Summoner Spells

Ghost might sometimes be a nice niche choice but there are way more useful summoner spell options for Ivern. He can get all the extra movespeed he needs by just buying Frostfang and that's basically all he needs.
Heal is basically one of the best bets if you plan to play this champion somewhere on Twisted Treeline as the map does not require teleporting to long distances (plus there are no wards). You are going to be way more useful with Heal on your hands.

Abilities

Ivern loves all non-epic monsters and will never harm them. He cannot damage or attack them and they won't hurt Ivern aswell. Right clicking any non-epic jungle monster will initiate a 2.5 second channel that places the camp the clicked monster is in within a grove upon completion.

Placing a grove requires
147-176 health and 149-111 mana, based on your champion's level.

The grove matures over
40-6 seconds (based on Ivern's level). Right clicking any monster of a camp with a fully matured grove or using Smite after placing a grove will free the whole camp, giving Ivern its experience and gold bounties.

Using
Smite on a grove will force it to free the camp instantly, without a need to wait for that grove to mature. Releasing the camp with a matured grove takes 0.38 seconds. During that time, any damage or hard crowd control effect can interrupt you.

After
Ivern hits level 5, every time he frees a Red Brambleback or a Blue Sentinel, he leaves a sapling on the ground which can be picked up by his ally, consuming it and getting a copy of a buff (red or blue, respectively). The sapling chooses the nearest ally in range.
This ability is what makes Ivern so peculiar and memorable champion. It makes his jungling something different, in contrast to other champions playing that role. Some players might call him strong because of his style of jungling but it's actually his greatest weakness: he has nearly the worst jungle clear speed of all junglers in League as he needs to visit most camps (ones he won't smite) twice: first time to place a grove and second time to release the camps. On top of that, he can't really contest ungroved jungle camps (and camps with unmatured grove if he has his Smite on cooldown) because it's how his passive ability works.

It's not so bad, though. Firstly, if a camp is missing its largest monster,
Ivern will still initiate a channel on right clicking but will instantly free the remaining monsters from that camp without spending health or mana. Also, the active grove will instantly mature if its camp's largest monster got slain in the process. These are some useful but not really well-known things about his passive.

Regarding buff transfers, the sapling left after releasing the buff lasts 1 minute and disappears if it is not picked by an ally within that time, so please remember to ping your allies as soon as you will let the buff go. It won't be there for them forever.
The buff transfer rule works the other way round too: if a jungle buff has been killed by an ally, a sapling is left for
Ivern to pick. It lasts the same time, so if your allies are too impatient for you to free the buff and take it on their own, the only thing they do is nerfing your gold income by that, but you can still come and obtain the buff. I by myself enjoy this feature very much.

One more important thing to note is that Immolate aura which is granted by some items (
Bami's Cinder, Sunfire Aegis, Enchantment: Cinderhulk) to the wielder of this passive ability will not damage monsters with it. So, they have no reason to attack back. Simply perfect.

To recapitulate,
Friend of the Forest is Ivern's bread and butter. It creates the environment for unique interactions and innovative jungle paths.

Throws a vine in the target direction, dealing 80 / 125 / 170 / 215 / 260 (+70% AP) magic damage to the first enemy hit and rooting them for 1.2 / 1.4 / 1.6 / 1.8 / 2 seconds.

Ivern and his allies can target enemies rooted by Rootcaller to dash to them, placing themselves at their attack range from the target.

Rootcaller can hit monsters and allow Ivern to dash to them, although it won't deal damage.
There are two things to be said about this ability. Firstly, it's your fundamental hard crowd control tool. It can hit jungle monsters, enemy minions and enemy champions. Its duration is about 1 second lower than Morgana's Dark Binding, which is the most annoying crowd control ability of that type. It provides an amazing anti-kiter potential, as you will be able to make allies (especially melee ones) to dash at their attack range which gives them at least one free extra attack on the enemy you pick. This is the reason why Ivern has an amazing synergy with bruisers and control tanks (I recommend you to go scroll down to Synergy chapter for more details).

Secondly, there is a famous bug with this ability. If you will double tap it after hitting someone, you won't dash over the walls and that happens even if your
Brushmaker's extra range is inactive sometimes. This is why I advise all players to right click the target instead of recasting Rootcaller, as it never bugs and always dashes you to your attack range, even over walls.

Keep in mind that
Rootcaller's dash is stopped by Poppy's Steadfast Presence, so don't ever try to pass this spell with your dash, you can only do that with Morgana's Black Shield on you. Moreover, if you have the bonus range from Brushmaker, it will also count as your attack range for the purpose of the dash component, which is why you can't dash over walls after being in or exitting from a bush. It does not treat you as a melee champion anymore.

Grows a patch of brush at the target location for 30 seconds, revealing the area within and around it for 3 seconds. Brushmaker spawns more brush if used near terrain or other brush (see its radius on a screenshot to the right for clarity).

Ivern stores a charge of Brushmaker once per 40 / 36 / 32 / 28 / 24 seconds up to a maximum of 3 stored at once.

While in brush,
Ivern's basic attacks have 450 range and deal 20 / 30 / 40 / 50 / 60 (+30% AP) bonus magic damage. These bonuses persist for 3 seconds after leaving brush. The bonus magic damage also affects towers.

These brushes cannot hide Dragons, Rift Heralds, Baron Nashors, but are able to hide any other being, ranging from minions and jungle monsters to champions, both allied and hostile.

Champions interacting with brushes (
Teemo, Rengar, Nidalee, Caitlyn or even another Ivern) will also benefit from bushes created with Brushmaker, no matter if they are allied or not.

If placed near an allied tower, the brush will hide allies but not enemies. It also works the other way: placing it near an enemy tower will reveal allies but hide enemies.
As soon as you'll master this ability, you will fall in true love with it. Ivern is the only champion in League of Legends which is able to grow brushes at the moment. You are able to grow a brush literally in any point of the map, even inside other brushes. This opens a wide road for experimenting with brush placements. There are some things to keep in mind, without which you won't effectively use it.

First, every charge is important. Treat your brushes like
Gangplank treats his barrels. You can make chain combos off your brushes, just like he does with his powder kegs. The purpose of these is the only thing that differs one ability from another.

Second, brushes can be placed inside other brushes. This allows you to gain vision of them without entering a brush or wasting your
Rootcaller for that. Please note that brushes placed inside other brushes won't disable vision of its contents. It means that if you brush the warded brush, the placed ward will also reveal your brush's contents. Brushes aren't coded to be recurrent; instead, they are stacking. Similarily, if you will connect your brush to the warded brush, its contents will be also revealed by the same ward. This also works the other way: if you will brush the ward, connecting your brush to existing brush, this same ward will also reveal the connected brush's contents.

Third, a good brush on allies prevents enemies from attacking them and using unit-targeted abilities on them. In that case, your enemies got two choices: either have to spend a ward to keep sticking to your allies (and most likely they will already be prepared to strike back) or retreat and leave them alone. Either case is convenient for your team, so spending a brush to cover an ally from a finisher or a deadly crowd control is a good usage of that ability.

Fourth,
Ivern can apply Rylai's Crystal Scepter's slow with Brushmaker-empowered basic attacks. This is one of these few attack modifier types which is actually able to apply some spell effects, other one being Kayle with her Righteous Fury, with difference being that she cannot apply bonus damage to structures (towers, inhibitors or the nexus), but Ivern can.

Below are some spoilers with screenshots on how to place brushes effectively. These are just some of them, so I strongly encourage you to go into Practice Tool and seek for more interesting places to brush. I'm sure you will have a nice time practicing!

Efficient Brushmaker usage examples



Ivern gifts a Triggerseed to the target allied champion, himself or Daisy, shielding them for 2 seconds . This shield mitigates up to 75 / 110 / 145 / 180 / 215 (+80% AP) damage.

At the end of its duration,
Triggerseed bursts, dealing 60 / 80 / 100 / 120 / 140 (+80% AP) magic damage to all nearby enemies and slowing them by 40 / 45 / 50 / 55 / 60% for 2 seconds.

Triggerseed gives all the benefit from its usage to its shielded target. And it's not just about the shield. For example, if its burst finishes a minion,
the gold reward attached to it will be awarded to the shielded target instead of the caster. In case when the burst finishes off enemy champion(s), the killing blow (or a shut down) will be awarded to the shielded target aswell. The only thing which
Ivern receives when shielding allies is the amount of damage shielded.
Probably, this was intended by developers as our happy little tree is supposed to be a supportive champion which gives gifts from the forest. And if it's a gift, why should he take something which was already gifted? :)
This ability is why Ivern often gets called a shield bot. This shield also plays a vital role in fights as one single well-placed Triggerseed is able to win you whole fight. Pick your targets wisely as the slow and damage can be of good use while securing kills or helping your team to have a better stickiness to the enemy target(s).

I would call this yet another bread and butter ability of
Ivern's kit, just as the effect is so unique to him. If making brushes is something which solely belongs to him at the moment, so does the exploding shield.

Everything in nature knows sharing is caring. So does
Ivern: he always remembers to be supportive instead of greedy. Putting it on your engager during his engage will significantly increase the probability of winning the teamfight, as it allows others to stick better to their targets, making that more problematic for enemies to, for example, outkite your engager. This is also a notable reason of his great synergy with any other area of effect slows ( Ashe, Miss Fortune and so on).

Ivern summons his sentinel friend Daisy at his side, who remains on the field for 60 seconds as a controllable minion.

While Daisy is active, this ability can be used to move her to the target location. You can also use Alt + Right Click for that purpose.

Daisy has the following stats:
- Health: 1250/2500/3750 (+50% AP)
- Attack Damage: 70/100/170 (+30% AP)
- Attack Speed: 0.613 (+30/50/70%)
- Range: 150
- Armor: 15/40/90 (+5% AP)
- Magic Resist: 15/40/90 (+5% AP)
- Movement Speed: 419

Killing Daisy will grant
50 gold to her killer.

Daisy gains 25% bonus movement speed for the first
5 seconds after spawning.

Daisy's attacks versus champions apply Flower Power stacks, removing them from her previous target. Her next attack after gaining 2 stacks will have bonus range, send a shockwave to knock all enemies in line for
1 second. After that, stacking is disabled for 3 seconds.

Daisy prioritizes enemies rooted by
Rootcaller and benefits from the ability's dash.

Frankly speaking, I am highly recommending you to use the key combination and not recasting your ultimate, as our treeman's sentinel friend AI coding leaves much to be desired. For example, you can't R+click an inhibitor or a nexus. Daisy won't understand you like that and will only move to it, but won't attack it.

Daisy is your companion, your personal frontlane and yet another good reason of
Ivern's great synergy with melee frontlane champions: it just doubles the frontlane and adds a good source of hard crowd control for tanks which are usually lacking it (for example, take Dr. Mundo: he got slows, but not even a single source of hard crowd control, which is compensated by Daisy).

Another good use of Daisy is made with fighters (
Garen, Illaoi, Xin Zhao and another similar champions), as they want to have a frontlaner to follow him up. Ivern's Daisy is perfect for that matter as well.

Use her well and never brainlessly spam her: using her to take a Dragon, a Herald or Baron Nashor is always a good idea, though.
