

Graves The Outlaw

Gunslinger

Graves gains (1 / 2 / 3 / 4) bonus Armor and Magic Resist every second he remains in combat (stacks up to 10 times).
Tips:
  • Always try to stay in combat. Think of it this way: If you go in combat at level 1 with a lot more MR and Armor there is a larger chance for you to win.

Buckshot

Graves shoots three bullets in a cone, each dealing (60 / 105 / 150 / 195 / 240) (+(0.8 per attack damage point)) physical damage to all enemies in their path.
Enemies hit with multiple bullets take (35)% damage from each additional bullet.

Tips:
  • Always try to be close to the enemy when using Buckshot it will grant you 35% more damage for every extra hit.
  • Combine Buckshot with Quickdraw because it will increase your attack speed so you can shoot one more extra time after your Buckshot and the Quickdraw gets you close enough to take the advantage of the 35% more damage. If you don't understand what i mean look at the video called Buckshot and quickdraw combo at the Video section.

Smoke Screen

Graves fires a smoke canister dealing (60 / 110 / 160 / 210 / 260) (+(0.6 per ability power point)) magic damage on impact and creating a smoke cloud at the location that lasts (5) seconds. Enemies inside the cloud have their sight radius reduced and are slowed by (15 / 20 / 25 / 30 / 35)% while they remain in the cloud.
Tips:
  • Use the advantage of fog of war through several ways. First way is to cast it in a many way path, look at the video called Fog of War in the video section. The second way is to smoke screen one enemy and attack the other, that makes the smoked enemy unavailable to see what happens to the other. Watch Hiding enemy at the video section if you don't understand what i mean.

Quickdraw
This Ability is good for escapes or getting to a fight and dealing damage.
Graves dashes forward gaining (40 / 50 / 60 / 70 / 80)% increased Attack Speed for (4) seconds.
Each of his basic attacks lowers the cooldown of Quickdraw by (1) second.

Tips:
  • There is many walls available to dash over with Quickdraw the video called dash in the video section will show you some walls that is "dasheable".
  • Quickdraw is a great tower pushing spell! Use it whenever possible when your attacking a tower. It just make sense doesn't it?

Collateral Damage
Graves fires off an explosive shell dealing (250 / 375 / 500) (+(1.4 per attack damage point)) physical damage to the first enemy champion hit. After hitting a champion or reaching the end of its range, Collateral Damage deals (150 / 275 / 400) (+(1.2 per attack damage point)) physical damage in a cone behind the target.
Tips:
  • Its a very good opening spell. Try to always open with it because you want to make use of the whole damage don't you? Its good to last hit with too because its a skill shot but be careful because you don't wanna end up wasting your ultimate!
  • The range is longer than it looks at the moment. Try to get a good feeling on how long the ultimate really is because it will grant you a great advantage.

Items - Normal

This is my prefered build

Doran's blade
It gives you great early stats, 3% lifesteal helps you to stay in lane at early game. Its a must if im playing. Try to sell your Doran's Blade when buying B. F. Sword.

Berserker's Greaves
The speed is always good but most important is the attack speed combined with the runes makes you godly at early game. Its never bad to be fed at low level is it?

Phantom Dancer
More attack speed and more speed that is all what Graves need! It all comes with some crit too!

Infinity Edge
Nothing to explain really. Its like Rabadon's Deathcap but for AD. This combined with the Phantom Dancer is great.

Stark's Fervor
When you get this your lifesteal should be around 100 - 200 per hit, it also gives you attack speed witch Graves is based off.

Frozen mallet
700 hp more with 200 lifesteal is like peanut butter and jelly you can almost get a pentakill by yourself if your fed enough. The slow makes it easier to kite too. LET THE SLAUGHTER BEGIN!

or
The Bloodthirster
More lifesteal, more damage plus it has a passive witch stacks damage and lifesteal. Buy it if the enemy team doesn't have heavy tanks.
Last whisper
Its a need if enemy team has heavy tanks such as Rammus or Alistar.

Items - Damage

This isn't a build i recommend in ranked or anything important.

Doran's blade
Always begin with a Doran's Blade! Lifesteal and damage is great in early game.

Berserker's Greaves
This build wont get you much attack speed so the bonus of Berserker's Greaves is very useful.

The Bloodthirster
Lifesteal and damage. It has a passive witch stacks damage and lifesteal that's why its a must in this build.

The Bloodthirster
Lifesteal and damage. It has a passive witch stacks damage and lifesteal that's why its a must in this build.

Infinity Edge
Needed in this build. With 250% crit damage you will crit over 1000 per hit!

The Black Cleaver
Attack speed. The passive is great with this build and damage. The passive reduces armor.

Frozen mallet
This is like Graves main item. Use it but don't abuse it!

Warmog's Armor
More hp for survivability.

Atma's Impaler
Its the main item of this build! Its a must! Its passive grants 2% of your maximum health to damage.

Randuin's Omen

Never bad with a passive witch damages enemies plus it grants some extra armor.

Gameplay

Solo mid

Last hitting
When going mid you need to farm as much as possible! Its all about farming! Get used to last hit creeps and try to use Buckshot from time to time.
Harass
Always be aware that Graves is squishy in early game the only thing you can really do is to HARASS, be offensive and use the Quickdraw and Buckshot combo.
Before using the combo to harass be aware of your True Grit stacks always keep them up.
Map
At level 6 - 9 try to kill RED buff it gives you an great advantage. Take a look at the mini map every now and then and see if there is any champions heading your way.

Avoiding

If you meet long ranged champions in mid you need to be alert at all time. For example Caitlyn will be using Piltover Peacemaker greatly so what i mean is that you try to avoid them as much as possible. Whenever you see spells like Piltover Peacemaker on cooldown do your Quickdraw and Buckshot combo to counter it.

Team fights

The roll your playing in team fights is AD carrier but also support. Help the team using Smoke Screen but also use it offensive to make make your opponent out of play. The main thing you need to do in team fights is |burst|. Try to focus squishy enemies and work your way up.
