About Me
Hey, Hope you enjoyed my guide, I'm an old league player who played since season 3. I always enjoyed Cho'Gath and particularly AP Cho'Gath, but with new items and runes tank Cho'Gath also became good top while AP is nice mid. I see my guide as the best out there as I have my own take on the items, I'm currently the only new updated guide with both AP and Tank.Rod of ages is because I like to have something stacking with my builds. My guide comes up as the top 1 search on this site, kinda speaks for itself being the best one #1
Items
Cho'Gath has gotten a big upswing after the "new" items, like
Stormsurge it is the best burst item in the game. It sadly has gotten nerfed couple of times, but the item is still strong. This item is very good for the AP Cho'Gath side, the other item that is "new" and I use in this build is
Riftmaker which is an AP stacking damage item which is very good part of your damage paackage. The other items on the standard build are old items,
Shadowflame and
Dead Man's Plate, We all know what Shadowflame does but simply it gives 110 AP and magic & true damage critically strike against enemies below 40% maximum health for 120% damage. Dead Man's is for armor but mostly as addition way to getting more health and having movement speed.
A core item in all build are
Rod of Ages, I think the stacking works well with Cho'Gath. Ideal to buy it first item because you reach full stacks earlier, the other core item being Riftmaker and Hexteach Rocketbelt of course!
Riftmaker
15 Ability Haste, 70 Ability Power and 350 Health. UNIQUE Passive: For each second in combat with champions, deal 2% increased damage, stacking up to 4 times for a total of 8% increased damage. At maximum stacks, gain [10% for Melee | 6% for Ranged] omnivamp, UNIQUE Passive: Gain ability power equal to 2% bonus health.
Hextech Rocketbelt
20 Ability Haste, 70 Ability Power and 300 Health. UNIQUE Active: Dash 125 to 275 units in the target direction, though not through terrain, unleashing an arc of 7 rockets in the same direction that deal 100 (+10% of ability power) magic damage to enemies hit (40 second cooldown)

PASSIVE: Affecting an enemy Champion icon champion with an ability permanently increases your Mana icon maximum mana by 25, up to 250 mana. Mana gained from this effect preserves your current mana. After reaching 250 bonus mana, permanently restore 1% of your missing mana every 5 seconds

PASSIVE: After taking damage from an enemy champion, gain health regeneration equal to 3 (+4% of your missing health) over 10 seconds. If attacked while already under the effect of Second Wind, the duration will refresh.

PASSIVE: Every 8 Monster icon monsters or enemy Minion icon minions that die near you permanently generates a stack. Each stack grants 3 bonus health. This effect can stack indefinitely. After reaching 15 stacks (120 monsters or minions), your base and bonus health are permanently increased by 3.5%
Runes Damage Inspiration

PASSIVE: Basic attacking an enemy champion grants [140% for Melee | 80% for Ranged] bonus attack speed as well as make your bonus attack speed ignore the attack speed cap (2.5) for your next 3 basic attacks on-attack. Attack resets do not consume a stack of Hail of Blades, but do benefit from the bonus attack speed. The triggering attack benefits from Hail of Blades and will always consume a stack. Hail of Blades lasts 3 seconds, and consuming a stack against enemy champions refreshes the duration to 3 seconds. The buff stops refreshing if the basic attack targeting a champion is cancelled, Cooldown: 10 seconds.

PASSIVE: Damaging champions with impaired movement or actions deals 10-45 bonus true damage (based on level). Cooldown: 4 seconds, Activates on damage occurring after the impairment.

PASSIVE: Gain 6 trinket haste per Memento stack, up to 108 at maximum stacks, earn a Memento stack whenever scoring a champion takedown, up to 18 stacks.

PASSIVE: Gain 6 (+ 5 per Bounty Hunter stack) ultimate haste, up to 31 at 5 stacks. Earn a Bounty Hunter stack whenever scoring a Damage rating takedown against an enemy Champion icon champion, up to one per unique champion.

PASSIVE: After 12 minutes (reduced by 45 seconds whenever scoring a Damage rating takedown against an enemy champion), you gain Slightly Magical Boots Slightly Magical Boots for free Gold free. Slightly Magical Boots are identical to Boots Boots and can be upgraded as if it were the item. If the inventory is full while receiving the boots, they will appear as soon as a slot in the inventory is available

Runes Tank Inspiration

PASSIVE: Entering combat generates 1 stack every second for the next 3 seconds, refreshing the duration with each instance of combat and stacking the effect up to 4 times. At maximum stacks, your next basic attack On-hit icon on-hit within 5 seconds against an enemy Champion icon champion consumes all stacks to deal bonus magic damage equal to (Melee role 3.5% / Ranged role 2.1%) of your maximum health, Heal power icon heal you for (Melee role 3 / Ranged role 1.8) (+ (Melee role 1.2% / Ranged role 0.72%) of your maximum health), and permanently grant (Melee role 7 / Ranged role 4) bonus health

PASSIVE: Generate stacks every 0.5 seconds on enemy Turret icon turrets within 600 units, up to 6 after 3 seconds. Your next basic attack against a turret with 6 stacks is empowered to consume all stacks to deal 100 (+ 35% of your maximum health) bonus physical damage. Demolish cannot be triggered against the same turret again by anyone for 3.5 seconds. Stacks expire by one every 1 second if you move out of range. Demolish activates after 45 seconds of game time

Cho'Gath is lacking movement so chasing is something that can be hard, so having people in the team with stuns and slowing helps a lot. Dead Man's is an item also worth building because of that giving some more movement speed, with the new boots being a buy option that can help as well. Cho'Gath can have some hard match up in mid lane playing against Zed for example who can jump around your Q because hitting that will be key for any attack, Cho'Gath really has an old kit so your ultimate will be the strongest tool. Getting you more HP than the rest is really what makes him good, so remember to ult minions, monsters, bigger monsters and champions most important. Champions don't have a limit so keeping it just a bit longer for a kill can be worth it in the long run, but you should always use your ult when it is up making it less time getting stacks. In the end meaning you have more stacks, a tank which is really nice having damage also is how I would describe Cho'Gath. He is an easy champion to play and should not be a problem for anyone to play, he can be a good champion to climb the lower ranks. He rarely gets used in higher ELO if it's not Baus playing him.

I am slowly coming back and now playing Aurora mid surprisingly, also thinking about picking up the new ADC. Having some fun playing something new and usually does champions are broken and not like this guide champion, with a kit older than anything lol.
