Hi NicknameMy,

Thank you for your input, like all else who has given their input I have given you +Rep.

I'm actually still constantly experimenting with AP Garen myself, and I agree with you 100% on changing this guide's marks and quints to magic penetration. As for changing the magic resist glyphs to cdr glyphs, I am a little hesitant just because Garen excels so well as a tank, and I have some armor in the current build but no MR items. I will definitely give the CDR glyphs a try though as I can see your logic.

To be honest, I was highly hesitant myself with Nashor`s Tooth in AP Garen`s build. I rarely ever build it when I do well with AP Garen XD. I agree in that Lich Bane is probably a superior substitute for it.

Thank again for your input! :)

I would say Lich Bane makes more use than Nashor's Tooth out of your AP, as it procs nicely on your Decisive Strike. You also gain bonus MS and we all know Garen loves MS.

So, for a full AP build, go:

Sorcerer's Shoes, Rylai's Crystal Scepter, Liandry's Torment, Void Staff, Deathfire Grasp, Lich Bane.

Try out CDR Glyphs, they are very strong. The scaling runes give you 15%. This together with Deathfire Grasp and Sorcery lead to 30%. And with Elixir of Brilliance you have 40%.

I would also get both Greater Quintessence of Magic Penetration and Greater Mark of Magic Penetration as your whole damage is gonna be magic.

Thank you tasteslikepuddin and maxiumilian for your input!

To tasteslikepuddin, thank you for your support :) Yeah, it's kind of surprising that Garen's E deals physical damage yet procs the effects of Rylais and Liandrys.

To Maxiumilian, thank you for your input :) I've tried all those items on Garen before except Rabaddon's. The only case Rabaddon's would hold any use for Garen is if you buy Nashor's tooth to deal increased magic damage per hit. I'd just like to inform you though that the magic pen from sorcerer's and liandry's combined with deathfire's grasp makes Garen's ult really scary when you activate DFG's active right beforehand :P

I think it would be better if ap garen was full ap and magic pen like sorceress boots, nashors tooth, dfg, rabadon, rylai, liandrys :P

This guide smells of Trundle and I absolutely love it! I didn't know rylais could be proc'ed by Garen E. I would like to see a more conclusive picture though of this in action.

For a slow, go Frozen Mallet, your skills scale with AD, not one with AP. So with rylai's you throw away the entire 80 Ability power. Stack MPen!

My pleasure, good luck :)

Interesting, I like your thinking, always meant to try Void Staff on AP Garen. I think it's important for me to note Void Staff in the build if the enemies build heavy magic resist.

The reason I like Rylai's so much on Garen though is that it adds a decent amount of health, some cc, and doubles the burning effect of Liandry's which can be used on every E which has a much faster cooldown than his ult where void staff would only apply to his ult.

There's definitely some optimization I still have to experiment with this build though, and I'll definitely use Void Staff as a contender :P Thanks again for your insight mate!

Thanks Foxy for the input!

I found your advice quite useful and have given you rep. I kinda rushed the ability section and didn't notice those mistakes you pointed out XD. I'll also definitely try out those penetration marks to see how well they work out with this build. I also took your advice in cancelling out Deathfire's and Twin Shadows in favour of Locket and Sunfire's.

Thanks for keeping an open mind and listening to advice (and the +rep^^):)

I'd get a Void Staff over Rylai's Crystal Scepter though. If you want sticking power you can always get a Randuin's Omen or Frozen Mallet, because as stated before, you can't use the ability power part of your items.

Foxy

Edit: Another thing to emphasize is CoolDown Reduction. The more CDR, the more ults you can land.

Edit2: You might consider building Deathfire Grasp -> CDR + Massive nuke

Garen does not scale with AP and therefore this guide is unuseful.

His only magic damage ( Demacian Justice) scales with the enemy's missing health. Therefore he can only build magic penetration to get the maximum potential of damage.

I would suggest only building Magic Penetration and lose all the other stuff, transitioning into a standard tank build. ( Enchanted Armor is only viable with a lot of armor, so it would become viable. If you don't change your build, try Recovery instead (which synergyzes with Perseverance).)

Bronze Elo is no real proof of a working build, just like normal games. I am positive this is not viable in Silver and above unless you're being carried.

This being said, I feel there's still a lot of work needed to make a visually pleasing guide. Read this in order to make it more appealing.

If you want to focus on your ultimate's magic damage, you should consider Greater Mark of Magic Penetration & greater mark of hybrid penetration. (Marks specialise in offense)

Another remark is that, since you only use your ultimate for real damage, you should level it up at 6, 11 & 16.
NOT 6, 12 & 18.

- Max a skill by level 9.
- You have 6 points in Judgment and 4 in Courage. You can only go as far as 5.

This is a guide for having fun and troll with your friends in normal games. You can't teach newer players to build these unviable items. I feel you should mention this in the introduction.

Kind regards,

Foxy
