greater Mark of desolation
greater seal of vitality Greater seal of Regeneration
greater Mark of desolation - Good for early game kills and all around good stats.
- Nice for early, mid, and late game sustainability and damage output.
greater seal of vitality - If you think you need some health early because you are having trouble use these.
Greater seal of Regeneration - A more viable choice and gives some nice lane sustainability.
- in my opinion this is an absolute must have.
- Good because my build is more damage then speed.
- More early damage for more early kills.
- A good choice if you want to get a bit more bang for your buck.

Riven's abilities charge her blade, causing her basic attacks to deal bonus physical damage. Riven's blade may be charged up to 3 times and expends one charge per attack.
This passive works really well with your q and I will get more in depth with this later.

Riven lashes out in a series of strikes. This ability can be reactivated three times in a short time frame with the third knocking back nearby enemies.
This is Riven's main damage ability (not including her Ult) each activation will give one charge of runic blade which can be used in between or after each activation of broken wings.

Riven emits a Ki burst, damaging and stunning nearby enemies.
Using Ki burst is great for last hitting champions. It has the lowest cooldown of all her abilities and has and ok ratio. If someone is escaping then just Ki burst them. An all around good ability.

Riven steps forward a short distance and block incoming damage
This ability is pretty much useless in my opinion. The only thing it is good for is getting in range for your other abilities.

Riven empowers her keepsake weapon with energy and gains attack damage and range. Aditionally, during this time, she gains the ability to use Wind Slash once, a powerful ranged attack.
This is her best ability by far. The less health your opponent has the more damage wind slash does.
There are many variations of Rivens skill sequence. If you want to deal the most damage as fast as you can follow what I have set out BUT if you want someone else to get fed up quickly then max

The best thing for Riven is a solo lane. Solo exp makes Riven massively op really quickly. If there is no possible solo lane then you should lane with someone who can CC as good as you. People like
,
,
,
or
. ALWAYS take a point in
at level one. The reason for this is it gives you a three hit ability, it gives you a stack of
Runic Blade for each activation and it has a knock back which, when placed properly, can be easy first blood. Get a
dorans blade and run into your lane as fast as possible. Get into a good position in a brush and wait with your teammate until the opponent appears. If they come into the brush make sure to stay behind them and activate
once. Make sure to space out your Q's with auto attacks to get the most damage output. If you seem to be getting owned click AWAY from your enemy and spam Broken wings because this will help you escape. Make sure to always last hit minions to get some much needed gold. At level 3 you SHOULD have a point in all 3 of your basic abilities. At this level you should be the biggest bully in lane. Start of by using
to get in range then
to get a nice stun in there and use ONE hit of
. The other two should be used to get away from your enemy. To do this click away from them and puts your curser in a clear spot of land then spam Q until there are no uses left. If you seem to be doing a TON of damage to them then simply use all of your broken wings charges, spacing them out with auto attacks. Once you have your ult your damage output should be massive. Remember to use your ults SECOND activation LAST There is one BIG problem with Riven players. They always mess up thier combo's which results in either them dying or thier opponent getting away. The way you should activate your abilities is as follows:
R -> attack -> E -> attack -> W -> attack -> Q -> attack -> Q -> attack -> Q -> attack -> R
If the enemy is a bit far away and you need to close the gap, the combo goes:
R -> E -> Q -> attack -> E -> attack -> Q -> attack -> Q -> attack -> R
For an escape the combo is:
R -> W -> E -> Q -> Q -> Q -> R
Make sure between every ability to click AWAY from your enemy when trying to escape. This will make sure that you get the best escape possible. You ult also gives your abilities some range and this also helps you escape. If you are feeling a bit cocky shoot your ult behind you to tease your opponent and when you are near a turret this may make them dive you for a free kill.
Always space out your abilities with auto attack because this makes your damage output steady. Make sure when using your Ki Burst to be as close as possible otherwise you might not stun them. As your opponent runs use Wind Slash to finish them off. I've found that when thier health bar is around 15% it will kill them but if they have armor and such you might need to assess it better. As I said the less health the more damage wind slash does so always save it for last.

There are many different items that can make Riven one of the best carries in the game. I have played Riven since she came out and I believe my build works best by far. Here is your core build for pure damage-
Why I think these are best for pure damage: Boots of swiftness works in great harmony with Riven's abilities. All of her abilities can help you chase down people even when they flash or ghost out. The Infinity edge has an amazing passive and also balences out all your abilities. It gives some nice damage, double power crit and some crit chance. The bloodthirster also gives some AMAZING perks. The lifesteal is great for taking down those champions that hit you hard, the damage can tear into tanks and the passive is insane. Youmuu's is great if you remember to use the active. The steady damage of Riven works well with the second part of the passive aswell.
another possible pure damage core build-
Why I think these are viable: So, first off the tri force would be an amazing item for Riven. The sheen passive works in harmony with her passive and the slow can also help her take down opponents. Also it gives some early movement and attack speed which can be vital in early game sustainability. Riven is a late game hero and this core build might make her and early game nuker. The Berserker's Greaves dont give you as much chase as you might want but they may give you enough burst to kill them before they have a chance. Obviously, the infinity edge gives you nice damage and is a must in my opinion. The Bloodthirster gives life steal and is also a must.
Vs heavy ad-
Why I think these are viable: Again, the boots of swiftness give you nice chase and nice escapeability. Tri force is good here because if gives you all around good stats and ok damage. The thornmail is a must have when taking on really heavy ad carries such as
Master Yi,
Tryndamere,
Vayne or
Ezreal. The thornmail and frozen mallet combo also means that you will have constant damage without hurtingyou survivability.
Vs heavy AP-
Why I think these are viable: Merc treads can give you some nice CC reduction for those annoying CCers such as
Veigar,
Evelynn,
Sion and
Alistar. The hexdrinker gives her some nice damage and its active is extremely good for heavy ap last hitters like
Morgana,
Kassadin and the most op of them all,
Karthus (Yes I hate him too...) and the Banshee's veil can also just completely stop ap hero's in thier tracks. Infinity edge is extremely good for keeping up your damage output aswell.
Vs Tanks -
Why I think these are viable: Obviously Madred's is a no brainer in this case. Its passive distroys anyone with massive health. Because Riven is ad the tanks will most likely stack armor for her and Madred's deals a percent of the enemies health as MAGIC damage which can really confuse the tanks. In this case I believe Berserker's greaves will really help you take down those pesky tanks. The black cleaver and infinity edge can give you massive damage output and shred the armor of the tank to help you take them down.
The boots can be changed out for
,
or
. These boots can all help Riven in some way. The Berserkers Greaves give some nice attack speed and are very good in my opinion, The boots of mobility are basically for when you want to back door and push minion waves and the Ionian boots give some nice CDR which help her escape, juke, kite, gank and SLAM PEOPLE INTO THE GROUND.

Riven is one of the most OP late game heroes ive ever seen. He AOE damage pushes minion waves, her passive gives her a lot of auto attack damage and her ult is just op by itself. The key things to remember with Riven are:
1. REMEMBER YOUR COMBO
2. ***ES THE SITUATION
3. OVERESTIMATE HER ESCAPEABILITY
4. TIME YOUR SUMMONER SPELLS
5. LANE WITH A CC HERO
6. USE WIND SLASH LAST
If you follow these simple rules you should be the best Riven possible.
