good cc and mobility but pitiful damage without being fed. Her damage levels are similar to your own which on a burst mage just feels wrong. Unless she's cracked you shouldn't lose lane.
Shroud is annoying but honestly the matchup is fine. You likely aren't going to solo kill her unless she messes up but that's fine, sit and scale.
skill matchup similar to azir but importantly if you stun her her ult cancels which is the only reason this matchup is even roughly. She also has more cc than the other control mages of her type making it hard to walk up. Hard but winnable on two incredibly skill expressive champions.
Her stun and burst are potent but her wave clear is expensive in mana. Don't walk up post 6 unless you want to eat a whole bear and one shot.
Literally the same thing as azir
Skill matchup. See ori. Neither of you can shove the other under because you have two of the best clear speeds in the game. It's just a mess of a matchup and one of my favorite skill matchups in the whole game.
q poke is insane and ulti allows her of abuse your lack of mobility. Give up the lane and get what farm you can while looking for roams.
This is honestly a bit of a personal thing. This champ is infuriating with passive ms crazy burst good wave clear and a get out of jail free w, passive, ult, and e. While you can shove into him and he can't farm very well under tower without mana his kill threat and easy roams make up for this and make the lane hard to win.
I see even matchups as a case of you can't lose it unless there's major outside input, they know tf or fizz better than you know tf. Yes he can kill you but locking tf is basically saying that you know you're the better player. If you're wrong and don't have good roams or don't have good enough positioning you're already done in champ select.
This matchup boils down to this. His ult can follow you but is lower range which is exploitable. Since you can lock your card in any form of cc as long as you press w before his taunt you can interrupt his combo with a stun. In this matchup you want to sit back, farm, and outscale. While his setups with a jungle are potent if you get solo killed in lane and he isn't crazy fed beforehand you made a major positioning error.
Ad champs tend to fare better due to his lower armor. Her high burst and cc make this matchup one I dread. Take boneplating, get an early seekers, and pray.
One of the few lanes tf actually counters. Stun her ult and combo after the stun hits. A good kat will jump back at the last second to try and dodge your wildcards off a stun.
skill matchup. This will test your knowledge of enemy cds mana costs and range. If you're able to avoid tanking qs without allowing yourself to be in range and able to kite out of his r range then you will find yourself against a champ that can't shove well, has mana problems, has no hard cc and can't begin to answer your roams. Play with your team and end early or he will scale and 1 v 9 if he's good.
very high kill threat and insane mobility. They have to be a good lb to win this lane but unless you're a full rank worth of skill above them you can't win this one in lane if they're good.
Skill matchup, pay attention to the silence range get a qss so you don't get caught out with ult and always auto or q to pop his passive before you lock card and try to stun trade. Elec recommended.
Skill matchup, see Xerath. Harder than other artillery mages due to long auto range good auto damage and passive but knowing her range will be plenty to let you survive lane.
control mage skill matchup, how you play depends heavily on the ori game plan so be on your toes.
skill matchup. Dodge her stuff and try to kill her early with ganks.
This matchup is so volitile I honestly don't think it has a winner. It's so team and game dependant with both of you wanting to do a similar thing that the set threat level means nothing. This is also true for most other mids I left out suck as lissandra and corki.
The higher level you get the easier this matchup becomes. If you're decent and just want to survive start cloth armor rush seekers t 2 boots before mythic and shove into him without entering his q range and not getting lower enough to allow for flash q w ignite to kill. If you do this you outscale hard and have to pray your team listens to your missing pings.
It's not quite a skill matchup as Veiger has the edge due to being able to force our flash with cage on ganks but other than that it's a skill matchup that tests your knowledge of the enemy champ.
Skill matchup. See xerath.
skill matchup. It's complicated but basically watch for his w and try to trade when his cooldowns aren't up.
Pool, it's a winnable matchup due to vlads bar above his head telling you when he's gonna try and suck you again but he scales crazy hard and unless you burn pool before a gank he's very hard to actually cc. A good one can solo lose you the game.
skill matchup. Play some zoe or at least watch some good Zoes, if you know her champ and what she's going to go for you can safely shove and farm in an easy breezy lane till 6.
Strong poke mage, see xerath. Particularly annoying due to his nuking of towers so you need to be able to dodge his spells and run him out of mana before you have to back.
See yas, issue here is the cleanse for stun isn't on w it's on his e recast. Further, his ult is unstoppable completely eating your stun. His e ms and mobility plus bonus damage and scaling make him my personal perma ban
Windwall and e, you have to position completely differently than any other mid because of these and need to bait windwall as windwalling stun on reaction is easy. Difficult but in my opinion not that bad once you learn the matchup. viable ban especially for newer players.
Skill matchup. Don't be afraid to get early boots or even start boots in this matchup. Hug the wave when he tries to hit you to get him to shove if he's oom. Or never stand in the wave and force him to choose to either be shoved under or not hit you with skill shots for his mana. Respect the ult but you build movespeed so your positioning should be good enough to not get hit.
You have terrible base armor and he can ult your stun card. You can outplay but never underestimate him. A viable ban
I hate this matchup. Miasma slow, her ult negating your stun and chunking you if timed right, her q and passive ms, and her sustain make this a pain. Luckily it's an uncommon matchup but it's always frustrating how much you have to give to the hyper scaling snake to survive in lane.
Champion Build Guide
When I hit m 7 I went on a quest to run very keystone on him and make it work. I have done so and can safely say that aery hail of blades, and glacial augment were the only ones I didn't think had some validity. He's a champion you can do whatever you would like with and can more often than not make it work.
Impoartanly he is not your ticket out of bronze, or silver, or iron. If you get good enough he will be just because you'll be the best player in all your games but where he really shines is as a ticket to plat, or dia, or above. There's a reason the best solo q player in the world is a tf main.
Past DOPA faker also says that every mid lane player should play TF in order to learn how to properly play their wave and play the map with ult.
The power it has only increases as you and your teams get better. Global vision is ****ing nuts, anything any champ in the game can see you can see. This invalidates camo and invis allowing you to for example ruin a kha zix's day when they want to go in with ult. If you're thinking you might get collapsed, ult and you can see from where and can ult out.
The obvious use everyone knows is ulting in to stun a target and while don't get me wrong for a second a potentially free kill against someone who had full vision control by showing up right behind them with a two second stun is nuts.
But the fact that the start and end points aren't globally visible (if you ult into a bush they don't know you're there unless it's warded) allow for some crazy ****. The backdoor potential has won me plenty of games but the crowing bit of bs that reeeeally pushes it over the line.
It's not cancelled by damage so you can sometimes ult out of a combo and also its channel time is shorter than your gold card stun. Assuming no tenacity at level 13 twisted fate can be ghost flashed on by a darius, tf casts ult then stuns and channels out. There is no couterplay to this unless you have qss or tenacity. It's just crazy and when you are using it as most picture (ulting to gank a sidelane) and lock a card, if you attack move spam on top of the enemy champ as your ult goes the throw can not be stopped with a stun no matter what. If they say frame one darius pull you, yes you will be pulled but the darius will also be stunned.
It's crazy but just remember its mana cost so you don't ult into a team fight and oom yourself out of a stun card.
IMPORTANT: red card aoe is far far bigger than 90% of players expect. Even in diamond players are often surprised by how huge it really is. If you're trying to shove the wave throw it near the enemy champ and just see how big the aoe is. If they get slowed they also got hit meaning you got free poke if you were trying to card the wave anyway. Especially at higher levels of W this slow is enough to confirm wild cards against immobile champions.
As everyone knows twisted fate w is his bread and butter. You max q for damage and wave power and w second for longer stuns, higher damage, more mana, and longer slows. When people don't understand why tf scales so well the best way to explain it is with w. Late game you have a one button point and click ability that stuns for 2 seconds, from rapid fire cannon has more range than most skill shots, and is on a roughly 4 second cooldown. Mine you this is nor a root, it's a stun. If you think that a leona q is a death sentence in a team fight, imagine much higher damage a lower cooldown since his build gets more cdr, a burst from his q, and oh by the way this ****er can just show up behind you with ult to make sure you die.
At the end of the day it's a game to play and have fun with right? If you aren't enjoying it you might want to switch to doing something else.
Oh and one small thing to all tf players. Remember, you are nothing without a team and your mini map. Your waves are under your control and once you get good you can smother out entire teams if you're the best player in the lobby, you won't win every game but in every game you will have agency. Hope luck is smiling and best of luck in your games.
