In this guide I will be showing you how I like to build and play Garen.

+ Very good early game

+ Insane sustain with Passive

+ Can carry!

+ Easy to learn, but hard to master

+ Is an AD offtank, and can be played in a variety of ways.

+ can 100 - 0 opponents with ult

- Can be kited very easily

- Once behind its hard to come back

- Is only viable in the top lane, but can be played mid lane if you're confident

- Falls off late game

- Needs to jump the enemy back line

- Isn't a very good initiator

Now choosing your spells is completely up to you and what you feel comfortable with, if you plan on playing aggressive its worth to take ignite to pressure your opponent since most top laners will bring Teleport and they won't have that pressure as well.

Taking Teleport over ignite is also viable, this will give you the option to teleport back to top lane and will give you the ability to Teleport gank a lane if you see fit.

Ghost is also an option but isn't that great on Garen since your Q already gives you a quick blast of movement speed.

Exhaust is actually quite viable if you'll be up against a high mobility champion like Quinn or an ADC champion, only take exhaust if you think you'll need it.

Heal / Barrier is an option but isn't that good on Garen, back in S4 I use to take Heal with Garen but in todays meta it's just not that good for Garen.

Flash is a must, always take Flash regardless of matchup.

When you decide to start or fight back in a trade, start with a Q for the silence, then use your E for the Armour shred, if your opponent isn't low enough to be ulted finish of the trade with an Auto Attack, on the other hand if they are low enough use your Ignite and ult them to finish them off!

Garen is very strong when it comes to harassing your enemy, always try to Q your enemy every once in a while, Garen can bully a lane opponent very hard in the laning phase.

And of course ONLY use your ult as a finisher!

Garens Villain passive is a very good reason to roam to other lanes since you'll deal true damage to the Villain, in some cases it may be worth to switch lanes to face the Villain, but it's very rare you'll lane swap since the Villain can change at any time.

When it comes to team fighting with Garen you want to focus the back line, but in some cases that won't be an option, if a fight breaks out and you're not in position stick to focusing the back line, your combo will 100 - 0 any adc, but of course be careful and coordinate with your team.

I have mained Garen since 2014, and from all of that time playing I have mastered Garen and can play him regardless of situation, Garen is a very easy to learn top lane fighter, but of course once mastered he becomes one of the most viable and strongest champions in the game.
