Introduction

G'Day my name is PshychoBanana and today I am presenting to you my favourite champion Lux . Lux is my favourite champion because she is just a goody two-shoes and she has a little mischievous attitude (referring to her lore).
The reason I am making this guide is because I feel like people should know my understanding of Lux and maybe learn a thing or two from my experience.
If this guide doesn't help you at all, please feel free to leave!

In this guide I will be showing you how I build her and how I play her. This is my first build so any criticism is gladly appreciated, except for harsh criticism of course, although it is appreciated so I know just how bad I have done!

Lux is a very fun champion I like to play her heaps as a mid laner. Most people say she's a good support, don't get me wrong she is an excellent support, but I just think that her potential is wasted as a support, and most of the time people *cough* bronze players *cough* always build Lux with full ap and little support items.

Lux is a very good harasser but in the event that you're versing Morgana she could Black Shield out of your snare making your life miserable and you may have a slight chance that your team will rage at you for not hitting your Light Binding, but to stop this from happening, I like to pretend I'm running to Morgana to try and scare her making her think that I'm going to snare her to kill her, but in actual fact I'm just going to use Lucent Singularity and pop her Black Shield therefore making combos easier to hit!

Lux is an amazing support, not support as in helping your adc strive to carry the match, no, what I mean is a support as in helping your team-mates, working as a team to secure kills. Most people in game that I have noticed almost always save their ult for last, to finish them off, but that's what everyone knows, instead of waiting to ult in the last second, ult straight away! It will catch your opponent off guard and they won't know what to do. This is called "fast ulting", below is a link explaining this theory (not by me, but by an amazing person on youtube called GamingCurios) and how it works!

Masteries

I take 4 points in Sorcery because the cooldown lets you poke more with your Lucent Singularity or your q and it can often be a good thing in late game having a low cooldown on your Final Spark.

I take 4 points in Blast because having more ability power helps, even if it is just a little bit more.

Havoc is one that is argued with a lot! People always get Butcher because doing extra damage to minions helps you last hit, no, this is a mistake many people make even if it isn't a mid build. Doing extra damage ONLY to minions is like saying "you could use Butcher to only do more damage to minions OR you could get Havoc and do extra damage to EVERYTHING" getting Havoc is like hitting two birds with one stone.

Arcane Knowledge pretty much speaks for itself, hurting those who build Magic Resist.

Mental Force , again this helps you by giving you more ability power, and who doesn't want more ap!

Spellsword is to help with Lux's passive, it will help do more damage while you activate your passive on an enemy unit.

Again, Archmage gives you more ability power, pretty self explanatory.

Executioner is a vital mastery to get, for example if you bully someone down to half health, and they are rather squishy your ult will do tons of damage (lol Phreak) to the enemy opponent. So in other words it's a great thing to have while finishing someone off.

Meditation helps with bullying someone down so you don't lose mana as quickly as you normally would.

Improved Recall is to help with getting back into lane quicker, as Lux is a very squishy champion early game, she can be bursted down and killed pretty quickly, so having this will mean she can recall, get health and items, and get back in time to save her lane.

Mastermind is great but I don't take too many points into this as you don't really rely MUCH on your summoner spells, because let's face it Lux is op as hell!

Expanded Mind is like having more ability power, same rules apply, the more mana you have the more abilities you would be able to use.

Runic Affinity is great for when your jungler lets you have blue, because it gives you that little bit extra of mana regen and cooldown reduction for a little while longer, making the enemy go back more often.

The reason I chose Greater Quintessence of Ability Power is because having nearly 15 more ability power is OP! It gives you a great advantage because 15 ap is enough to have your abilities do a bit more damage than they originally do.

Greater Glyph of Ability Power gives you 10.8 more ability power if you have 9 of them so in actual fact you already have 25 ap and that's with just your runes. Increasing your ap is increasing your damage output, especially with Lux her Final Spark's damage output is insane!

Having Greater Seal of Armor healps against ad champions, if they have quite a few on their you should swap out the mana regen and fill it with armor runes. Also, Greater Seal of Mana Regeneration gives you that just a little bit of edge when it comes to using your abilities, so you can spam them longer than you usually would if you didn't have.

Greater Mark of Magic Resist is pretty much self explanatory, it helps you have some reasonable defence against almost all ap mids, but if you come to versing an ad mid such as Zed or Kha'Zix than swap it with more armor runes.

These starting items are usually to have some sustain in lane but also some mobility to help with ganks or objectives such as dragon. I nearly almost get these items to start with as they give me just enough sustain to last long enough to go back the first time and buy the necessary items. Also, in the latest nerf with Lux her base movement speed was lowered from 340 to 330. Now that may not seem like a lot but it is actually a noticeable difference, although I don't mind because it's easy to work around. (Only bad Lux players care about that).

These spawn items are usually for more offensive play in the beginning giving you the extra ap, health and mana every time you kill a unit. I sometimes use these when I'm up against LeBlanc because her poke early game is horrendous and you can easily get shutdown, so these items help with poking her just as much as she is poking you and still not losing much mana as you can easily gain 4 mana each minions you last hit.

These items help you stay in lane a bit longer because when you go back next you need to buy a lot of items, so you need to stay in lane and farm or get more kills. It's essential to buy Chalice of Harmony because having the magic resist and mana regen that gives you more mana regen when you have less mana is very helpful against most ap mids. Sorcerer's Shoes gives you that little kick if they start building magic resist so you can damage them a lot easier. Wards are essential so always buy some and pots are to help you stay in lane just that little bit longer.

These items are for when you go back to base for the second time, it helps for laning a lot better when you get back because the cooldown reduction from Fiendish Codex helps you poke more often and it gives you a boost in ability power. sight wards are essential whatever lane you go so always buy some if you can, even if they are not needed you never know when you might need to check a bush and the only option is to facecheck, which you should never do! The pots give you that regen just in case you need it.

Getting Athene's Unholy Grail helps with being defensive and for bursting down the enemy. It gives you great mana regen and gives you quite a bit of ability power. All in all this item is a really good catch I would recommend it for ever mid Lux build! Mejai's Soulstealer is ONLY if you are winning as it gives you ability power everytime you get an assist or kill, so logically if you aren't getting kills than you are definitely NOT getting this item! Rabadon's Deathcap is pretty much self explanatory, it gives you tons of ability power and gives you even more based on how much ability power you have all together!

This build usually tends to lean towards the more offensive mid game as it has more magic penetration and more ability power straight up. Lich Bane gives you more damage output because of the passive where after using an ability the next basic attack deals a set amount of damage + an amount based on your ability power. This is something you would usually build if you are against LeBlanc as she tends to have a lot of burst and you just shut her down with magic penetration.

These end items are your defensive items, giving you health, armor and a second chance at living. I usually take these so I have quite a bit of armor and health in the end, it's nothing much but it helps a lot when your team feeds the enemy Caitlyn. The magic penetration on Liandry's Torment also helps because in late game most champions start to build defensively and you don't want your damage falling off so we buy this just to keep up to par with their defence!

These ending items are usually more offensive than defensive as they gice you tons more ap and focus more on killing the enemy than saving your life, I sometimes use these only when the enemy team is really squishy because it's easier to get a pentakill when your Lucent Singularity instakills someone (exaggeration)!

Mejai's Soulstealer is for when you are getting s lot of kills or assists, do not however get it when you are losing lane or you are falling behind in kills as it gives you ap everytime you get a kill or an assist, up to 20 stacks. Morellonomicon is an item you get when the opposing team has health reliant champions such as Dr. Mundo, this item cuts his healing in half, usually people would just Ignite him but with this you don't need to! Abyssal Mask is for when you are battling against double ap champions, more like melee ap champions such as Katarina or Akali, it's to help you have a better chance against them.

Summoner Spells


Flash: This summoner spell comes in handy for when people want to gank you, I find it very easy to dodge enemy abilities with it, but you need to be pretty experienced to know how other champions move when they are about to use an ability.

Ignite: This really helps me with many things, but one of the main uses I have for it is to just get their health down. Although, sometimes I use it to finish them off, I usually have my ulti to do that, so instead I just ignite when they are half health to lower lower it even more and then I just laser their face off!

Ghost: Sometimes if I'm feeling that their team has way to much mobility I would replace Flash with Ghost because it lets me get places quicker, for example if bot needs a gank and I don't have my ulti I can run down there to get a kill or two, and make it back to my lane in time so it doesn't get pushed so much.

When I play Lux I always max Lucent Singularity first because it gives you that edge in damage against the opponent. It's a great poking tool as it has an extremely long range, almost as long as Nidalee's Javelin Toss! It also gives you vision in a brush and can slow people that walk over it! It would be even more op if they made it so that it also speeds your allies up but we already have a champion with that and her name is Orianna my other main!

Sometimes depending on who I'm versing I would usually take my Prismatic Barrier because it gives you an amazing shield against people with tricky pokes such as Nidalee's Javelin Toss, or Orianna's Command: Attack! It is also amazing late game as it shields for heaps of damage, so it's always nice to max second or third.

Next I get my Light Binding because then I can start setting up combos with my Light Binding and my Lucent Singularity! It also helps with ganks, when someone ganks I also Light Binding them and then I use Lucent Singularity but I don't put it on them, I put it in the way they are going, as it slows them so it is harder for them to get away! It usually doesn't work when versing a Fizz because his Playful / Trickster becomes annoying against Lux! Usually if I am versing a Fizz I just stay back and Lucent Singularity him until he's low enough to do a combo! I always make sure to proc his Playful / Trickster before I snare because it becomes annoying when he just jumps out of your combos.

Final Spark is Lux's best damaging spell, it can be a great snipe and is rather wide so it is easier to hit on most targets. When you get this ability it is so easy to stomp down on people, for example: First you use Light Binding then Lucent Singularity and finish off with a Final Spark! I love Lux's ultimate and that it is called Final Spark, I mean it was called Finales Funkeln because it is German and it gives it a bit more culture (even though Lux isn't German, but still!). This ability is great to snipe people, what I usually do is go halfway to bot, and help them out by ulting their adc/support, trying to ult them both at the same time, to give them a little edge or maybe a kill or two!
