Introduction

I enjoy Riven's role in top lane and in jungle. I believe her top lane is quite strong, and despite her nerfs, she's still a force to be reckoned with.

Jungling

Summoner's Insight for solo top lane, and the point in Summoner's Resolve is for jungling. If not jungling, just throw the point somewhere in the middle tree. I may add a larger section for this in the future, but for now this will suffice. I start with a Vampiric Scepter and grab Wolves then Ancient Golem. Make sure to hit after each Broken Wings swing to take advantage of her passive. Take Wraiths, Golems, then go back and get whichever you think is fit. I generally take Boots, but it's up to you. Get however many Health Potion and grab Red Buff from the Lizard Elder and go gank.

Runes

Greater Mark of Desolation
Her passive and extra armor penetration makes her attacks hurt.

Greater Seal of Armor
Helpful both in lane and jungle. Auto-attacks hurt early game otherwise.

Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist
Durability. Very helpful against crowd control champions and nukes.

Greater Quintessence of Health
Makers her healthy enough to go 1v1 with many champions.

Masteries

I enjoy building her fairly tanky. Her natural abilities make her incredibly versatile, as she can get around quickly with Broken Wings and Valor, and her Ki Burst and Blade of the Exile really wreck a lot of team fights. Thus, I enjoy getting her movement speed up naturally and increased buff duration. The points in the middle tree are to make sure that even if she's focused, she can survive long enough to get in there, Ki Burst and perhaps Broken Wings and try and finish off one or two with Blade of the Exile.

Items

Boots and Health Potions are helpful to get in for last hits and harassing. Health Potions are for survival in case of a gank or a hard exchange.

Vampiric Scepter is incredible in keeping her self-sustained. Exchanging blows won't be as difficult considering this combined with her passive keeps her strong. This is also the item that will build into Wriggle's Lantern.

Wriggle's Lantern is built from Vampiric Scepter. Even more sustainability with life steal and armor. Helps her clear waves of minions before she gets enough power to clear them with her Broken Wings and Ki Burst. Free ward is incredible also.

Mercury's Treads are self-explanatory.

Phage
Keeps her healthy and gives her extra damage. The slow is great also when without red buff. Builds into Frozen Mallet.

Frozen Mallet
Built from Phage. Even more health, damage, and guaranteed slow.

Atma's Impaler is a given for any Attack Damage character that gets a lot of health. The armor is also incredibly helpful as well in durability.

Warmog's Armor is good for the extra health for survivability and for Atma's Impaler.

Guardian Angel is the final item and can be switched out for a variety of other items. This can be switched out for Force of Nature or Randuin's Omen, but it depends on what your opponent's team consists of. I like Guardian Angel because it protects you in case they focus you down, but you should survive most team fights with the extra resistance and armor this great item provides.

Skill Sequence

Blade of the Exile should obviously be leveled whenever possible. Ki Burst is still something I believe should be leveled first. The hard crowd control, small area of effect stun, is incredibly helpful in both 1v1's, clearing waves of minions, and team fights. Broken Wings is something I think should be leveled second, especially when they buffed its damage, plus it's also another "crowd control" after three swings. And it's another area of effect ability that does quite well. Valor is very helpful, but you should be tanky enough without it, so level it last unless you really need it early.

Summoner Spells

Teleport
Map awareness and control. Teleport to a dragon fight/control, help out bottom lane, gank blue lane in case their jungle is warded, help your own jungle in case it's warded, etc, etc. It's a great spell that is incredibly powerful because of the ability to cross the entire map.

Flash
Escape, chase, etc. A great way to initiate when needed to.

Summary

I love her both in solo top lane and jungle. She's a very strong champion in these roles, and I've done pretty well with her in ranked play. I find her natural damage, tankiness, short crowd control cooldowns, and epic skins to be too good. Plus, she's incredibly fun compared to quite a few other champions. Try her out.
