Introduction
I doubt summoner spells need explaining, and if they do for you, this might not be the guide for you,as people playing rengar for the first time... Let's just say that unless you REALLY fell in love with Rengar's aesthetic, this build is just going to give you a wrong idea on his level of strength in the jungle and draw you away from the beautiful champion he is. If you really want to venture into this:
Smite is the spell you can not afford to not pick if you're playing as a jungler. Not picking it will not even let you build the basic item of this build, and if you can't build that item, you're going to take quite a beating from the jungle's inhabitants. Aside from letting you buy certain items (namely Stalker's Blade and its sub-items),it can be activated targeting a monster or minion, dealing them 390-1000 damage to it scaling with level, and its effect is empowered by Stalker's Blade and Skirmisher's Sabre in different ways, allowing it to be used on cenemy champions. |
As for runes, our aim with this build is to tear down the enemy's team squieshies as fast as we can, eventually with one single q strike. Keeping this in mind,Let's take a look at my runes choices.
SECONDARY
This mastery gives you more ad with the more takedowns you can participate to. More ad,more fun! |
Takedowens give you permanent movement speed. Nah,you ain't getting away today mate. |
SECONDARY
After a takedown, you get mroe gold and you gain back a bit of your health.Perfect to keep on killing after a successful oneshot. |
Only useful early game, helps you secure kills (late game, you wont be needing a second hit ;) |
Item Sequence

I chose Stalker's Blade over Skirmisher's Sabre just because of personal preference, but if you feel more comfortable smiting first and landing your jump later, just build your favourite. The most important thing is that you build the warrior enchantment,as you can get,for a measly price,a huge damage boost that no other item can give you.
Next thing, you choose which boots you want, and you choose Ionian Boots of Lucidity because of the cooldown reduction you get,and it lets you jump more often, and use your ultimate more often,so... props. (Can be exchanged for Ninja Tabi or Mercury's Treads if you prefer to stray away from the spirit of this build and get a bit more tryhardy.
Next up is Youmuu's Ghostblade, which gives you everything you could want: 10% Cooldown reduction, some attack damage, always good to see, some lethality, bit o'movement speed, and most importantly an active which makes you gain 20% more movement speed and ignore unit collision,an active that is most useful while using your ultimate to catch up on that fast as f**k,speed boosted, juicy adc,and of course the usual "oh sh**t run faster" moment. An overall well rounded and gold efficient item that really makes the difference in the end.
Statikk Shiv is the first item you mmight not be familiar with if you're a rengar player. Think about this though:walking charges you up,up to a maximum of 100 stacks. When at 100 stacks, not only will your next basic attack deal up to 140 extra magic damage, but it will also chain out to a maximum of 5 other enemy units. Oh,it can also critically strike if your basic attack was going to in the first place.
Stormrazor,a relatively new item,it quickly became one of the favorite items for every adc,can also be taken to our happy and lethal kitten,as it gives you some ad and another charged effect: after not basic attacking for a couple of seconds, your next basic attack will critically strike for up to 200% of it's original damage.
Infinity Edge, this item really seals the deal for the enemy,as it gives you ad,it doubles your critical hit chance, and it also makes 10% of the damage from your critical strikes true damage, ignoring both armor and magic resistance.
Ok,let's get started. The thing you always have to keep in mind in this build is that you want to kill enemy characters with one single blow. We need to be able to have 3 things:
- Game sense
- A basic idea of how to play rengar
- Hand-eye coordination
In this part of the guide,we will be covering the third point in this list (and of course, the first partially). Sorry to break it down to you,but not always what may seem to enemies and teamshots a simple right click after pressing q,is gonna be that easy. Because keep this in mind: rengar does not only have his q,which is obviously his most important ability,he also has a w and an e,that have precise uses. When you jump someone, you will have to keep in mind that you do not have armor or extra hp,and that probably the character you are trying to kill has the same exact potential to one hit kill you that you have in his regards. The single factor that most of the time will have you come out as winner in this one second-long fights is... Surprise element. Since you will be just appearing out of nowhere, they will have no time to even right click on you before you end their miserable lives, and that's exactly what you want: leave them no time to react.. As i said, coordination plays a large part on this, and this is where it comes into scene. What you are gonna want to do is try to output the biggest amount of damage possible without losing your life. In theory,it's easy, and in some occasions it actually is,too. Find an isolated target, possibly use your ultimate or simply wait in a bush for them to get close enough, unleash your combo, disappear. Most of the time though, there's much more to it. For example: Let's say the game is at an advanced stage, and there are no isolated targets, just a big aram down the midlane, and the adc is safe and tight between 4 tanks and disablers. You surely can't just mindlessly jump on their carry, you need a plan. The person to formulate the plan will have to be you yourself. To do such a thing in every occasion, you will need to know by HEART,what each of Rengar's move does. Be mindful of using your flash, because you might even need it as a death-preventing tool,so only use it if you deem it completely necessary and worth. Flashing over a wall to escape a lee sin,for example,is almost never a smart idea. Sometimes the best thing you could do is just accept your death and think of what you did wrong and how you could have prevented it. This is not just an advice for this guide, this is general game sense, and although it will be frustrating,it will greatly improve your performance,so much that you will see the difference game by game.
P.S. The Practice tool wouldn't let me put 5 dummies, but this is an example of what could be done in such a situation, assuming you did enough damage and had farmed enough to get the kill with just what i did. If it's not clear enough, play it at 1/4 speed and look at what goes on cooldown and when.

If you got to the end and read every word of these text walls.... Grats, you're probably on the right way to becoming a better player or you are about to have some real fun with this champion. Either way,if you have suggestions or general feedback, add me on League at Sn3akyB3akyHD,maybe we could even play some games together. This took a lot of time and effort for me to make,an entire night,so thanks for reading and make SURE to leave feedback and tell me how i can improve my writing,as i will be improving the guide with match-ups. Byeee!
