Not Updated For Current Season
This guide has not yet been updated for the current season. Please keep this in mind while reading. You can see the most recently updated guides on the browse guides page
Kayle is a HUGE threat to Riven, she has a ton of range poke and sustain, also using her R to deny her all in. Ban if their is a chance of one showing up, otherwise, focus on farm. Without ult, you can get good chunk damage off, and possibly a kill, you just need to close the gap.
Rengar
Rengar, though uncommon in lane, can be a frustrating opponent. He can use bush tactics to poke or chunk while denying your all-in with his E or W heal. If you catch him with his abilities on cooldown, the matchup should prove much easier.
Pantheon
Well, I mean it's Pantheon. He can get tons of damage off with his Q's, and he exceeds best at close range, making him a hard matchup. Jump on the opportunity to attack when he's low mana.
Jayce
Jayce has a ton of range poke and can easily out DPS you in a close range matchup. Dodge his skillshots and make sure you land your CC's.
Teemo
Well, I mean, it's Teemo. You're a melee champion, he's a ranged champion that does a sh*t load of damage. If you can lock him down, he can't escape.
Swain
Being that he's best at close range, he'll be a little tricky to lock down, but once you do, he should be easy prey. Well, not accounting for the fact that it is Swain, so of course it will be a pain in the a**.
Wukong
Wukong exceeds at close range matchups, luckily, so do you. Your abilities are AOE, so finding the invisible him shouldn't be that hard. Just CC him when he tries to all in, making the matchup pretty easy.
Garen
Garen may appear as an easy matchup, but he is the opposite. Garen can easily lock you down with his Q silence, he can chase you with his Q and E, while negating a lot of your damage with his W, not to mention he can win close matchups with his R. If he starts building lethality, be scared, because it does absurd amounts of damage. Play safe until you see an opening for a GUARANTEED kill.
Cho'Gath
Cho'Gath can silence you with his W, CC you with his Q, and win a close matchup with his R, but that's all he really has going for him. Your CC makes for an easy all in, his only actual advantages are his range and his tankiness.
Yasuo
Yasuo, being Yasuo, is going to be pretty hard to lock down, and pretty hard to chunk out due to his passive shield. Use your Q and E dashes to avoid his 3rd Q's, and use your CC to lock him down, making him an easy target. Also, be careful about your Windslash and his Wind Wall.
Being that you are reading this guide, you are probably already good at Riven, or like Me, a Riven in training. Riven is one of the champions in league of legends that are very hard to master, but doing so is beyond worth it. Riven is a highly mobile assassin, being able to chase, lockdown with CC, and kill an opponent with chunk damage. A good Riven is a force to be reckoned with, and what I hope I, and you for reading this guide, will become.
Runes
Runes
These Riven runes are built for a highly mobile assassin, which Riven is. Electrocute gives great chunk damage in all-ins. Sudden Impact grants you bonus lethality when, and after using your Q or E. Eyeball Collection rewards you for kill participation. Ravenous Hunter rewards kills with bonus lifesteal. Transcendence gives you bonus CDR and makes it okay to go over the CDR cap. and finally Gathering Storm gives you great late-game scaling.
Items
