Introduction
Skill sequence in short:

For Items, I usually build my items based on the enemy team.
Must have starting items:
Starting the game I usually buy Regrowth Pendant and Health Potion. For my first return to well I usually have enough gold from harassing to afford (Philosopher's stone is a good item for laning so you don't have to well back to base as often early game) and Boots of Speed. If i have enough gold I also buy blue/red potions and wards.
As a tank you don't usually get that much gold from so you have to build economy items. I usually build two gold/5 secs items; Heart of Gold along with Philosophers stone.
Mid-Late Game
From here on out, my items are always going to be built situationally.
Boots:
I buy Mercury Treads if the enemy team has lots of CC(silence, stun, slows, etc) or if more of the enemies are AP. If the majority of the team is AD, I buy Ninja Tabi .
Final Items
The next item I rush almost always is Aegis of Legion Aegis of Legion. Overall, this item is good for the team. Banshee's Veil and Guardian Angels are always a MUST. The order in which they are built vary based on the enemy team composition.
Attack Damage Teams

Attack Damage Teams
If the enemy team is majority AD, I usually rush the rest of my items in this order:
- Guardian Angel
- Banshee's Veil
- Sunfire Cape or Frozen Heart (only if there is someone with high attack speed)
-
Randuin's Omen
Consider also building: - Thornmail
- eleisa's-miracle Eleisa's Miracle
Ability Power Teams
If the enemy team is majority AP, I usually rush the rest of my items in this order:
Start with 1 point in eclipse; by level 3 have a point in each skill, then proceed to max eclipse. Maxing Eclipse first will allow you to have 1) increased Magic Resist/Armor and 2) heavy damage from the burst; plus, the extra points in the shield and zenith blade only lower cooldowns and increase damage. Max Zenith blade second because you want to have lower cooldowns for chasing fleeing enemies. Finally, Max the Shield of Daybreak.

Before charging into someone, toggle and let it bake a little, then Follow in with , a basic attack, and then follow in with . After you have used this sequence, your lane partner should have been able to take the enemy down quite a bit of health. If this isn't enough to sure the kill use your Ultimate, and repeat the sequence.
During late games, you want to target the most threatening enemies. You can start by running up to one enemy, use , and to an enemy carry. That way, you are taking out two enemies for a fraction of a fight.

Greater Seal of Armor and Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist are just used for early game resistance added with
. Greater Seal of Evasion can also be used to replace the armor seals.
The Greater Mark of Magic Penetration are for increased damage from Leona's abilities. Since she is built as a tank in this guide, her attack speed won't be that high, nor will her damage per hit so greater mark of desolation wouldn't really make sense.
The Greater Quintessence of Ability Power are to increase damage done by her abilities in early lane phases and greater harassment. The Quintessences can be swapped for Greater Quintessence of Health or Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed.

Flash vs Ghost is just a matter of preference Ghost or Flash.
Pick a second summoner spell that could be helpful to the team.

- Teleport for surprise ganks by teleporting on wards or incoming minion waves
- Clairvoyance foresight on ganks
- Ignite ...i mean if no one else has it. try not to ks though.
- Exhaust more cc cant hurt right?
Personally, my ideal lane-mate would be either an AD ranged-carry or another melee carry with some sort of CC. I do not like to lane with AP characters because it is hard to feed someone that is dependent on abilities to kill.
When initiating in the lane phase, I usually just harass or sit in bushes until lv 2-3 when I get Zenith Blade. When initiating, I usually try to sit in the brushes, waiting for the enemy to overstep their bounds. If I have enough time I start with Eclipse, otherwise I initiate with Zenith Blade, start Eclipse, then use Shield of Daybreak,if you are lv 6 and your enemy is not yet dead, use Solar Flare to further prevent your enemy from escaping. At any point do you think you might Kill-Steal (KS) your carry, you should probably stop auto-attacking the targeted enemy, unless of course your teammate is dead or out of reach and the enemy is escaping. Remember, you are trying to feed your carry.
Also note that your passive, Sunlight, marks your enemy with light and is consumed by your teammates, not yourself. With that, try to allow your teammate to attack the target between your spells, but remember that if your target enemy may escape between the time you are waiting your teammate to attack, stunning them again is more important than the bonus damage.
