Malzahar, The Prophet of the Void

Introduction

Hey, Zioharknin (Zinekrom) here and this is my Malzahar guide! I really didn't spend a lot of time on this but I'm probably going to use it if my friends are trying out Malzahar and I'll send them to this guide, but I guess the public could also use this guide for their needs...so I hope this helps. Please keep in mind that this guide is suppose to be for friends and not the public. Don't rate this down just because you don't like it. I'm not a professional at this and I'm not even finished with the guide. Even if you are the public, I hope that you don't hate this guide and that if you want me to change something/add something I'll be glad to listen. I'M OPEN FOR ADVICE. I really just want to make this guide better for my friends to learn how to play Malzahar .

Malzahar Lore

Many men have gone mad beneath the glare of the Shurima sun, but it was during the night's chilling embrace that Malzahar relinquished his sanity. Malzahar was born a seer, blessed with the gift of prophecy. His talent, though unrefined, promised to be one of Runeterra's greatest boons, but destiny plotted him another course; his sensitivity to the roiling tides of fate allowed other, unwelcome things to tug at his subconscious mind. In his dreams, where the veil of separation is thinnest, a sinister thing beckoned. For some time, Malzahar was able to resist its prodding solicitation, but with each passing night the voice grew louder, or perhaps deeper, until he could withstand the call no more.

He ventured into the desert without supplies, drawn by the lure of a specious charm. His destination: a lost civilization to the east, known to ancient texts as Icathia. Few believed such a place ever existed, and those who did were certain that the sands had long since devoured whatever remained. When Malzahar's cracked feet finally failed him, he found himself kneeling at the base of a bizarre crumbling obelisk. Beyond it lay the alien geometry of a ruined city and the giant decaying idols of dark and horrific gods. His eyes, seeing what others cannot, and what none should, were filled with the essence of the Void. His once shifting visions of the future were replaced with the immutable promise of Valoran beset by creatures of the Void. Standing alone, but not alone, amidst the echoing dunes, he noticed the familiar voice escape his own lips in a parched rasp, bearing three words whose weight trembled his knees. League of Legends. Now infused with the power of the void itself, Malzahar set off to the north to seek his fate.

''The land may melt, the sea may swell, the sky may fall... but They will come.''
-- Malzahar

Pros / Cons

PROS
1.) Great farmer (one of the best in LoL!)
2.) If you know how to combo correctly and if the enemy is at half health, it is almost an assured kill.
3.) HE FLOATS!
4.) Great late game and great for initiating ganks for your jungler. (use your ult combo nuff' said.)
5.) HE HAS A MINI DAGGER THAT HE'S TOO COOL TO EVEN USE!
CONS
1.) Bad early game (level 1-5)
2.) Can consume mana quickly if you spam his spells in a bad manner.
3.) His Q is the only area damage he has, unless you include his W that does about no damage unless with the ult combo.
4.) HIS GLOWING EYES MAKE HIM LOOK SCARY AND EVIL! :c

Spells

Call of the Void

1.) Try to put this spell in front of the person if they're going towards you or running from you. They will most likely run into it.
2.) Malzahar's second highest damage spell at level 18 (other than Malzahar's Nether Grasp)
3.) Great for clearing out lines of minions.
Null Zone

1.) Worthless without ult combo. (unless your trying to get up your Voidling in base or for pushing a tower)
2.) That is all that needs to be said about this spell.

Malefic Visions

1.) Extremely useful spell for farming or just to deal some simple damage. (It's a click spell, not a skill shot)
2.) It makes the Voidling go at the person that has the Malefic Visions so it's pretty funny to just put your Malefic Visions on a low health enemy and watch your pet slowly finish them off.
3.) Good for indicating a focus.
4.) Highest damaging Malzahar spell other than Malzahar's ultimate, Nether Grasp.
Nether Grasp

1.) AN EXTREMELY OP ULT IN 1v1 FIGHTS!
2.) Always combo your Malefic Visions and Null Zone with Nether Grasp for full damage. (unless the enemy is very low or you don't have enough mana)
3.) In my opinion, one of the best ult's in the game, mostly because of it's low cool down and op damage when used with combo.

Team Fights

In team fights, try to just mostly spam your Call of the Void and Malefic Visions because those are your highest dealing spells (not including your Nether Grasp). In team fights, always focus the champion that deals the highest damage (unless someone pings out someone else but otherwise, try to focus ^) To indicate the focus, simply put up your Null Zone under them, pop a Malefic Visions on them, and use your Nether Grasp. Your team will probably go after that person because he's being suppressed and can't do anything.

Pushing Towers/Lanes

As always, when pushing a lane, always check if an enemy in another lane is M.I.A. (missing in action) or if the jungler is somewhere else on the map so he won't gank you while you push. When pushing towers, try to pop up your Voidling by spamming spells on enemy minions or even in the air, because your Voidlings' are great for pushing because of their fast attack speed when upgraded and good enough health. (remember that you can have more than one Voidling out so even if you have one, still keep on spamming spells to get another one up. This is one of the reasons why I recommend Tear of the Goddess)

Masteries

The reason why I picked 21/0/9 masteries is:
1.) Malzahar is an Ability Power Carry, making him need lots of damage. The 21 points in offence does the trick.
2.) I did not use defense masteries because when you finish your whole build, Malzahar will have about 2.7k health, making him not need any extra defensive masteries.
3.) The reason why I went utility masteries instead of defensive masteries for my secondary masteries is because Malzahar needs lots of mana early game and utility masteries help him through that early game.

Farming Techniques

Malzahar is one of the best mid lane farmers in the game. Place your Call of the Void on a line of minions to clear the minion wave fast while having a Malefic Visions on the lowest health minion. When the Malefic Vision is spreading, auto attack the minion that is infected by the Malefic Vision so the Malefic won't end and will keep on spreading, giving you more mana. It's also nice to have at least one Voidling up before starting to clear waves, so spam your spells before you go into a big crowd of minions.

Runes Explaination

For any AP champion, I pretty much use the runes above (Malzahar AP Mid section) because of the extra ability power damage and some defenses just in case. I also put some notes under the rune section of both the AP guide and the ADC guide so you may want to check those out as well.

DUH WOMBO COMBO!

This isn't actually my video and yes it is in bots, (nub!) but I thought it clearly showed how to use Malzahar's spells in order to make a killer combo.

Does ADC Malzahar Work?

ADC Malzahar only doesn't work if you don't know how to use it. ADC Malzahar is best at pushing towers because the Voidling has the same attack damage/armor penetration that Malzahar has, making pushing towers about two times faster. As it says in my ADC Malzahar guide above, you should max Malific Visions first like in the AP Malzahar guide because it's Malzahar's highest damaging spell AND it attracts your precious minion to your enemy. Maxing Call of the Void is fine too, accept that it doesn't do as much damage and it doesn't attract your minion as well to your enemy. The good thing about Call of the Void is that it silences your enemy, making them unable to use spells which is extremely useful against spell using ADC's like Varus and Ezreal . That is why I max it second. Honestly, Null Zone does barely any damage without your Nether Grasp. Other than the Nether Grasp combo, the only other useful way to use Null Zone is to use it in base to get your Voidling-on-next-spell passive up. That is why I max it last. (and of course, max your Nether Grasp at any opportunity you can get)
