+10% Attack Speed
+9 Adaptive (5.4 AD or 9 AP)
Hey Guys. My ingame name is ImSello. My Current rank is Diamond 4 and my main role is jungle since season 3.
First of all I hope you get all the information I want to give because my english is not the best.
I'm not a real Gragas main at the moment because I prefer playing Elise and Kindred but I earned a lot of experience in playing Gragas past seasons.
+Damage in early game
+Strong early ganks
+Empowered Auto Hit from Drunken Rage
+Mobility due to Body Slam
+Can go through walls
+able to throw enemy carries into your team
+sustain duo to Happy Hour
+High AoE Damage output/color]
+High burst potential
+ Body Slam + Flash combo
Gragas is a magic damage based champion with mobility, CC, Damage, Selfhealing and Tankyness. Before his reworked Gragas was a midlaner.
Now he is comfortable on many lanes. There are ways to play him as support, top lane, still mid lane and jungle.
In my opinion he should be played primary as a jungler because its more worth it than playing him on other lanes.
All of Gragas spells are able to deal AoE damage. That's why his jungle clear is pretty good.
Predator your next gank will end up in a kill or the enemy has to burn his flash because he can't really escape from you. Also with the extra damage from Predator you can easily burst the enemy. Predator is also very effective to counter gank the enemy. You can response fast to enemy jungler ganks because as soon as you see him ganking you can activate Predator and counter gank the lane he ganks.
Sudden Impact is Body Slam. Body Slam procs Sudden Impact because it is a dash. Gragas will gain magic penetration after using Body Slam. This will help you to burst enemies and you will be able to deal more damage.
Gragas you have a CC based ability kit. Cheap Shot will ensure you that you will deal more damage to movement impaired targets. I guess there is nothing more to explain.
Eyeball Collection is pretty simple: Every kill up to 10 kills will grant extra adaptive AP (up to 20AP + 10AP when you reach 10 kills). As Gragas you have a lot of damage and usually you get many kills. That's why you will earn extra adaptive AP from Eyeball Collection for sure. Instead of Eyeball Collection you can take Zombie Ward. In my opinion it is pretty good as well.
Zombie Ward ensure you extra adaptive AP or AD. Normally you will get 20 AP + 10 AP after killing the maximum amount of wards for sure because as a jungler you will clear many wards.
There are 3 reasons for taking Zombie Ward.
1. As a Jungler you should buy Sweeping Lens as soon as possible. That’s why Zombie Ward will proc often.
2. Because Zombie Ward will proc often you will place a lot of zombie ward in the course of the game. It will help you to get to know where the enemy Jungler is and help your teammates prevent getting ganked.
3. Your amount of AP will increase. Your burst potential will increase.
Relentless Hunter you can take Ravenous Hunter. Ravenous Hunter will heal you for 1,5% (+2,5% per Bounty Hunter stack) of the damage dealt by your abilities (up to 14% at 5 stacks). On the other hand Relentless Hunter will grant you 10 out of combat movement speed (+9 per Bounty Hunter Stack). You have to chose between out of combat movement speed and healing from abilities. It is up to you.
Sorcery. You want to get as much ap as you can from your runes to deal the most damage possible in the early game. All abilities scales with AP ratio. That’s the reason why Sorcery should be your choice in reference to the second rune tree.
Waterwalking grants you movement speed and an adaptive bonus of ap or ad when you are in the river. As a Jungler you often fight in the river against the enemy Jungler or fighting around objectives like drake or rift herald . In those situations you need to be strong as possible. Also it is a good combination with Celerity.
Gathering Storm is another opportunity instead of Waterwalking. Gathering storm will grant you a huge amount of AP depending on the length of the game. It’s up to you which one you will take.
Gragas you want to engage, find picks and want to be as fast as you can to get more impact. That's why you take Celerity.
Description:INNATE: Gragas heals for 6% maximum health upon using an ability.
STATIC COOLDOWN: 8
Tips:While moving from camp to camp you can use your spells to heal up. In the early game you should do this only if you have Blue Buff because other wise you won't have enough mana left to clear your camps fast enough.
Description:ACTIVE: Gragas rolls a cask to the target location, granting Sight icon sight around it and fermenting over 2 seconds, increasing its damage and Slow icon slow strength, up to a maximum of 150%.
After 4 seconds or upon reactivation the cask Barrel Roll 2 explodes, dealing magic damage to all surrounding enemies, reduced by 30% against minions, and Slow icon slowing them for 2 seconds.
MAGIC DAMAGE: 80 / 120 / 160 / 200 / 240 (+ 70% AP)
SLOW: 40 / 45 / 50 / 55 / 60%
Tips:Use Barrel Roll at the beginning of clearing a camp because after 2 seconds it deals the most possible damage. You don't need to count those 2 seconds because after 2 seconds its colour is red and it starts shaking.
When you fight an enemy you should use barrel roll immediately after knocking them up with Body Slam because they are slowed and stugged for less than a second. Your Cask can charge up its damage and the enemy has no chance to get out of its range.
Also Barrel Roll is nice to get in range for you Body Slam while you chase someone down because Barrel Roll slows enemies after its explosion.
ACTIVE: Gragas reduces incoming damage for 2.5 seconds and channels for 0.75 seconds, retaining his ability to move but becoming unable to use abilities or basic attacks for the duration.
Upon completing the Drunken Rage 2 channel, Gragas' next basic attack within 5 seconds gains 50 bonus range and deals bonus magic damage to the target and nearby enemies, capped at 300 against monsters.
DAMAGE REDUCTION: 10 / 12 / 14 / 16 / 18% (+ 4% per 100 AP)
BONUS MAGIC DAMAGE: 20 / 50 / 80 / 110 / 140 (+ 7% of target's maximum health) (+ 50% AP)
Tips:You use Drunken Rage before you want to dash onto the enemy by using Body Slam. Drunken Rage has a channel time. That's why you should use it early enough. While channeling Drunken Rage you can't use any other spells. I often use Drunken Rage even though I don't fight someone because I want to activate Happy Hour to regenerate some HP.
ACTIVE: Gragas Dash charges forward, dealing magic damage to all nearby enemies upon colliding with one as well as Airborne icon knocking them back and Stun icon stunning them for 1 second.
Body Slam's cooldown is reduced by 3 seconds if Gragas collides with a unit.
MAGIC DAMAGE: 80 / 130 / 180 / 230 / 280 (+ 60% AP)
Tips:Body Slam harmonizes well with Flash. You can use flash while you are in the animation of Body Slam. The enemy has to react pretty fast to prevent getting hit by Body Slam if you combine Body Slam with Flash. You should remeber that you can go through walls. That's why Body Slam is a nice opportunity to escape.
Description:Active: ACTIVE: Gragas hurls a cask for 0.55 seconds to the target location exploding on impact, damaging all nearby enemies and Airborne icon knocking them back 900 units from the epicenter of the explosion, while also briefly granting Sight icon sight of the nearby surroundings.
MAGIC DAMAGE: 80 / 130 / 180 / 230 / 280 (+ 60% AP)
Tips:Explosive Cask is a very nice ability. You can use it in different ways. First you can try to throw someone into your team by throwing Explosive Cask in front of them. They can't really prevent this because you can CC them with Body Slam. While they are stunned you throw Explosive Cask.
Explosive Cask also deals a lot of damage. That's why you can use it as a finisher. If someone is low on hp and is running away you can throw Explosive Cask to secure the kill.
Another way of using Explosive Cask is disengaging. If the enemy team wants to engage you can reset the whole fight by using Explosive Cask. The enemy team will be thrown back.
At level 1 you skill up Drunken Rage. It has low cooldown and deal much damage. At level 2 you skill up Body Slam. Both of them deal AoE damage. Also you are able to reduce the resistances of the rift scuttler with Body Slam. That's why you take Body Slam at level 2. Another reason is that you can now set up for an early gank already with Body Slam At level 3 you skill up Barrel Roll. The first ability you max on Gragas is Barrel Roll. It deals the most damage and makes sure you will have the fastest clearing speed possible on Gragas. After that you max your Body Slam because the damage increase of Drunken Rage between level 1 and 5 is not as good as the increase of Body Slam. That's why you max your Drunken Rage in the end.
Blue Side Jungling:
In season 10 you will start your jungle path at Red Buff . You should try to kite the jungling monsters as good as you can to take a low amount of damage.
After clearing the first buff I move to my wolves and clear them. The Blue Buff on the topside is your next target. After that you are close to get level 3. Rift Scuttler spawn at 3:15 instead of 2:00 since patch 9.9. If you clear your jungle to fast you should clear Gromp before moving to [[Rift scuttler. Now you are level 3. In season 9 Rift scuttler s give a lot of gold and experience. You should make sure that the enemy Jungler won’t be able to kill you while trying to get the topside Rift scuttler .After killing the rift scuttler you reach level 3 if you didn't clear Gromp first. If the enemy Jungler already killed the Rift Scuttler you can move to the enemy Red Buff or clear Gromp if you didn't already. If I think my enemy will try to make a fullclear of his jungle his Red Buff might be still alive. You can move to the enemy Red Buff and invade the enemy and steal his Red Buff . Otherwise you should set up for a gank.
Red Side Jungling:
In season 9 I normally start at my Blue Buff . After killing your Blue Buff I move to the Gromp . Since 9.9 Rift Scuttler spawns at 3:15 indead of 2:00. That's why you can't move to Rift Scuttler at this point of the game. Now you should move to wolves and then Red Buff . After that contest the topside Rift scuttler or invade the enemy Blue Buff . If the Rift Scuttler is already gone and you don't want to invade just clear the Raptors and set up for a gank.
You should always proc Happy Hour while you move from a camp to another camp you can regenerate as much HP as possible. You will be able to stay longer in jungle and you will have more HP when fights will start.
Drakes are pretty important in Season 10. Play around drakes and try to get them.
|Walk up +||
While setting up a gank you should make sure that the enemy jungler is not able to countergank because Gragas ist very vulnerable to counterganks. To prevent getting counterganked you should set up enough vision to make sure you know the enemy junglers position.
You start your gank with using Drunken Rage. Because you can't attack or using other spells in the drink animation from Drunken Rage you should use it while moving up to the enemy. When you are in rage for Body Slam you should use it. The enemy you hit is knocked up. Now you should use Barrel Roll immediately because after he isn't in the air anymore his movement speed is reduced for a short period of time. That's why he is not able to run fast out of the Barrel Roll area. Barrel Roll 's damage will charge up and you should reactivate it when the enemy is close to leave the area from Barrel Roll. Between throwing Barrel Roll and reactivating Barrel Roll you should auto attack the enemy with the empowered auto attack from Drunken Rage you used in the beginning.

When you are already level 6 you can throw Explosive Cask to secuie the kill if the enemy survives and he is close to get away from you. Also you can try to throw Explosive Cask behind the enemy so he will be thrown back and he can't get under his own turret. Also your teammate on the lane is not able to close the gap in some situations. If you throw Explosive Cask behind the enemy he will be thrown straight in your laners face.
TIP: There is a nice mechanic in reference to Body Slam. While you are in the animation of Body Slam you are able to flash. That's why you can increase the range of Body Slam. In many cases the enemy can't react fast enough to predict your flash + Body Slam and won't be able to dodge it.
You can use your flash in every direction you want. That's why you can hit the enemy even if he flashs away or dodge it with a dash. You just need to react fast enough.
There isn't much to tell. Gragas wants to deal damage. That's why the AP jungle item is the best choice. Also you get cooldown reduction which is pretty good as well on Gragas. blue Smite is better choice than red smite because due to the slow of blue smite you are able to get to enemies even better. Also it deals damage for a fast burst.
Void Staff is a very nice item against a magic resistance stacking enemy team. It grants a lot of magic penetration and helps you dealing damage against tanks or magic resistance building enemies. Also it gives you a nice amount of ability power for more damage.
Perfect Item for Gragas. You gain HP, AP and magic penetration. Because you often try to engage a fight you need HP to survive. Also you want to deal damage against tanky and squishy targets. That's why Morellonomicon is a perfect item.
Zhonya's Hourglass is also a pretty good item for Gragas. It supports the playstyle of diving into the enemy backline, bursting a carry down or trying to throw them into your team with Explosive Cask. While you are in stasis your team is able to close the gap between them and you so the enemy team can not kill you easy after getting out of stasis. If you throw an enemy carry into your team they can kill the enemy carry while you are in stasis and can close the gap after. If you don't have zhonyas and you engage onto the enemy team you will end up dying in many cases.
Also Gragas is kiteable. That's why the armor you get from Zhonya's Hourglass will reduce incoming physical damage.
Gragas loves to burst down enemies and loves to deal tons of damage. His AP ratio scaling from his abilites are pretty good. Rabadon's Deathcap grants you a lot of extra ability power. Rabadon's Deathcap as 5th item (boots included) is a very good choice.
Basically there are 2 different playstyles in reference to teamfighting in my opinion.
The first playstyle is opening the fight and trying to throw an enemy into your team. In this case you want to start the fight by yourself. There are 2 oportunities to do this. You can flank the enemy team and engage out of the fog of war or you run straight in their direction and make use of the Body Slam + flash combo or of a speedbuff from champions like Lulu, Sivir, Zilean and so on....
You want to CC them with Body Slam and use Explosive Cask behind them to throw them straight into your team. You should not use this onto tanky champs if you are not sure if your team is able to kill the enemy fast enough. If you have enough time you can use your full combo Body Slam + Drunken Rage + Barrel Roll + Explosive Cask. In many cases an enemy ap or ad carry is already pretty low or dead because Gragas deals a lot of damage. If you don't have enough time for using your whole combo because the enemy is able to CC you you should use Explosive Cask immediately after Ccing the enemy with Body Slam.
The second playstyle is peeling for your carries. If the enemy frontline try to enegage onto your carries to shut them down as fast as possible you should CC the enemies and make sure they are not able to kill your carries. Your kit has a lot of CC. Your Explosive Cask knocks back, bodyslam knocks up and Barrel Roll slows. Also you are able to stop the enemy team from engaging because Explosive Cask can be used as a disengage duo to the knockback. This is helpful against many teamcompositions and champions.
In my opinion Gragas is a pretty nice champion and has nice potential. He has a lot of damage and is able to sustain in the jungle. His ganks are pretty strong and he has nice jungle clear time. With Predator you are able to move across the map very fast and you can respose to counter ganks. Your ability kit includes a lot of cc and AoE damage.
Thanks for reading. I hope it can help you understand how Gragas works.
I would love you to comment if the guide helps or not. Also check out my Elise and Jarvan IV guide!
I will add the chapters which are not completed yet as soon as possible.
