Cons
- Very, very squishy! D: - Pretty bad late game, turns into a buff for the team rather than a champion. - Is easily punishable for getting into poking range. - Failure to communicate with team. |
Synergy:8 - Twitch is a very underrated and powerful ad carry. With Sona he can do alot, for example you zone your enemies out with Hymn of Valor and he farms. Or Crescendo and let him Venom Cask out of Ambush. However they aren't the best at beating aggresive laners (kill lanes) such as Blitzcrank.
Threat level:10 - Kayle is a deadly ad carry/support to you. Her Reckoning and Righteous Fury deny your poking, and her Intervention protects her or her laning partner from certain death. The only way to hurt her is to Hymn of Valor from a non-warded bush.
Hymn of Valor: Hymn of Valor is Sona's main poking tool. This gives passive AD and AP to herself and nearby ally champions. It scales with AP,and it has a high base damage. It's such an amazing poke early-mid game. It can often zone opponents out. It's Power Chord deals double magic damage than the regular power chord.
Aria of Peserverance: Aria of Perseverance is Sona's sustain tool. It heals Sona and the most damaged nearby ally champion. It scales with AP. This gives passive Armor and Magic Resist to herself and nearby ally champions. It's Power Chord lowers the target's overall damage output by a percentage.
Song of Celerity: Song of Celerity is Sona's other support move. It gives bonus movement speed to herself and ally champions nearby (Both passive and active.) Use it mainly for escaping and chasing, have it as your stance when getting back to lane. It's Power Chord slows the target's movement speed by a percentage.
Crescendo: Crescendo is Sona's ultimate. It's an AoE Stun. Scales with AP. Sona plays a crescendo in a wave, stunning all enemies in it's path. It can be used for escaping, securing kills, and teamfights. It's a handy ult for a support. Too bad her ult is her stun.
These summoner spells are fairly common on supports, Exhaust peels atleast one opponent off you or your teammate, and Flash is probably the most useful summoner spell in the game.
If you feel Sona's Aria of Perseverance doesn't heal quite enough, you could take Heal.
Clairvoyance helps tremendously in keeping map control and awareness. You can use it on the enemy team's base at the start and look at their builds, you may also see which lanes the enemies chose to go.
Runes
Runes
- Greater Quintessence of Gold: I like to take this rune because as a support you won't be getting much farm unless your AD carry recalled. It also allows faster builds.
- Greater Mark of Magic Penetration: These runes are purely for poking in lane, they help against more tanky supports such as Leona.
- Greater Glyph of Magic Resist: I grab these runes because most supports deal magic damage,so this way you just laugh at their pokes.
- Greater Seal of Armor: These runes are vital, because in bot lane there's almost always an ad carry and a support, these runes protect you a little bit from the enemy ad carry.
- Greater Mark of Mana: This can help sustain you and your team mate in lane if you need the extra mana. Not much else to say,but it's viable if you need it.
- Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist: You can take these if you need more late game magic resist,it also helps a little bit in lane by taking less and less damage from the enemy support if they use AP abilities.
This build from your philosopher's stone and it's active offers really good utility for escaping and chasing. It also gives some nice stats for Sona.
These boots are probably the most beneficial boots for Sona. The extra magic resist defends against most supports' pokes and the tenacity helps for escaping other supports' CC aswell.
This item is the new meta for supports,it gives you free wards and a nice health bonus. It makes up for it's cost later on and it really saves time and money.
be giving them life steal and attack damage,it'll also assist any bruisers that went top lane.
I then buy Runic Bulwark for the all around added tankiness for your team, and as you may or may not already; Sona is a mainly aura support champion, and items like zeke's herald and Runic Bulwark add to her presence. So just being there is a buff for your team.
Finally,I finish up with a Frozen Heart. I buy this because of the cooldown reduction, extra health, and it's passive. It really helps in teamfights to block out the other AD Carry from dealing too much damage with their auto attacks.
Crescendo whenever it's availible. I want to max Hymn of Valor as soon as possible because by the time it's maxed, the laning phase will be ended or close to being ended. You then want to max Aria of Perseverance for the heals and defense buff. You should get Crescendo next because your ult should always be maxed third. And Song of Celerity last for obvious reasons.
Skill priority

with Hymn of Valor and it's Power Chord. Stay in the bush,as this tends to zone them out
when they're low hp. Be ready incase they actually punish you for getting into poke range,as this
really hinders you're ability to zone the enemies out.
You're mastery Pickpocket allows you to hit Power Chord and get extra gold for it.
And as a support you want to be less gold reliant, try to rely on your skillset alone if you aren't dominating lane. Yes you will be relying on Ionian Boots of Lucidity/ Mercury's Treads and Ruby Sightstone but those are fairly cheap anyway.
accordingly to situation: Hymn of Valor for aggresive play, Aria of Perseverance for defen-
sive play, and Song of Celerity for chasing/escaping/need extra speed for skillshot dodging-
I'm looking at you Ezreal.
as early game, but use Hymn of Valor as more of a zoning tool rather than a poke, why? Because it actually starts falling off in the middle of mid game (Haha I'm so lame :3.) And now you can use it to zone people out of their farm for even more outleveling
assuming you are outleveling them. Help out the other lanes and support them too,but don't stay
too long or else your lane will get destroyed.
In teamfights, position yourself behind your team, and in front of your AD Carry, provide
offensive ( Hymn of Valor) or defensive ( Aria of Perseverance) buffs for your team throughout the teamfight. Use Crescendo on bunched up groups of enemy champions to make them
DANCE :D!
