Introduction

Hello! I'm Duosora and you are on my proper... ahm, a Kled guide.
There we go!

Before we proceed to the guide, I'd like to thank a bunch of great people which put their love into playing and exploring Kled, located at the Kled Mains Discord. If you haven't found what you seek in this guide or just want to give thanks to them, please visit the discord to throw in some opinions or comments you have got! ;)

Pros and Cons

Pros

+ Renekton-level early game (very strong).
+ Able to kite without much problem.
+ Complicated, but very rewarding champion.
+ Very high all-in potential.
+ Fun to play.
+ Meme of Noxus.
+ Yasuo's worst nightmare.

- Kled's kit literally screams: this lane is MY property!
- Every time you are picking Kled, you are going on a war. You won't run away, you won't ever surrender. This map is your property and you are going to kick any intruder away from it at all costs!
- By saying that Kled has a Renekton-level early game, I mean that he has a lot of pressure tools which deal significant damage to your enemy, zoning him from your property. Never miss an opportunity!
- Kled is hard to master, yet mastering him is truly rewarding. You will be able to 1v9 when you'll master this champion, plus he counters many other champions which are problematic to others. Like Yasuo, Kayle or Tryndamere. Not Darius, though.
- The kiting ability of Kled is impressive. While dismounted, he gains attack range and movement speed towards enemy champions.
Cons

- Predictable if enemy knows how Kled works.
- Hard crowd control vulnerability.
- Lack of decent escape mechanics.
- The weakest unit in-game when dismounted.
- Countered by ranged poke champions.
- Hard to master.
- Skaarl is a coward.

- If you would like to master Kled, you must be warned that his dismounted form makes him the weakest unit in game. While off Skaarl, a well-timed Demacian Justice, Feast, Noxian Guillotine, Primordial Burst or Wind Slash executes him without a problem.
- He is very vulnerable to any sort of hard crowd control and, despite having a variety of engaging tools, he lacks escape methods except Jousting which is pretty unreliable way of disengaging.
- Another downside of Kled is similar to Gnar's: you cannot fully control his steroid ( Violent Tendencies): you can only see its cooldown and plan your engages in advance. It makes Kled pretty predictable champion: if you wasted your steroid on minions, you won't all-in an enemy.
- Champions like Teemo, Jayce, Vayne, Quinn or similar ones are the champions you gonna hate. They got good damage and can poke you from a safe distance, out of your reach. Poking is the thing which Kled hates more than anything else. Damn cowards...

Runes

Kled clearly has the highest effective health rate in game, so runes must be focused on increasing his damage instead of his durability, which is why I have selected these runes in header.

Why these choices? When to pick which keystone?

Conqueror vs Press the Attack
- Pick Conqueror whenever you are facing a tanky champion: tanks sure dislike when you unleash a rain of true damage to them by your Violent Tendencies attacks combined with this keystone. It was born to melt tanks down, no matter if they are health tanks or armor/mr tanks, this rune will get 'em all Skaarl! ;)

- Pick Press the Attack whenever you are sure that you are facing a bruiser champion, which isn't as armored as tanks are but still requires notable damage bonus to get vanquished (e.g. Jax, Xin Zhao or Renekton). Combined with your Violent Tendencies, it will provide at least your fourth (and most powerful) attack a notable damage bonus which you need to get. Absolutely a must when facing these guys.

Why these rune choices?

- Triumph over other options as you are not a ranged carry for using Overheal (enemies will blow up your shield faster than you'll build it) and you have no mana to utilize Presence of Mind which leaves you with one choice.
- Legend: Tenacity over all others, definitely. This rune is so effective on Kled compared to both alternatives! When fully stacked, this is your free Mercury's Treads, but without movement speed and magic resistance. That combined with the fact of Kled having insanely high effective health will make him notably harder to kill and control.
- Last Stand has the best performance with Kled and gives him way more damage than Coup de Grace or Cut Down. Yes, this champion ain't Tryndamere or Kayle which can simply push their 'outplay button' and go ham on low health, utilizing the rune to its extent, but remember that Skaarl's and Kled's health bars are still separate. While being safe, Kled can use the full benefit of this rune keeping Skaarl's health bar about 30% of its maximum. Definitely don't skip it.

- Celerity is just really so broken on Kled due to insane synergy with his item build, his mechanics and his kit. It grows up his damage from the extra speed of Jousting, procced Phage, bonus speed towards enemies when unmounted... There really is a whole lot of things which are utilized by this rune choice. Try it once and you'll fall in love with how well it works on him!
- Gathering Storm is your late game investment: whenever you fail to close games quick enough (which shouldn't be a problem as you're playing a champion which is able to close games quickly), it will prevent your power from falling off late game. As an alternative option, you can also use Scorch against harder matchups.

Returning Skaarl

Skaarl! Come back, buddy! Skaarl?

When Skaarl loses all her health, she flees and frees Kled from all crowd control and negative buffs. But then Kled can only rely on his own health and deals lesser damage against enemy champions with his attacks in exchange for doubled attack range.

To get his steed back, Kled must stack Courage. For this, he only has his attacks, Pocket Pistol and Violent Tendencies. The knowledge on how to stack Courage bar in a fast and effcient way is one of these things defining a great Kled player.

Table:
  • Minion kill = +4 Courage.
  • Champion kill = +20 Courage.
  • Assist = +20 Courage. There is a 3 second cooldown between assists.
  • Damaging a tower = +4 Courage.
  • Damaging an enemy champion = +15 Courage.
  • Damaging Dragon / Baron Nashor = +4 Courage.
  • Using a Pocket Pistol = +5 Courage for each pellet hitting the enemy champion, dragon or baron (up to +25 Courage).

Tips:
  • You won't get Courage from any jungle pack except Dragon and Baron Nashor .
  • Kled won't gain any Courage from dodged attacks (for example, by Jax's Counter Strike).
  • Kled can cast Pocket Pistol when rooted, the efect will be applied, but there will be no knockback.
  • If you have your Violent Tendencies up, your next 4 attacks will stack Courage much faster (full proc on an enemy champion will give you +60 Courage).
  • It's sometimes better to remount with a Pocket Pistol vs melee champions since it'll knock you back to safety.

Combos:
Fast Skaarl = Pocket Pistol+4x Violent Tendencies+{ Titanic Hydra}+ Pocket Pistol
{ Titanic Hydra is purely optional and is used to speed up the combo }
{ I've got called a scripter many times for doing this combo with a lightning speed }

Cheese'n'Out = Violent Tendencies+ Pocket Pistol to cross the thin wall with Skaarl returned. Use it when you are around 50 Courage for maximal efficiency.

Matchups

Thank you, fellow Kled Mains subreddit for a helpful cheat sheet regarding matchups! I have quickly arranged it here just to make sure you will have them all in this guide aswell. I'm inserting my extended tips over time to explain these short ones (and they are not the best grammar-wise but... we have what we have anyways).
