S15 The Best Nidalee Guide By Multi Season Challenger OTP

By Judgementlol
Prologue

Otping Nidalee

Welcome go by Judgement and I've been playing Nidalee for roughly 5 years. Ive accumulated about 7 million mastery points with her and have climbed through pretty much every elo on the EUNE, EUW and NA servers. My peak ranks are Rank 1 on EUNE, Challenger 1100 LP on EUW, and Grandmaster 550 LP on NA with 130 ping.

In the past I used to main Lee Sin that's how I got my first Diamond rank. But during Season 9 I decided that Nidalee's healing was a much cooler way of helping teammates than just shielding them (that was literally the reason).

In the next chapters Im going to lay out everything I know relating to Nidalee If at least one person found this guide useful then that's job done for me.

Replays

I have watched thousands of replays from various Nidalee onetricks and know most of them including Chinese and Korean players. (Back in the day I would nerd out over every single Nidalee player account that was above Grandmaster literally like OhnePixel with skins.) My favorites are by far Sally, Flora, Zeyan, Sawyor, and that one Korean player who was hitting 80% winrate Challenger every few months with the same runes on different smurf accounts during Seasons 12 and 13.

Summoners + Starting Items

Starting Items

There isn't much selection in terms of starting items for the jungle. You can either go with Gustwalker Hatchling or Scorchclaw Pup, and you should always take a Health Potion.

Selection

In my opinion Gustwalker Hatchling is always the better option, although Scorchclaw Pup is widely played. For me the extra Movement Speed that can possibly save your life or the other way around get you a kill is way more important than just slowing a target.
Lately, I've been testing Scorchclaw Pup and for now I take it in team compositions with no setup. On the other hand when I have easy setup I take Gustwalker Hatchling to guarantee that my tempo matches every kill.

Summoner spells

Guys, let's be real we arent even able to select Ghost Cleanse these days.[/b]
You are gonna be stuck with your Smite it doesnt matter how much of a Bardinette lives inside you for the second one Flash is the only reasonable option. although Ignite seems like cool theorycrafting against champions like Hecarim the reality is we are not playing a 1v1 game. And having no flash makes your darkseal game way harder
Main Rune Page

Main Rune Page

Dark Harvest is an amazing rune for Nidalee. Her movement speed and mobility make it easy to gather high stacks, albeit Electrocute might be an option in games where you’ve got completely zero setup/laners help to get guaranteed 1v1 fights. Still its really flippy and truly you cant decide which option is better in which game based on champion select. Both good.
Sudden Impact is one of the most important runes for Nidalee and you should always play with it, and also around it. It generates insane true damage, and allows you to actually deal damage to people. Many players really underestimate importance of this rune Its consistently brining 1-2k damage per game on its own. People who run conqueror build without Sudden Impact rune are fools.
Grisly Mementos is just a filler rune there is no good option for this slot in the domination tree. Riot decided to give more power directly to Electrocute and Dark Harvest and remove Eyeball Collection from the game. I really miss Eyeball Collection It was the best rune for Nidalee giving her great win condition and power spike. Not much to say about runes themselves all 3 runes are playable for this slot and all together doesn’t bring much its just occasional vision score either through longer ward or shorter Oracle Lens and Stealth Ward cooldowns
Treasure Hunter is really good rune you should always take it. This is largely helping you reach soulstealer mejai’s way quicker and compensate for early dark seal. There are few outliners who are running Relentless Hunter but in my option treasure hunter is better in 99% of the games. Especially since Relentless Hunter nerfs it doesn’t give any flat movement speed nowadays. In the past it used to give base 8 Movement Speed out of combat upon taking it. Nowadays you need to actually kill people and u get way less Movement Speed
Legend: Haste is really great for Nidalee and I’ve been playing it since release. This rune is the main reason why I instantly swapped from Sorcery to Precision on the second runes tree. The ability to get your haste so early is amazing You no longer have to wait for 5 then 8 level from Transcendence you can get your haste even at lvl 5 if you kill bunch of people early on. This allows you to snowball and get many rotations in fights. Early game ability haste is really efficient, and your ultimate doesn’t require that much of cd so Legend: Haste trade off is amazing. Over all its just a replacement for Eyeball Collection worse one but still.
Coup De Grace is my personal choice, You can argue what’s the right choice there. Some people go thriumph others choose Cut Down. I believe that getting extra execute damage is more important especially in midgame with mejai’s soulstealer is all about getting the kill finished. I also like the synergy with Dark Harvest, because it procs at 50% health which means many times your dark harvest proc combined with Coup de Grace will deal those extra 8% damage. I think its quite powerful combo. I’ve seen many people especially Chinese players go Triumph and I respect that.

Rune Shards Insight

I've been really investigating rune shards situation over many years and this is pretty interesting because all 3 rune shards are played to some extent Ability Haste, Attack Speed and Adaptive Force. Most people play Attack Speed and that's what you should go for but if you are looking for more info there it is.

Attack Speed: is alright. It allows you to clear fast (you need to focus on autos) It definitely gives u an edge in lvl 3 skirmishes you can just auto people and it deals some damage. That's the thing with mages in early level their autos tend to deal more than actual spells and that's also a case in Nidalee early skirmishes. Your autos are really important if you want to win fights. Big downside to Attack Speed is lack of cooldowns. Your only source of reducing downtime is Legend: Haste.

Ability Haste: is my main rune that I use since 2022 or even longer. Its really amazing for me, but I can understand that its not made for everyone. Using Ability Haste is like giving up on certain teams in the name of value. I've always knew that value will outperform feeling inside league that's why I went for maining Ability Haste over attack speed. It was tough but nowadays I actually struggle to play Attack Speed. Bonus 8 ability haste you are getting is really efficient and it doesn't vanish like attack speed. Throughout entire game you are getting value out of it and the more AP the better value ur getting.

Adaptive Force: This is more of a memorial because it was played by some people few seasons ago nowadays I don't see anyone use it but double Adaptive Force was something and there were few poke Nidalee players who would go crazy with 8+ KDA's just playing around full range spears (mostly chinese/korean players though)

Other Runes

I'm not gonna go deep on other setups because that's my main setup I used for over 3k games in latest seasons.

Conqueror: Yes I tried it, and I don't really like it. Conqueror playstyle relies on landing many spears back to back to get any value, maintaining long fights, and actually getting front to back teams (tank support) which is not always the case. But if you actually like conqueror I would suggest you trying Conqueror with Domination tree this isn't a popular choice, people just copy Conqueror + Sorcery but its really bad to not utilize Sudden Impact and Treasure Hunter on Nidalee

Inspiration: second tree is sometimes used by challenger players but I feel like they are mostly proplayers addicted to the concept of getting free boots and building first item. Yeah its not too bad in optimal environment where both teams are always even its alright to get first item spike and enemy jungler items. Buuut I would only suggest it when you assume you can't do much in the game and its gonna be just items war. Also going Inspiration makes your cdr REAAAAALYYY low
Core Items

Items breakdown and Synergies with Nidalee

Lich Bane is the best item in the entire game that you can obtain as Nidalee. The amount of synergy these two have is just insane. 10 haste, great AP spike, movement speed, and actual burst in both autos, and Takedown. It's just impossible to describe how Lich Bane is directly designed for Nidalee. I've been Lich Bane rush ever since they removed Jungle specific items. And I don't understand how can some fall into Liandry's cult. Lich Bane is just amazing. It gives you more tempo, faster clear, and few know about it, but also attack speed. Lich Bane empowers your first auto after procking it by 50% bonus attack speed. That's really big it can help you in clearing wards. But the main point is that when you're running Ability Haste which I talked about in previous chapter you don't need more attack speed your attack speed is more than great using Lich Bane. It doesn't matter what kind of runes you run whether Conqueror or Dark Harvest even Electrocute. You should always play Lich Bane outside of proplay. This item is amazing early has great scaling and the best synergy with Nidalee champion. Also Lich Bane wintrade is always better for the last 3 years every single patch great Nidalee players run Lich Bane.

Sorcerer's Shoes are by far the best boots for Nidalee. The only con of them is the cost. Nowadays they are no longer rush item you can get them before Lich Bane if the game is chaotic and there are many fights. But you shouldn't rush them at 1100 gold. The main reason are AP scaling buffs that Nidalee received. You want to gain some ability power early on with your first back. This way you no longer have to rely on base damage and you gain some power.

Mejai's Soulstealer is an amazing item for Nidalee. It allows her to completely change the win condition and become a solo carry. You can provide a lot of value simply by not dying and maintaining the stacks. Mejai's Soulstealer is worth buying when:
  • You are at 8+ Dark Seal stacks
  • Your game is doomed and you need a miracle
  • Stomp game that can be easily secured by Mejai's
  • You got many frontlane/engage - simple way for free stacks

Shadowflame is a fun item but it excels when you are solo AP. The main issue of buying Shadowflame as second item is that you can't really get Void Staff therefore if enemy happens to stack resist and you got Lich Bane + Shadowflame so far you need to either abandon buying or get it without any magic pen so that's the main downside of Shadowflame. Other than that it's really strong 2nd item.

Rabadon's Deathcap is really juicy this season after AP ratio buffs. You should try to get it every single game at some point. I would recommend getting it 3rd always. If you are running Mejai's then you can go Lich Bane + Mejai's Soulstealer + Rabadon's Deathcap. When you are skipping Mejai's and want to stay on Dark Seal you should buy Rabadon's Deathcap as 3rd item. There is not much to it - really strong item, heavy damage spears.

Remaining items will be addressed eventually

General Tips Advanced

Essential Nidalee Knowledge

I Playstyle

Nidalee is not a real Assassin her damage is nowhere close to champions like Talon, Rengar or Heartsteel Dr. Mundo. Most of your damage comes from your spear which is a very inconsistent ability and your ultimate does nothing compared to those of other assassins. Thats why 90% of your fights should be played slowly focusing on a few ability rotations.

II Ultimate

Nidalee Aspect Of The Cougar brings you a significant amount of damage at levels 6, 11 and 16. It's a good power spike each level in your ultimate gives you approximately 200 extra damage only from cougar spells. You should always seek to achieve those levels before fights.

III Dark Seal & Mejai's Soulstealer

Losing 5 stacks on a Dark Seal effectively costs you around 400 gold. So if you die chasing a random kill and drop those stacks you are actively handing gold to the enemy team. On a larger scale dying with Mejai's Soulstealer costs you an additional 1000 gold in lost value. If you happen to be fed your death has the value of Mejai's Soulstealer combined with your shutdown what costs your team a 2000 gold loss. Understanding the true cost of dying especially with stacks is crucial for climbing as Nidalee.

IV Match & Avoid Jungle Theory

Generally, the jungle revolves around this concept you either try to match the enemy jungler because you assume you are stronger and can win every 2v2, 3v3 or you try to avoid them because your matchups are "bad". Nidalee big advantage is that you can match pretty much every jungler. Most fights are good for you whether you are diving or the enemy team is doing so.You can very often find kills in these fights. Your weakness is the lack of them. It gets difficult when you have to 1v1 champions from 100% to 0 health because your champion just lacks damage. Nidalee wants to skirmish and doesn't like slow, scaling games where people avoid trading and nothing happens.

V Creating Skirmishes

Consider a scenario where no one on the map is initiating fights. How can you create opportunities in such a passive game state? When your team is hesitant to engage you can often force the enemy team to take action instead.
One effective method is to invade and steal their jungle camps. This puts pressure on the enemy jungler especially if you end up with, say, five camps while they only have three. If they continue farming passively, you will gradually build a significant experience advantage. The enemy jungler is likely to react they might start an objective force a gank or often chase you into your jungle this creates the skirmish you lack

VI Raptor Camp Theory

This isn't specific to Nidalee but it's something that applies to many junglers. The raptors camp is an important objective for every jungler because of its positioning. If you lose control over your raptors, the enemy can use that area to gank side lane with a strong angle, cross through mid for a gank or simply invade and leave without much risk. It's easy to invade the raptor camp and difficult to punish the invader. That’s why as Nidalee you should prioritize taking and defending your raptor camp sometimes even going for a raptors to raptors invade.

To better understand this, compare raptors to other camps if someone invades your gromp, wolves, or even golems, they’re more committed and at higher risk of dying. But the raptor camp is placed so poorly that anyone in the river can swing by, take it in five seconds and leave safely. Even if you see them doing it there's no nearby lane that can reliably collapse and help stop them. This applies to both red and blue side.

Pathings

Nidalee Jungle Paths

Nidalee has the highest amount of viable pathings in the entire game. In this section, I'm going to showcase 10 of the most commonly used pathings. A few of them come from Chinese players, while others were created by me. I'm not going to fully describe the usage of each pathing here—maybe in a future update.

Pathing Summary & Notes

Explaining pathing details would take up more space than everything up to this point, so I'm not going to do it in this guide. In games where your lanes can fight 2v2 or 3v3, the available pathings are pretty much endless you can do many things to bait a fight on the enemy jungler. In your average game, however you should stick to the first 3.
Nidalee Clears
When it comes to Nidalee's early clearing your approach depends on what rune shard you play as I mentioned in the #Main Runepage. If you are a Attack Speed player (which is highly likely) just follow the clearning goat youtube/lokane. Keep in mind that the clear doesnt have to be pixel perfect The most important part is to use your spells in a decent way maximizing speed is just for the record.

Nidalee Mechanics Covered

This chapter is a placeholder for the video that im gonna create and add in here (one day xd) explaining secret nidalee mechanics and trust me they are a lot of them.

Early game Concepts

Useful concepts in early game

Level One

Remember that your passive makes you the fastest level one champion in the game you can use that to put level one ward on enemy raptors every single game without any risk. Having vision on enemy raptors allows you to know enemy pathing 100% of the games. If enemy jungler doesnt show up on raptors at 2.25 hes pathing to redside, if he does show up his clear is to botside

Enemy JG

Always think about enemy jungler pathing before the game starts if you do so the game becomes way easier u can predict the fights and control them.

Preparation

The best habit you can develop in league of legends is always checking enemy resources before entering a fight so if you are about to gank bot u should always check their items and summoner spells even if its a early gank. This way u get a habit to do it every single time. Ive seen many challenger players fail with that you can do better

Primal Surge Value

Your E is not only scaling with missing health but also gives attack speed. There are situations where using it for the Attack Speed is way more important than just restoring health. I lost plenty of fights because of trying to save my dying teammate in early levels (he died anyway) and i couldnt clean up 1v2 because of attack speed shortage. I know it sounds crazy but thats the reality putting attack speed on urself and getting 2 kills is way better than trying to save 100% death ally whos gonna do nothing with it.

General Early Game Focus

Once you can play the champion on autopilot and focus on the game your main focus should be planning 30 seconds in advaned forseeing the game and having answers ready. This way you are gonna get efficient at what you do instead of wobbling around and losing time its peculiarly imporatnt in early game when your plan is stable
Mid Game Concepts

Useful concepts in mid game

Midgame is the longest time frame in League of Legends. It starts after the first tower falls and lasts until you get to Elder Drake or high amounts of items. Most League games finish in midgame.

After taking first tower the game becomes really easy macro wise especially with Nidalee
  • You can easily play through lanes, take free wins like deep vision, take enemy camps, etc.
  • When your team plays high on the map, you should ignore some of your camps and play in the enemy jungle.
  • Nidalee is okay at sieging and poking. Taking deep priority to move to another tower and siege it out is a good option when there is nothing else to do and is considered to be a natural game progression.

On the other hand, when you lose the first tower and enter midgame that way, the roles are reversed. The same concepts apply to you, but there is always a way to use them!
  • If the enemy jungler doesn't respect the lanes and invades you without syncing with waves you can oneshot him!
  • Your job is either ignoring the tempo they're generating and playing with your sidelaner or you trying to cross their rotation through the jungle. If the enemy team doesnt escort their ADC and goes immediately to siege or dive the second tower you can easily catch them on rotation and turn the game around.

Big objectives for Nidalee are getting level 11 Aspect Of The Cougar and finishing your jungle item. You usually get these two pretty close to each other. Level 11 is the biggest damage spike you're going to get in the game (except for Rabadon's, lol). In theory, this is your timer to do a lot of fighting and get something meaningful. That's because midgame skill points don't mean much on Nidalee maxing Bushwhack is dead it doesn't give anything except traps amount. Therefore once you reach level 11 your next damage spike is 5 levels away. Fighting 5v5 at level 11 is always better for Nidalee compared to fighting at level 13/14/15.

[unnecessary] Dodges as Nidalee OTP (master+)

Yapping about Nidalee in Soloq

Being a Nidalee otp doesnt come easy, so i would suggest you play at least two champions The main problems you are going to face are teamcomps because league of legends is heavily driven by esports many people play soloq like its esports. If you reach master+ elo your gonna get many esport driven players and Nidalee place in proplayer is... non existant so its pretty normal for nidalee to be exeptional pick for both proplayer and soloq. European soloq lies on AP mids and enchanter support thats the reallity we cannot change. Your gonna spend a lot time playing with those people that make your champion 10 times worse by picking Janna and Viktor.

Actual Dodges

if you want to maximize winning you should dodge enemy champions rather than yours stat chceckers and big counters should be mainly addressed, champions like Dr. Mundo, Naafiri or enemy Draven Nautilus botlane

S15 dodges

Sadly dodging is completely bugged in this season, many people cant even squeeze 3 dodges a week I myself dodged a game in day x and 3 days later my next dodge took -15lp, so the cooldown nowadays is random.
